Call to Acton - Oppose SB009 Revenue Various

(Tax on gun clubs, ranges, and hunting clubs)

Contact Your State Senators This Week!

In our first Call to Action of the newly seated 100th General Assembly, we bring to your attention SB009 Revenue Various.

SB009 started as a simple question of creating new taxes, a question too easily answered "yes" in this state. It is now more than that. Much more.

Senate Amendment 2 seeks to impose 5% membership and service taxes:

> In addition to the amusement tax on ranges already imposed by several municipalities

> In addition to the Cook County tax on firearms and ammunition

> In addition to the proposed fees covering the cost of serializing ammunition under HB271

> In addition to the already costly training and license fees required to carry a concealed firearm in Illinois

> In addition to the cost of hunting licenses

> In addition to current local, state and federal sales taxes on products associated with membership and use of hunting and gun clubs, training, and competition

These new taxes were not, of course, presented in a forthright way that would foster open debate. Instead, they were hidden in amendments to SB009 among a plethora of other taxes, filed quickly and quietly on a bill positioned to move through the Senate at a moment's notice.

We must recognize that the more the state taxes our ability to train, compete, and hunt the more it discourages the very practices that foster safe firearm ownership. The more it encourages people to purchase products and services elsewhere.

The truth will be SB009's greatest obstacle. Spread some truth, and spread our rights.

Beginning Monday, 1/30/2017, please contact your State Senators in their district offices. Politely explain that SB009 is no longer as it seems. Let them know that while we can debate the wisdom of burdening Illinois with additional taxes one thing is not debatable. The State does not have proper authority to tax our Second Amendment rights. Contact information for your State Senator can be found here.

Be on the lookout for additional Calls to Action on this bill, and others. After the November elections, anti-gun groups are starved for any appearance of victory. We must make sure Illinois does not become a notch in their belt.

If this thing passes in it current form I could see labor rates for repairs on automobiles, and other things needing repair going up $20-40/hr.

So besides imposing a tax on our 2A rights they also want a 5% tax on home repairs,amusements,landscaping,laundry/dry cleaning, storage facilites ,among others ,basically any service offered.

Then for the privilege of paying those new taxes they also want to raise the IL personal income tax rate from 3.75% to 4.99% (p.139) 8 years ahead of schedule.

And they want to impose a tax on IL businesses on a sliding scale as to their payroll. They even use the wording, from page 2 , "imposed upon each qualifying business for the privilege of doing business in the state." LOL

Hard to believe were not hearing more about this elsewhere. After this we should have streets lined with gold.

My Senator just texted me that he will vote no.

So, basically SB009 taxes an individual preparing to enjoy Constitutional right, that is, taking lessons to qualify for concealed carrying via the 2nd Amendment.

That smacks mightily of a poll tax, that is, taxing a person to enjoy the right to vote.

Didn't the Democrats and KKK use that to stop free'd blacks from voting in the South after the civil war?

Did I get that right?

Called my senator. His aide answers, and blanket states that he's not familiar with 009 ammendment 2. He said he's getting lots of calls about the beverage tax and to be assured that was off the table now...but I had to educate him on what was on the table. This doesn't inspire confidence because as a D, I suspect that he's just voting party line on this crud.

That's exactly why we needed to get ahead of this thing.

I had the same response. Waiting for a phone call back from the Senator.

Exactly! That is why Mauser brings these things to our attention. Just like we aren't aware of some bills/amendments our Senators or Represnetatives aren't aware. Most aren't aware of any bill or amendment unless it is theirs, until we point it out to them, or it is brought up in their Caucus or by another Representative or Senator wanting them to get on board. There have been more than a few times when I have discussed bills or amendments with my senator or representative that they weren't aware of and they thanked me for bringing it to their attention. They have also cosponsored bills because of my input. You have to remember that even if they are pro-gun that they are not aware of every issue that we are aware of. They have more things than just Second Amendment issues that they deal with so we must make them aware so they can delve into our measures and support us.

I've said that they would tax toilet paper for years now, coming close.

They do.

I mean an extra tax like they tried on feminine products.

The legislation made that product line exempt from sales tax.

There was no extraordinary tax on it before, just sales tax.

Great. The butthole cleanliness tax, coming to a bathroom near you. Only in IL could something like that be thought up.

Next, taxing air.

If it save just one pair of panties...

Like that "nasty woman" Ashley Judd who hates having throw out her favorite panties?

Don't forget bed sheets too.
