Gun owners plan rally for start of fall legislative session to oppose fingerprinting measure

...Gun owners from around the state plan to remind Illinois lawmakers about their opposition to a measure that would require those seeking a Firearm Owners Identification card to submit fingerprints on the first day of the fall legislative session.

Lawmakers return to Springfield on Oct. 28 for the first three days of the veto session. State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson said he expects it to be a busy session with a lot of different issues coming up. The association will focus on Senate Bill 1966, a measure that would increase fees for Firearm Owner Identification cards.

Depending on where you are in the state, it drives up the cost between $200 to $300 for every five years so it becomes cost-prohibitive for the law-abiding firearm owner to do this, Pearson said.

The measure would also require FOID applicants to provide fingerprints at the applicant's expense.

Remember the Second Amendment is a fundamental right, Pearson said. Theres no other fundamental right that requires fingerprinting or anything even close.

Supporters of the measure have said fingerprinting is necessary to ensure people applying for a FOID card are allowed to have one. Sponsors of the measure said the fingerprinting mandate is needed to address loopholes in the system that led to a convicted felon from Mississippi getting a FOID card in Illinois, and buying a gun. That man killed five people at an Aurora warehouse in February even after his FOID card was revoked. State police revoked his FOID card after they discovered his felony conviction, which he had lied about on his initial application.

The bill has already passed the House. It is a Senate vote away from the governors desk.

Its down to the point where it just takes one vote in the Senate for this bill to become law and so we cant take a chance on not being there, Pearson said.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has said he supports requiring fingerprints for FOID applications.

"It helps, it really does, we've got to be able to identify those FOID cardholders," the governor said in September....

That statement by the gov is so pathetically stupid. You've got to be able to identify those NON-FOID cardholders. THEY are the criminals. OMG I'm glad to be outta there.

Yes, but graft and favors cannot be granted from the non-existent funds from non-existing FOID holders. Maybe he can fix his toiets from the skim of the law abiding FOID holders.F-Pritzker, F-Ilinois and Raoul and Willis and Munoz and....

What are the possibilities for filing a "class action" lawsuit against "Jabba" et al. if this boondoggle gets signed? Restrictions of a Constitutional right, excessive & inordinate "fees" (aka a "poll" tax), and I don't know what else.

It will pass. Consider it a gift of more future law suits and the dodging of a gun ban while jabba is governor. They would prefer a gun ban, this gives them a win and if it upsets poor people they don't care.

I prefer the term: "Removal from office for violating his Oath."

My latest round of personal information being compromised ( of at least 4 all by government entities) included my fingerprints. I was fingerprinted for a job which gave me access to all kinds of personal information including SSN information which is why I needed to be fingerprinted. It was a job requirement at the time. No longer work there and newer hires before I left did not have this requirement. What does this have to do with FOID? 1. Security of course 2. several government agencies already have my fingerprints for different work required security/background reasons so why does FOID need them too?

Don't they identify and background check the FOID cardholders every 24 hours?

Aren't poor people their constituents which they say they care about?

I was fingerprinted when I joined the Army do they not do that anymore ?

Because we as gun owners have become complacent with 'compromise' this has allowed them to infringe upon the right at every turn to limit the right and they will keep infringing until the right is gone one piece at a time, that is their goal. Barrier after barrier, prohibition after prohibition, fees and more fees, it's them chipping away at the right.
