mauserme Posted February 11, 2019 at 01:19 AM Share Posted February 11, 2019 at 01:19 AM Stand and Fight! They are not going away. They are not giving up. Neither can we! Anti-gun forces are again coming together to create laws designed to end our rights in Illinois. Bill after bill is being moved in committee. More bills are being filed. Gun shops are closing their doors – forever. Now anti-gun groups are being invited to Springfield by the anti-rights coalition in the Legislature, and those mothers are after our guns. This week's alert includes bills we've seen already, plus many more. HB174 Lost & Stolen Firearms – Penalty enhances penalties for failing to report a lost or stolen firearm while exempting those illegally in possession of firearms. HB888 FOID Social Media Accounts represents an egregious violation of our rights to speak freely and to our privacy, all in the name of creating a chilling effect on our right to bear arms. HB892 UUW Firearm Detection duplicates existing Federal Law in some ways, but goes beyond Federal Law to outlaw even plastic parts necessary to the function of a firearm without being a firearm themselves. HB899 Firearm Owners ID – Revoke mandates FOID revocation if firearms are reported stolen too often as required under existing law (720 ILCS 5/24-4.1). This bill, combined with HB174 above, creates a Catch 22 for gun owners in which theft victims may lose their rights under one law or another, with no option to retain rights through compliance with the law. We ask your help in opposing these four bills. Among the bills we support are: HB240 Hunting – Carrying Handguns allows concealed carry licensees to carry a handgun while hunting. This common sense bill does not change handgun hunting rules, it simply avoids the need to leave the carry gun in a car while hunting. HB274 Conceal Carry – Business License seeks to protect the licenses of businesses who would welcome concealed carry on their premises, but who fear losing their livelihood through the coercive municipal practice of license denial. HB364 Concealed Carry – Expiration is another common sense measure requiring ISP to renew carry licenses for a 5 year period beginning upon expiration of the current license instead of from the date of issuance. We feel it is simply wrong to cheat licensees out of the full term of their license. HB885 Concealed Carry Nonresident Military, an IllinoisCarry initiative allowing military stationed in Illinois and residing here to apply for a concealed carry license, as any other Illinois resident currently can.How can you help? JTHunter Posted February 11, 2019 at 02:41 AM Share Posted February 11, 2019 at 02:41 AM Done on all eight. That "detection" one (HB892) is incredible. One of the most popular guns used by police is the Glock series. This would ban Glocks (among others).

Just some guy Posted February 11, 2019 at 03:09 AM Share Posted February 11, 2019 at 03:09 AM If these bills don't get called, the slip count resets. I guess we'll have to do this every time they are on the agenda. Could this be a "wearing us down" tactic?

I guess we'll have to do this every time they are on the agenda. Could this be a "wearing us down" tactic?yes, thats the way the system works...new committee hearing, new slips. I dont know that it's tactics vs just inefficiency and a little bit of Madigan bill scheduling shenanigans. The antis have to refile too. I think witness slip fatigue can be a real thing and figured thats why illinoiscarry does not always announce all of the bills up on a committee agenda on a given day if they do not consider high on priority list. mauserme Posted February 11, 2019 at 03:49 AM Author Share Posted February 11, 2019 at 03:49 AM Part of the difficulty in choosing bills to include is that they have to be scheduled in a parent committee before they can be referred to a subcommittee. I wouldn't be surprised if many of this week's bills are referred to a firearm subcommittee once it's formed, but we can't take the chance that we'd miss out on early opposition to a bill that could end up on the calendar for floor debate. This is especially true with the mothers in town and the possibility of a bill or two making it out of committee as an offering to their movement.
