The other 90%

Was just wondering where the other 90 plus percent of the CCL holders are?

And since several trainers frequent here, are we getting them to speak about joining ( for free ) the IC forums?

Is there a way to get say the e-mail addresses of those who have gotten a CCL?

Would the instructors still be in possession of their trainees e-mails?

It seems that we should have or been promoting the IC forums in search of having a larger/stronger supporting class!

Just like the voting on the LuckyGunner item posted elsewhere here.

The state is over 110,000 CCL's now and the IC forums are under 9,000........

Just thinking out loud about how to go about rounding up more members to let them share in and hand out their opinions about all things CCL!

Would be maybe easier if the instructors helped?

Not sayIng they aren't doing a bang up job training, just tossing it out there.

Thanks for Reading.

Two things I promote at every class:

IllinoisCarry

Xwing's App "CCW" for Android and apple.

However, I value my students' privacy and I will not spam their email, no matter how well intentioned.

No, No

No spamming e-mails

Not what I meant, but with the numbers and the positive info flowing from within these forums, CCL holders may be missing something they don't know about!

And with that said, sending one e-mail one time to either refresh or remind them about the great info and updates found here wouldn't be spam unless it was abused over and over.

But in no way would this board become a spam hole of the interweb!

I did not provide my e-mail on the class forms to be pestered with even a single e-mail not related to that class. I appreciate that my instructors keep it private.

I'd guess there's a lot of people who belong to Guns Save Life and other organizations. When I went to the Oak Park meeting, I asked a guy with an NRA shirt if he was on IC, and he looked at me like I was cross eyed. He'd never heard of the forum, and I don't know how he knew about the resolution being passed. So there are plenty of people on our side, bu they get their "news" elsewhere.

Then there are those who aren't online often, get their license, and go about their lives, not needing to do anything further.

We should encourage CCL instructors to mention IC.

Hear, hear! We should add an Avery business card template to the CLIC package to let instructors print cards with a link to IllinoisCarry.com.

Spam is considered email to promote or solicit something, sent to in bulk to many people either randomly or to a targeted demographic, that the recipient did not ask for or sign up for.

So while your intentions are good, sending out mass emails to CCL class members about Illinois carry would technically be SPAM. I know that if I was in that position and I started to get emails from my instructor about

a website I would be pretty p***** that he was using my info for that purpose.

The instructor I used sends me email updates that I signed off on. They just recently got an ffl, they have free work on your gun nights for former students. I honestly don't mind.

they have real world lives and could really give a rats rear about the interwebnet for the most part

Well, there are about 1.4 billion Facebook members and over 7 billion people with faces, so we're not the only group in this situation.

I don't teach classes, but I do recommend it to anyone, stranger or otherwise, who I have a 2a conversation with.

That happens a lot to. I'll go into someone's home who has a gun safe, recommend.

Have a conversation with a person who complains about the crime in their area, recommend.

Strangers at cabelas, recommend.

I'm guessing some people just aren't interested in forums.

My father in law is a big 2a guy. Illinois CCL, nra life member, Illinois rifle assoc., were members of the moose & gun club. He doesn't have Internet. He doesn't even own an Internet capable device.

I tell everyone I know who's a gun owner about the site.

I'll use my uncle as an example: my uncle has a gun collection that would make any one of us drool. He carries, reloads, etc. I've tried to get him to join this site but in his words: I don't have time to mess around on a website. He's retired and has nothing but time so I don't understand why he wouldn't want to join. I tell him that with his background and all that he's done in his life, he would be a great member (he was a fighter pilot, worked as an airlines pilot, etc.) He is active in making calls and stuff, but just doesn't get into forums or commenting on websites.

Some of my friends who are 2A supporters won't join either. Two of them are so horrible at replying to texts or even returning calls that for them in particular, I see why they wouldn't join. They'd post a thread to ask a question, and then forget that they even posted a thread....

One more point that I hate to make is that some people got their CCL and that was the end of the fight for them. I would put that percentage at 20-30%.

Some people are older and aren't very internet wise so they may not understand how to sign up, or how to post, quote, etc. My dad falls into this category. Just a few years ago he didn't know how to turn a computer on. "How the heck do you turn this thing on?". Uhhh, you press the power button? Lol. He's gotten better but I think a good number of people just don't have the patience to learn how to interact on a forum.
