Dear Sheriff Howard, and any other County Sheriff,

Will you be actively opposing, blocking, or interfering with the ISP if they try to enforce the law over your head?

That's the question I want answered.

How can the ISP enforce over their heads in their county. Illinois politicians are leading by example and continuously show people that laws and court rulings don't have to be obeyed and don't apply to them. They ignore the Constitution and Supreme Court rulings and their oath and people's rights and don't care about making more than 2 million people felons with the stroke of the pen just because they feel like it. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Here we go....the bond/relationship between local/county/state/federal law enforcement will be tested. Guess who's gonna win at this game?

I just wanna know who's gonna enforce this. State Troopers? National Guard? County? Who's coming to my door to kick it in? That's all I wanna know.

And if they do? Hope is not A Plan....I'll wait to see how this pans out but I have three choices. Move/Flee, Comply, or Resist. I can't move as I just retired and reasonably can't conceive of a place to run to. If I'm leaving my Home I'm leaving this country as I have better option if it means being disarmed...which I believe will open doors that cannot be closed.

So I comply or resist and I'm simply not certain I can comply with being disarmed as I sincerely believe that the only reason to disarm a free man is to enslave him and "have your way with him" without the possibility of resistance. And resisting means jail time or fines I cannot pay. So I seem to be well and truly screwed right now. Never cheated, lied, stole, or didn't pay my taxes. Married to the same woman for 42 years...never cheated. Nurtured all the people around me - ran a business for over 20 years. Taught martial arts and never have been arrested nor gone afoul of The Law. Voted at every turn. Helped everyone that I could.

And now with the stroke of a mighty pen I will be a felon. I never saw this coming I swear....this Republic is failed. I despair and simply have no words to describe my utter desolation at the fact that the great state of Illinois seeks to destroy The Constitution of the great Republic. That I have lived to see this sucks the very Life from my soul.

The democrats are practicing anarcho-politics to bring about a society collapse so they can bring in their new world order socialist utopia.

The thugs don't go to jail. The people who stand up to the thugs go to jail.  The illegals coming across the border don't have to obey the law.  You must obey the law.

That is anarcho-politics 101.

"It is likely no one will"

Cheers

Tim

I have a suspicion that it will be exactly the opposite,

they will figure out how to have a few splashy media centric "examples" that rake some prominent souls over the coals

"to encourage the others"

In a hearing

The Director of the ISP said they would not be in the business of kicking in doors

Willis then said, half off mic:  "can't you do just a few"...  referring to the Director of the ISP.

(it's on the hearing's video)

Quote

The French philosopher Voltaire, in his novel Candide (published in 1759), famously commented on this

with the one-line quip: il est bon de tuer de temps en temps un amiral pour encourager les autres —

'it is wise to kill an admiral from time to time to encourage the others'.

You seem quite sanguine about it.   That's too bad.  A pity really.  There really can be no question that prominent 2A advocates in this state may be singled out for aggressive treatment by the Illinois State Police.  Many citizens will be at risk and many won't even know it.

What I do depends on the consequences and who exactly is enforcing this blatant and disgusting breach of The Constitution. If they want this so bad, why have they not convened a Constitutional Convention and repealed the 2nd Amendment? To repeal the 2A is the only Way I can comply having taken oaths to protect and defend said Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Like my marriage vows, I do not take oaths lightly. If you want me to comply with a unconstitutional decree one needs to change the Constitution to make it legal. I'm not certain how to proceed when laws seek to supersede The Constitution of The US. I am sworn to defend it. What now?

Yeah... if I wanted to enforce this new law, sometime after the registration grace period ends in six months, I'd go for Bailey and all of the legislators who said in the hearings they would not comply. Todd, too. And anyone else who spoke out on a public forum. I don't think it would go very well... really bad optics. Much will happen in six months. Probably no raids or arrests.

In the meantime there is nothing we can do about it, except for what is already planned and has been planned for quite some time. So that's what we do. There is no reason to get everyone all riled up and angry. Enough of us are riled up already. And don't just disappear into complacency, either.

Stay calm. Support the cause as best you can and then do a bit more. Make your plan and be at peace with it. Don't do anything stupid!

I've been on a few police "raids" in my career. It ain't like the movies. Unless you are really, really stupid. And do you guys know how many cops, the supposed enforcers of this silly bit of legislation, have their own personal banned guns and mags for which they must also comply just like us? I don't, either but I bet it's a big old bunch of 'em.

"Keep your powder dry" comes to mind.

Cheers,

Tim

Do we know if there is a general LE carve-out in this?  Other legislation there has been blanket LE/Retired LE are exempt.  I usually examine their bills in detail but I have been too busy at work to do so with this one yet.  And honestly there was little point till the final text is signed anyway.  Yesterday it sounded like the senate was going to balk at registration.  Guess they fell in line at the end though.

From what I read LE active and retired with 10 years service are exempt. Obviously their duty weapons are exempt and I assume their personally owned firearms also. Not right they can protect their family but us regular folks are potential criminals that cannot be trusted with certain firearms.

It's cool, they'll come to our rescue eventually...after spending 10-15 minutes at the end of the street smoking and joking while they wait for everyone to arrive and get kitted out because officer safety.

No it is not.  A couple high capacity for their service weapon is all they get.  14th Amendment has now been cited by SCOTUS as applicable to the 2nd Amendment debate.  Carve for retired makes this law invalid just on that point alone.

What do we do now? The next step is the court battle. If we can get a TRO then maybe we can relax a bit. If we can't get a TRO then the clock starts on complying with the law. I was really concerned about the magazine portion of the law because I want to be able to defend myself if necessary and I didn't want to be holding ten rounds and the bad guys holding much more. Since the magazines have been grandfathered then that problem is diminished. It's still a violation of my rights and unconstitutional and needs to be fought in court. The registration requirements are the next step and the six month time to comply will give us time to make a plan individually. Should we comply, resist, sell the gun in question or just quietly go on about our business in a careful manner.  I have many close friends who own and cherish their AR style rifles. I expect most of them will just ignore the law since they consider it unconstitutional.

There is really no enforcement option available to the state. They can't get people to become LEOs now and it will be harder once they tell the applicant that part of their duty will be to enforce this gun ban. Don't carry more than 15 rounds in your pistol and don't advertise that you have a "banned gun". Wait to see how things play out in court and pick your poison, resist or comply.

It's your choice and only you can make it.  I went to the range today and celebrated my 2nd Amendment rights with a new "mousegun", a 22lr derringer. It was fun and 51 degrees in January!

I'm not a lawyer.  I don't even play one on TV.  That said, as I read it, the portion of the bill with the most harm (registration) has a deadline of Jan 1, 2024 before penalties attach and the carry of large capacity magazines has a 90 day window before it takes effect.

The main thing that has changed as of right now is that sales have come to a halt.  I suspect that the court cases will resolve things before the 90 days are up, let alone before Jan 1 next year.

Ding ding!   Equal Protection applies to the 2nd amendment.

You can sell magazines to people out of state right and is that for 90 days?
