POSTED! - NO CARRY Signs

I'm somewhat confused about this thread. What is to prevent any and all private establishments in your part of IL from posting these signs? Does that effectively prevent concealed carry for you? The media is constantly bashing gun owners and casting us in a negative light, so I can only foresee more of these signs going up everywhere.

Nothing prevents any business from posting signage except to understand the financial repercussions from doing so. Business people understand the bottom line. Politely give them a "No Guns, No cash" card and inform them that you can do no business with them as long as the signs remain. Also inform them that their business will be put on a app that other concealed carriers in their county can search and they will avoid their business as well.

A few thousand concealed carry folks in a county can make quite a hit to your bottom line, especially in the more rural counties.

Absolutely! Funny thing, though. The only penalties for NOT POSTING as required by law are for establishments getting >50% of their gross receipts from alcohol sales. There are no penalties for anyone else NOT POSTING as required.

But what is the penalty for carrying into one of the 23 prohibited places even if they neglected to post signage as required by law?

Anyone?

Anyone?

I believe I have the answer here for your question at least for hospitals. Probably have answers to a few questions once I find were is best to post this crap ton of paper work dropped on my desk here at the hospital.

If you carry here they state:

The Adventist policy is that any individual (including patients, visitors, vendors and staff) entering the Hospital Property with possession of a weapon will be informed that weapons are not permitted on Hospital Property, and will be asked to immediately:
  • leave the building, and secure the firearm in his or her vehicle, or take the firearm home, or
  • turn the weapon over to a person accompanying them, who then leaves the Hospital Property

  • What if the person refuses to remove the firearm?

  • Any Main Hospital Campus: If the individual refuses to comply, and you are on the main campus of a Hospital, immediately notify the Security Department staff who will notify the local police department and request assistance as needed.
  • Physician Office or Other Offsite Location: Local police will be called immediately and assistance will be requested if the patient does not leave the premises in a timely manner.

We are not required to provide non-emergency care to patients who refuse to comply with these requests.

Im going to go with this will apply to most of the 23 places.

I am glad to hear that your hospital has a sensible policy, Justin. However my question in my post was rhetorical. I would not rely on the last line of your post I have highlighted in red. As stated in the Firearms Concealed Carry Act, violating any of the prohibited areas listed in the FCCA is a Class B Misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to 180 days in jail and/or up to a $1500 fine. And that's just for the first offense.

I wish more businesses and other prohibited areas would develop a policy such as the one you shared above. But I certainly wouldn't count on it.

I recently went to Glenview, IL for work, was driving along and saw an E-Cig place, and needing some new vape juice, I stopped. I spent about $40.00 in the store and was talking to the manager about how much of the stuff I buy to support my "habit" :) On my way out, I noticed that the store is posted with the correct (anti CCW) sign. I went right back in and talked with the manager again, politely telling him that I was going to be receiving my CCW permit (hopefully) soon, and if he continued to display the sign then I would not feel the same about spending my money in his store next time. He seemed very interested, and said he would talk to the owner about it. If I had a NGNM card (havent bought any yet), I would have left it.

I think they are receptive to common sense, and if a few more of you use e-cig's and are in the neighborhood, it might be a good idea to stop by and check this place out as they have great flavors and products. While you're there, maybe mention the sign, and/or leave a card.

Tiger Direct

Computer and software vendor in Vernon Hills.

Spoke with manager, he stated it was a corporate policy, but then stated all stores but Illinois were told to remove their (non-ISP) signage up.

Explained training and background check procedures for here, he seemed impressed.

Got info for corporate, will contact them later today.

Best Ribs one block east of Sayre on 79th, Bedford Park is posted. I stopped in to have lunch when I saw the sign. Happen to have some no guns = no cash cards with me so I went in asked for the manager and told her that I was planning on having lunch but since they had posted the sign I would not eat there that day or any other until it come down and handed her the card. She read it and did not say anything but looked at me like I had a third eye so I turned and left. I was very polite but no response

If somewhere is "posted" or carrying is otherwise prohibited, what are the legal repercussions (to them) if a crime/violence happens there, after they took away MY right to protect myself/family? :excl:

they open themselves up to a lawsuit that would have the licensee victim arguing that they disarmed him/her, did not afford armed security or metal dectors as a means of protecting patrons and thus created the dangerous enviroment that led to such injuries or death by ensuring the robber was the only one armed

Continental Acura in Naperville is posted. Too bad. I bought my last 2 cars there. Other than prepaid service, I won't be back. Don't have any cards, but I'm sending an e-mail to management.

I saw that one just get added to "Posted!". One of my family members has bought 8 cars there; I'll have to see if he wouldn't mind calling them and letting them know what it'll do to business.

I added it from my iPad as I was sitting in their waiting room for my car to be serviced. I was surprised when I got there and saw the signs. Unfortunately I have prepaid servicing, so I'll use them to fulfill what I've already paid for.

Just curious if there is any documented suits of such? Or, rather, an actual win by the person bringing the suit? Big world, but I've never heard of any.

I saw 2 today that had signs saying no weapons but they weren't the legal signs. The "Just Tires" on Broadway just north of Lawrence "no weapons" sign had a revolver and none of the required language, and the Uptown Lounge around the corner had a sign on one window (not the door) with the proper circle/red slash around the Beretta but none of the required language, they had their own language instead. But I don't think they sell anything but alcohol there, weird.

The Bridgeview Bank branch across the street had a legal "no guns" sign however. First one I've seen on a bank.

Maybe that's their protest of the law. They "attempted" to comply and avoid fines, but any CCL holder will know it's not a statutory sign, so it doesn't carry the force of law.

I was out in Rockford for work yesterday. I was surprised to find a traffic control sign being changed to a no Beretta sign. If you look at the picture, the sign at the end of the lane with <--> was being covered over with a solid white background. Then, the 4x6 sign was being bolted in the middle of the sign. I was driving away from the sign when I realized what I had seen and didn't get a picture. However, it was very hard to see being so small on that big sign.

Forest Plaza (Simon Mall property so that explains it) between the Outback Steakhouse and Kohls.
