Patriots & Tyrants Posted February 20, 2018 at 02:53 AM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 02:53 AM They sucked before when they cancelled a holster than was 1/2 the price it should have been, after putting it on back order for a month. This is just next level retardation.
chicagoresident Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:00 AM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:00 AM I could of told you it was because of Cook even before looking but OpticsPlanet is located in Cook County, Illinois, where a 10-round magazine capacity limit is in full effect. Up until a week ago, OpticsPlanet used to sell up to 15-round magazines, because their warehouse is located outside of Cook County in an area that allows up to 15-round mags. However, Cook County recently informed them that they must cease this practice and, because their HQ is in Cook, they must abide by the 10-round cap no matter where their warehouse is. So you guys want to boycott a business that actually has a reason to try to legally fight the ban (which you know they will do). Never done business, so can't comment on other business practices. If they didnt have decent customer service that's a good reason to not do business. But being a gun business that gets screwed by Cook County shouldnt be a reason to hate them, they're on the same side. I honestly wondered how they got around Cook laws for a while. splash Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:16 AM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:16 AM I stop supporting Optics Planet after they refused to sell switchblade to civilians even after I sent them the new law legalizing ownership of switchblade in Illinois for FOID card holder. The manager told me over the phone that I could probably buy it off the street if that is what I wanted to do. So rude..
InterestedBystander Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:16 AM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:16 AM I would sure like to see a copy of that notice. Did Cook send out a mass notice and will we see more companies goibg down this route? Having said that, some people had no issues with OpticsPlanet but plenty of others had issues with the way they handled if they really had something in stock and their customer service. They are in Northbrook? I assume this is probably a HomeRule community so I wonder (havent looked) what their local municode has in terms of overriding County law

If they capitulate with 0 action then the heck with them. But if they fight it and get a favorable ruling this could be good for all of us living behind enemy lines. skrapyard Posted February 20, 2018 at 02:40 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 02:40 PM Optics planet has always been notorious for listing things in stock online, then emailing and telling you the product is on backorder after you place your order and they have your money. You would think in this day and age, with a company as large as theirs, that they would be able to have a website that was actually able to keep track of inventory on items worth 100s-1000s of dollars. Raw Power Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:12 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:12 PM They took 63 days to get me an order, and all I got was excuses from them the half-dozen or so times that I called. That was my first and last time ever doing business with them.

I hate to say it but they should find another state for their headquarters. Money seems to be the only thing Chicago politicians understand. Or at least move out of Cook County, preferably somewhere west of Rt. 47. DeKalb County would be my biased suggestion.
chicagoresident Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:47 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:47 PM It was pretty shortsighted to setup shop in Cook. They are spitting distance from the Lake/Cook county line.
Bitter Clinger Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:47 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 03:47 PM They're in Cook County? Now it all makes sense. They should probably pack up and leave the state if they're smart. I bought some shooting glasses and a couple scopes from them in the past and have had no issues. I got some pretty good deals on the scopes too.
cybermgk Posted February 20, 2018 at 04:22 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 04:22 PM They should move out of Cook County AND make sure Cook County knows why those tax dollars just left.
TRJ Posted February 20, 2018 at 04:23 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 04:23 PM I was done with them a long time ago over stocking issue/BO parts too.I really doubt they're going to fight. I think they just want to sell stuff they say is in stock but isn't.
chicagoresident Posted February 20, 2018 at 04:44 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 04:44 PM So are they pretty much just a drop ship company? Like when they said their "warehouse" isn't in Cook what they actually mean is none of their distributors are in Cook? They seem small compared to Brownells. tdiller Posted February 20, 2018 at 05:48 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 05:48 PM I had a job interview with their IT folks. They cancelled the first time and then there were a bunch of missed connections for reschedule. I finally had the phone interview and decided it was not a fit for me. Would have loved the employee rate on the products though.
Nanook Posted February 20, 2018 at 07:02 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 07:02 PM The only thing I've ordered from them is scopes. I had to state that I wasn't exporting the scopes, but that's probably a Fed thing. Other than that, no problems. I've had no issues with them. This thing is not good, but they're far from the only game online. It's easy to work around them.
Hatchet Posted February 20, 2018 at 07:20 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 07:20 PM This sounds kinda similar to being a cook resident and owning an AR outside of cook. How can they tell them what they can do and sell if the product never enters their kingdom? How ever cook county sheriffs do want that record of any cook resident selling a firearm even if it doesnt happen in cook county...
BigKahuna Posted February 20, 2018 at 11:51 PM Share Posted February 20, 2018 at 11:51 PM I have always wondered about the requirement to tell Cook County when a gun is being sold. Since Cabelas is considered a "resident" of Cook, do they tell the County if you buy a gun, what it is, S/N, etc. And what about FFls? Are they considered an owner before you pick it up.? Does the requirement apply to them too? Sounds like it could mean registration.
