InterestedBystander Posted August 17, 2018 at 01:49 AM Posted August 17, 2018 at 01:49 AM Another from Kathleen Willis. I know it is only a resolution, but still... http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=1197&GAID=14&DocTypeID=HR&LegId=113153&SessionID=91&GA=100 Short Description: NO GUN SANCTUARY COUNTIES Synopsis As Introduced Condemns the Illinois counties that are attempting to label themselves as "gun sanctuaries", and recognizes it as an unconstitutional and shameless political stunt which undermines the rule of law and threatens the safety of all Illinois citizens. Actions Date Chamber Action8/15/2018 House Filed with the Clerk by Rep. Kathleen Willis ...and lets throw in some Trump bashing while at it: HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Gun violence is an epidemic in America and in3 Illinois, touching all parts of the State; and 4 WHEREAS, The legislative and executive branches of the5 State have lawfully regulated guns and gun trafficking; and 6 WHEREAS, The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the7 constitutionality of reasonable state gun violence prevention8 regulations; Conservative Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito9 stated in the McDonald decision that state "experimentation10 with reasonable firearms regulations will continue under the11 Second Amendment"; and 12 WHEREAS, President Trump's administration appears to be13 willfully ignoring the problem of gun violence in America, and14 at the same time, is attempting to coerce municipal police15 forces into diverting their resources towards harassing16 immigrant populations; some municipalities have lawfully17 opposed having their local law enforcement used for such18 purposes and have been dubbed "sanctuary cities"; and 19 WHEREAS, Some counties in Illinois have erroneously tried20 to liken the cause of a sanctuary city with opposition to gun21 violence prevention measures by declaring themselves "gun 1 sanctuary counties", thereby declaring their intention to2 refuse to enforce any gun safety measures lawfully passed by3 the State with which they disagree; and 4 WHEREAS, These counties are trying to use those lawful5 sanctuary cities as an excuse to unlawfully ignore important,6 democratically-implemented, state laws; and 7 WHEREAS, These so-called "gun sanctuary counties" are8 nothing more than scofflaw counties, usurping the judiciary and9 role of separation of powers in our government, while openly10 encouraging criminal behavior; therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE12 HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we13 condemn these scofflaw counties and declare their attempts to14 label themselves as "gun sanctuaries" as an unconstitutional15 and shameless political stunt which undermines the rule of law16 and threatens the safety of all Illinois citizens
Patriot Millennial Posted August 17, 2018 at 01:55 AM Posted August 17, 2018 at 01:55 AM You could flip "gun sanctuary" and "sanctuary City" in this bill and it would actually make sense... So close.
Windermere Posted August 17, 2018 at 02:12 AM Posted August 17, 2018 at 02:12 AM Big deal. Condemn doesn’t mean anything, but wagging their fingers at those counties.
VannDaddy Posted August 17, 2018 at 02:12 AM Posted August 17, 2018 at 02:12 AM It would be wonderful if a pol would swap this resolution to say the same about sanctuary cities, but alas, this is Illinois and even the decent pols are still horrible.
kevinmcc Posted August 17, 2018 at 02:22 AM Posted August 17, 2018 at 02:22 AM When you are already crapping on the 1st and 2nd amendments, might as well do the same to the 10th.
speedbump Posted August 17, 2018 at 04:17 AM Posted August 17, 2018 at 04:17 AM Being called a "scofflaw" by a northern Illinois politician. Mmmmmm k.
Lou Posted August 17, 2018 at 05:50 AM Posted August 17, 2018 at 05:50 AM How ironic that Willis should use the phrase PUBLICITY STUNT in her resolution. Anyone can file a bill or resolution. It would be interesting to see if if ever comes up for a vote who votes for it.

TRJ Posted August 17, 2018 at 10:02 AM Posted August 17, 2018 at 10:02 AM $Oh, I didn't realize sanctuary cities were about immigrants. I thought they were about illegally sheltering people from deportation who illegally entered our country, caused tax dollars to be used to educate and feed their children, and to willfully ignore democratically implemented federal laws pertaining to national security, public safety and the rights of this Country's citizens.$ My mistake. The sponsor lies in the general assembly to her own party members. How she thinks she has the moral standing to finger wag on this is an exercise in cognitive dissonance so gargantuan that it should be classified as a mental health condition.
Skolnick Posted August 17, 2018 at 11:27 AM Posted August 17, 2018 at 11:27 AM Condemn doesn’t mean anything, but wagging their fingers at those counties. The Devil's Dictionary -- the ultimate authority on the meaning of words -- defines: CONTEMPT, n. The feeling of a prudent man for an enemy who is too formidable safely to be opposed.

Rangerdeepv Posted August 17, 2018 at 01:10 PM Posted August 17, 2018 at 01:10 PM Sounds like the good representative knows what is best for all of us. Does this type of thing surprise anyone from a ding-a-ling like this?
rams_1_again Posted August 17, 2018 at 03:05 PM Posted August 17, 2018 at 03:05 PM I think this resolution should have high priority. Lets get these lawmakers on the record again before the upcoming election, could be a good motivator for our side come November!
Plinkermostly Posted August 17, 2018 at 04:08 PM Posted August 17, 2018 at 04:08 PM 'They' want to ignore 'shall not infringe' and then claim anything else is 'unconstitutional???' 'splain to me the logic can someone?
G214me Posted August 17, 2018 at 04:30 PM Posted August 17, 2018 at 04:30 PM Typical liberal Democrat wanting tyranny.
Chinto Posted August 17, 2018 at 04:32 PM Posted August 17, 2018 at 04:32 PM We should point out the long standing Chicago Wards and alderman that have for years been gang/gun sanctuaries for criminals to Ms. Willis so she can include them in her resolution. Why should only the law abiding counties be considered unconstitutional when supporting the 2nd Amendment?

tricolor Posted August 17, 2018 at 04:54 PM Posted August 17, 2018 at 04:54 PM Wow, this ignorant woman is something else (family forum and all...) She is like a gift that keeps on giving. I will sleep well tonight knowing that the sanctuary county thing has truly gotten under her skin!
Kaeghl Posted August 17, 2018 at 05:34 PM Posted August 17, 2018 at 05:34 PM Hey, she had to something to get her monthly check from Bloomberg. I forget, how much did he pay out to initially buy her, anyway?

soylentgreen Posted August 17, 2018 at 08:15 PM Posted August 17, 2018 at 08:15 PM I love this. You can almost feel the seething hatred coming through. I think we are getting under their skin. The left is being trolled so badly it's just great. They can't take a bit of their own medicine. They don't see the irony. They're humorless.
ChicagoRonin70 Posted August 17, 2018 at 09:02 PM Posted August 17, 2018 at 09:02 PM Wait, what? So, it's entirely acceptable for a city to refuse to cooperate with a Federal immigration and law enforcement request regarding a violation of federal law, but it's NOT acceptable for a county to pass a resolution not supporting a violation of a Constitutional right? What kind of idiotically epic hypocrisy is that?

I forget, how much did he pay out to initially buy her, anyway? $1.37 How long until she introduces a resolution that strongly condemns cities from adopting illegal alien sanctuary status?
ChicagoRonin70 Posted August 17, 2018 at 09:08 PM Posted August 17, 2018 at 09:08 PM I think a state legislator should file HB 1198 and just reverse the relevant wording to make a competing anti-sanctuary city bill. That would be amusing.
