Does anyone know what ammo Kyle Rittenhouse was using?

I'm guessing it wasn't ball ammo?

It almost took off that guy's arm off - "Gaige Grosskreutz, medic and 'Sole Survivor' of Kenosha Shootings"

I searched a little but couldn't find what ammo was used.

"They" already want to ban that, because Obama said it was armor-piercing.

If it comes out of the muzzle of a rifle chambered in .223 Rem or 5.56 NATO, then it is already something that the libs have tried to ban in the past.

Purple on >>>Plus it is a Black rifle so it MUST be bad.<<<purple off.

I don't know about it being "armor piercing " but it was certainly arm piercing.

If an FMJ didn't tumble, wouldn't it make a through-and-through hole ?  The top part of that guy's arm was blown off.  Its hard to believe hydro-static shock did that.

Could it have been helped along by muzzle blast?

When the prosecution direct questioned Ryan Balch (day 2 of the trial I believe), they had him explain what an FMJ was, even though he wasn't brought in as an expert witness. This implies to me that KR was carrying FMJ, but did not denote whether it was 55gr, 62gr or other.

Prosecution seemed to be going for the "overly dangerous ammo" argument because "FMJ can over penetrate vs JHP".

Kyle Rittenhouse confirmed on the stand that his rifle was loaded with FMJ.

Prosecutor Thomas Binger cross-examined Kyle Rittenhouse in court on Wednesday and suggested hollow point bullets are designed to "explode" inside an animal.

"Hollow point bullets are designed to hit the animal that they're being shot at, let's say a deer for example, and explode inside that body, correct?" Binger said.

Rittenhouse shook his head left to right and said, "No, I don't think so."

Judge Bruce Schroeder then interjected and asked Binger to clarify as to whether he meant "expand" or "explode."

...

Binger's emphasis on ammunition came after Rittenhouse had already confirmed that his AR-15 was loaded with full metal jacket (FMJ) bullets, rather than hollow points.

I'm sure he meant "explode," because he's confirming what his intended audience thinks.

Why is that hard to believe?

Through and through yes, but flesh and muscle don’t absorb the bullets kinetic energy very well so through and through can be pretty gnarly,  especially at 3000 fps

It's my understanding that if a bullet severs ligaments that the muscles they're connected to will contract instantly like a roller shade. That violence of action may be what a made an otherwise comparitively minor wound seem so much worse in photos and video.

This is how ignorant some of our Illinois politicians are.  This is my US Reps reaction to the Rittenhouse verdict.

If you check out 223 ballistic gel test videos on YouTube, seeing the force of a standard FMJ coming out at 223 velocities ,the damage to that loser's arm wouldn't be all that surprising.

The CIP chamber pressure spec for 5.56 NATO is 62,000 psi so not only is that little piece of metal moving a good rate but also has a good jet of air behind it that close up. The rifle gas system is going to bleed off some of that but still a decent jet of air and still combusting propellant.
