Sorry if this copy and pastes weird.

John Paul Stevens, the 97-year-old retired Supreme Court justice, is calling for the repeal of the Second Amendment and is encouraging anti-gun protesters to do the same.

Stevens, once the leader of the court's liberals, said the “schoolchildren and their supporters” who have been demonstrating against school shootings should “seek more effective and more lasting reform.”

“They should demand a repeal of the Second Amendment,” Stevens wrote in an op-ed for the New York Times on Tuesday.

Stevens argued that the amendment – which states that “a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” – is a “relic of the 18th century.”

Repealing the Second Amendment, he argued, is the most effective way to stop school shootings. Stevens retired from the court in 2010.

“That simple but dramatic action would move Saturday’s marchers closer to their objective than any other possible reform,” Stevens said. “It would eliminate the only legal rule that protects sellers of firearms in the United States — unlike every other market in the world.”

Why do they tell us they don't want to ban all guns yet continue to say repeal the 2A? Glad this guy is retired, and possibly senile. How many armed guards did this guy have surround him for much of his life? Guarantee he wouldn't have told them to get lost.

The left will be using this big time, since he a Republican. Hes a progressive, but they will forget that part.

Just in case somebody wants to read up on him. They already edited the page to include the editorial at the bottom in the 2nd amendment section.

Stevens wrote the primary dissenting opinion in District of Columbia v. Heller 554 U.S. 570 (2008)

Stevens stated that the court's judgment was "a strained and unpersuasive reading" which overturned longstanding precedent, and that the court had "bestowed a dramatic upheaval in the law"

They can't stop white powder from being unlawfully imported,

Repeal the 2nd and criminals will get better access to true machine guns.

Feeding frenzy will be the result of their wet dreams.

THEN they will have REASON to fear.

Surprisingly enough Steve Chapman from the Chicago Tribune says it would be pointless.

Hes wrong on both substantive and political grounds. Pursuing this option would be a foolish waste of the energies generated by outrage at the Parkland shootings.

In the first place, its politically impossible. A constitutional amendment requires ratification by 38 states. Donald Trump carried 30. To repeal the Second Amendment, youd have to get every state that voted for Hillary Clinton, plus 18 that didnt, to agree. For the foreseeable future, that has zero chance of happening.

The second defect is any such effort would inflame the worst fears of gun owners and those sympathetic to gun rights. Many of them agree on the need for more regulation or could be persuaded. Once the debate is about scrapping a constitutional right, though, many will assume that any seemingly reasonable new regulation is just a step toward total confiscation.

Further proof of the adage "there's no fool like an old fool".

Watching this stooge Stevens, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg at 85, it is pretty hard to argue against either a mandatory retirement age for justices, or euthanasia in the alternative.

Let's just go all out and repeal the 13th while we're at it. Sell our kids to the state, make sure they can never read, whip them when they act out, and keep em in chains when they aren't working for the state's cause. 100% would eliminate all school shootings!

It would do JPS some good to read Federalist 45 and 46, however, in his senility and desire to affect a political end I doubt it would make much difference.

Kinda like they want to do with gun purchases? No thanks. I'll take the senile comments from someone irrelevant instead.

At least this new headline will get the focus off Stormy Daniels for about 15 minutes!! I can't take much more!!! ( That's what's she said....LOL)

I hope the left wing media takes his ball and runs with it like crazy. Hopefully they'll run too fast and learn all about the slippery slope --- the hard way.

Stormy has always been in it for the money. She has plenty of Democrats who think she is the greatest thing since Hillary. I haven’t heard about her sleeping with Bill but then a don’t think he slept with Hillary either. I never heard of her before and now we all have. Now back to the second amendment discussion.

Never in the history of the US Constitution has an amendment been removed in order to take away someone's rights.

We've added or clarified rights by adding amendments.
One time we f'd up as a country and struck down Demon Alcohol by adding an amendment, and that's the only one ever repealed, repealed in order to increase rights.

We couldn't pass the ERA. Repeal the 2nd? Not gonna happen.

Maybe Lee Goodman is giving him a kickback on sales of his book.

I actually hope the left takes up the repeal the 2nd battle cry in campaigning. PLEASE

It would certainly silence all the rabid anti-gun zealots who start every argument with “I respect the Second Amendment BUT.....”.

Let their true intentions be known, confiscation, and try to pass the repeal.

It would galvanize not only true believers in the Constitution but the fence sitters too.

A repeal attempt gain our side more support. Even The Tribune’s Steve Chapman believes that.

You're way too optimistic.

The LWW's will never shut up about this. They'll keep talking smack about human rights they hate.

And I'm doubting too many fence sitters will be galvanized nor any current non-active people. The propaganda is too strong.

Your first paragraph is my go to when tlking of thr 2nd. I straight out tell them, if you have to use the word "but" I don't even want to hear it.

You cannot state support of the 2nd and use the word but at the same time.
