mauserme Posted April 30, 2017 at 11:58 PM Posted April 30, 2017 at 11:58 PM . Legislative Update The Illinois Legislature ended last week with a third reading deadline, the date by which most bills must have moved over to the other body - House to Senate and Senate to House - in order to still be in play. There are exceptions, and SB1524 Concealed Carry Military is among those bills with an extended deadline. Please continue calls to your State Senators showing your support for this bill. One bill that did move from Senate to House before the deadline is SB1657 Gun Dealer Licensing. Despite our best efforts, this bill took another step in the process of becoming law. But it isn't law yet. There's still time to stop it, and stop it we must! The Illinois Firearms Manufacturers Association, representing Springfield Armory and Rock River Arms, seems to have negotiated a carve out to exempt manufacturers from licensing under this bill, resulting in the association changing their opposition to a neutral stance. This change very possibly gave the sponsor the number of votes needed to pass the bill. Our efforts against SB1657 must be unified and we urge Springfield Armory and Rock River Arms to stand with us. We ask them to do the right thing and oppose this attack on their firearm dealers and the millions of customers who made them great. Direct, personal contact by the CEOs of Springfield Armory and Rock River Arms to each and every House Representative, correcting their position to oppose, would be a great help to all. Call the CEOs of these two manufacturers and ask them to stand with Illinois gun shops and gun owners. Ask them to do everything within their power to show all state legislators they stand united with us now and in the future. Rock River Arms: 309-792-5780 or 866-980-7625 Springfield Armory: 309-944-5631 or 800-680-6866 Beginning tomorrow please also start calling your State House Representatives in their district offices, letting them know you oppose gun dealer licensing regardless of who has been carved out and who hasn't. Contact information can be found here. You can count on IllinoisCarry to call for witness slips if and when that time comes. Please stand ready to file in defense of your rights at a moment's notice. ###
InterestedBystander Posted May 1, 2017 at 12:50 AM Posted May 1, 2017 at 12:50 AM It is 30 in the Senate, but what is the minimum number of House votes needed for a bill to pass?
mauserme Posted May 1, 2017 at 12:51 AM Author Posted May 1, 2017 at 12:51 AM This bill would take 60 if voted on prior to 6/1.
kurt555gs Posted May 1, 2017 at 12:55 AM Posted May 1, 2017 at 12:55 AM Good luck on SB1657. But I doubt SA and RR would have sold everyone in Illinois out if they thought it wasn't going to pass. They knew they would take some social media heat for a while in Illinois but the rest of the country would just keep buying as usual. I'm sure their lobbyist explained their options and consequences carefully to them.
Scotty425 Posted May 1, 2017 at 01:07 AM Posted May 1, 2017 at 01:07 AM The key words in that sentence are "sold" and "out". This is all over the place, people aren't going to forget any time soon

I think he impact will be significant because I'm seeing it on a lot of national level social media groups and sites.

Evil Porkchop Posted May 1, 2017 at 05:17 PM Posted May 1, 2017 at 05:17 PM Called my rep. He's a downstate Dem, but is on our side with 2A issues. Spent about 5 min on the phone with his assistance talking her though some of the finer points of the SB 1657 such as the carve outs, regulations, buying limitations, and the economic impact this will have.

JDW Posted May 1, 2017 at 05:34 PM Posted May 1, 2017 at 05:34 PM Good afternoon, I called my state rep's office and had a nice conversation with one of his aides. She informed me that he is very Pro 2A and that he was on our side on this issue. That was a good start. My next call was to Governor Rauner's office. I spoke to a lady who said "Governor Rauner has not yet decided what he's going to do with SB1657" I urged her to please read my letter and pass it on the governor. I also explained that this bill will essentially put many small businesses in our struggling state out of business. And my final thought to her was that SB1657 would in no way, shape, or form, prevent criminals from getting their hands on firearms. She assured me that she would pass my message on. LOL, I was polite, but thinking, yeah, sure you will. I called Rock River Arms and they took my name and number and told me someone would call me back. I've also asked several youtube channels, the biggest down to the smaller ones to give us a hand in this battle. So far, two have done just that. Sadly the largest channels, have yet to respond. I am calling the NRA, and I've already written the NRA-ILA. I want to call Springfield Armory too. I'm quite sure they're getting slammed with calls today. I see Mr. David Lombardo has spread the word through Bearing Arms. Here's a link to his piece, if anyone would like to read it. https://bearingarms.com/david-l/2017/05/01/springfield-armory-and-rock-river-arms-sell-out-illinois-ffls/ We need to keep the pressure on, and I'm doing all I can from my little corner of Illinois.
DD123 Posted May 1, 2017 at 05:45 PM Posted May 1, 2017 at 05:45 PM Sent Rauner an email and called. My rep is Lily so I may as well talk to my wall. I'd have a far more intelligent conversation with latter.

Hawkeye Posted May 1, 2017 at 08:10 PM Posted May 1, 2017 at 08:10 PM Called my representative's local office. Was surprised that I only got an answering machine rather than an aide, but left a message asking (strongly) as a constituent that he oppose this bill. By the way, Mauserme, when I clicked your attached link ("Contact information can be found here") to double check on contact information, both the State Rep and State Senator it gave me were incorrect. Hope that isn't the case of everyone who utilizes it. I am not too far from the districts' borders, but it gave me the neighboring guys in each case... Thanks for all your efforts helping us fight this latest-in-a-series of bad legislation. I really appreciate all the work and time that goes into this!###
countyline Posted May 1, 2017 at 08:36 PM Posted May 1, 2017 at 08:36 PM Response from Jimenez: Thank you for contacting me regarding SB 1657. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know your thoughts on this legislation. As a supporter of the 2nd amendment, I am very hesitant to support new laws that restrict the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Thank you again for contacting me. Sincerely, Sara Wojcicki JimenezState Representative- 99th District Somewhat of a wishy-washy response, but it'll do.

DD123 Posted May 1, 2017 at 10:11 PM Posted May 1, 2017 at 10:11 PM Am I reading it correctly? It was assigned to rules committee? Is it possible for it to die a slow, awkward, painful death there?

TRJ Posted May 1, 2017 at 10:32 PM Posted May 1, 2017 at 10:32 PM Update For immediate release: May 1, 2017 Rock River Arms, Inc.® (RRA) wants to assure the Illinois (and national) firearms community that we are still 100 percent opposed to the Gun Dealer Licensing Act - SB1657, the house version of the same bill, and any potential final legislation that may come from those bills along with any other infringements on the gun rights of law-abiding citizens everywhere. For more than twenty years, Rock River Arms and Springfield Armory have actively opposed gun control legislation at the local, state, and federal levels. In 2009, we partnered with other manufacturers to form an organization geared towards representing our interests - The Illinois Firearms Manufacturers Association (IFMA). Historically, that organization has done well in representing us in Springfield, Illinois. We had no reason to believe that it was doing anything beyond representing the firearms community’s (Illinois firearms manufacturers, dealers and gun owners) best interests, keeping us well-informed on relevant legislation and issues, acting on our behalf. In the case of SB1657, there was a disconnect and that representation was misguided. While we do believe that IFMA acted in what it felt was the best interests of its members, we were as shocked as everyone else to find ourselves exempted from provisions of SB1657 and that IFMA was no longer opposing that bill, even though RRA still opposed it. Again, Rock River Arms wants to emphasize (regardless of anything that may have been said or done, mistakenly or otherwise, by any other party on our behalf) its continued total opposition to SB1657, the Illinois House version of the bill and any final legislation that may emerge. This includes any provisions found in Gun Dealer Licensing Act SB1657, along with any other threats that may infringe upon our gun rights. If you have any further questions or require more information about our position, please contact: Sarah Larson, General Manager or Steve Mayer, LE, Government, and International Sales Manager at 309-792-5780. Thank you. Chuck Larson President/Owner Rock River Arms, Inc.
