THE KING Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:02 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:02 PM How do these morons think they can pass an unconstitutional ordinance.
cybermgk Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:09 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:09 PM Never let a crisis go to waste. This perfectly exemplifies that they simply want to disarm people, period.
Upholder Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:11 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:11 PM Suspend or limit burning of any items or property with the City limits and up to two (2) miles outside the corporate limits. You can't give yourself authority over things not in your jurisdiction.. but they're gonna do it anyway...

Illini2A312 Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:22 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:22 PM What's even their logic for banning gun/ammo sales because of the virus?
steveTA84 Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:22 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:22 PM Mayor is a Democrat. Shocking.......
THE KING Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:26 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:26 PM Don't know about starting a panic, but they sure are headed for a lot of civil disobedience.
MagSlap Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:27 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:27 PM Reading thru that entire document...you'd think Champaign was in China!!!!!!!!
MagSlap Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:28 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:28 PM Geez, if they want to start a panic: (6) Order the discontinuance of selling, distributing, dispensing or giving away of explosives or explosive agents, firearms or ammunition of any character whatsoever; (7) Order the control, restriction and regulation within the City by rationing, issuing quotas, fixing or freezing prices, allocating the use, sale or distribution of food, fuel, clothing and other commodities, materials, goods or services or the necessities of life; (8) (a) Order City employees or agents, on behalf of the City, to take possession of any real or personal property of any person, or to acquire full title or such lesser interest as may be necessary to deal with a disaster or emergency, and to take possession of and for a limited time, occupy and use any real estate to accomplish alleviation of the disaster, or the effects thereof; In the event any real or personal property is utilized by the City, the City shall be liable to the owner thereof for the reasonable value of the use or for just compensation as the case may be. Oh..but there is quite a bit more!
MagSlap Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:32 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:32 PM Just a few more... (13) Prohibit the sale or distribution within the City of any products which could beemployed in a manner which would constitute a danger to public safety. Riiiight.... I'm sure those determinations will be made with strict oversight. (16) Suspend or limit the use of the water resources or other infrastructure. You want water? Nope..you cant have water...(17) Control, restrict, allocate, or regulate the use, sale, production, or distribution offood, water, fuel, clothing, and/or other commodities, materials, goods, services andresources. GFY!!! <hat in hand>"Please mayor sir...may I have another..." Well...we'll just cut off 'EVERYTHING' (29) Exercise such powers and functions in light of the exigencies of emergency ordisaster including the waiving of compliance with any time consuming procedures andformalities, including notices, as may be prescribed by law.(30) Issue any and all such other orders or undertake such other functions and activities asthe Mayor reasonably believes is required to protect the health, safety, and welfare ofpersons or property within the City or otherwise preserve the public peace or abate, clean up,or mitigate the effects of any emergency or disaster. cls74 Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:43 PM Author Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:43 PM WAND 17 is facebook live at the meetingI don't and won't do Facebook, but if anyone would like to keep us updated that would be nice. I'm unable to watch, have to sneak to the door to get a signal just to post. I can't see how something like this can pass, but I wonder just how many meetings like this are set to take place or currently are across the nation. Certainly our left leaning members cannot be in favor of something this draconian.
mchenryill Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:49 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:49 PM Kinda reads like they want Marshal Law. Occupying land? So much for the Constitution.
evilbrownrifle Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:51 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:51 PM I didn't know Champaign had the authority to pass martial law. Not to mention, Constitutional issues aside, all of these controls will guarantee extreme hording and empty shelves.
THE KING Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:54 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:54 PM Just passed 9-0.Holy ****
evilbrownrifle Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:54 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:54 PM You would think there had been a nuclear war. Or that COVID had easy spread with EBOLA outcomes... and even then.
Jeffrey Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:55 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:55 PM It makes perfect sense if you prefer to follow Alinsky
mchenryill Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:56 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:56 PM How can they legally enforce these measures?
Molly B. Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:57 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:57 PM The ordinance does not enact any of these, it grants the mayor the authority to do so if she believes it necessary . . .
evilbrownrifle Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:59 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 03:59 PM The sheer level of poopshow this is going to cause will bite these fools in the butt. The local Marxist profs might be all happy finally be living the communist dream they've waited for but the poor oiks that serve the town's basic needs are not going to be happy. This will be a textbook illustration of unintended consequences. And when in a few onths they are not bulldozing bodies into mass graves...
evilbrownrifle Posted March 13, 2020 at 04:00 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 04:00 PM The ordinance does not enact any of these, it grants the mayor the authority to do so if she believes it necessary . . . Well, OK. Now we'll see political cowardice butt heads with the desire to dictate.
Upholder Posted March 13, 2020 at 04:19 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 04:19 PM Section 13. Duration. This ordinance shall be effective for 28 days from the date of passage. The ordinance shall continue for 28-day periods thereafter unless repealed or amended by the City Council. So, no end date.
MagSlap Posted March 13, 2020 at 04:48 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 04:48 PM The ordinance does not enact any of these, it grants the mayor the authority to do so if she believes it necessary . . . <Mayor walks outside...Looks up to the sky...Takes a deep breath...and smiles>You! Hot dog vendor across the street. STOP SELLING FOOD!!Charlie...go block off the entrance the gas stations and shut down the pumps.John... chain the doors on all the guns shops.Bob and Neal...well..you go close 'those' bars..Scott..its a bit too bright...shut down all the street lights.Ryan... Go grab the keys to Marriot down the street. We can stay there tonight.Mark....See that guy across the street with the Trump hat and shirt? That falls under "clothing, and/or other commodities" in the wonderful ordinance we just passed right? Get over there and 'Control, restrict, and regulate' his attire please.... Ahhh..its "Good To believe its necessary"...
billzfx4 Posted March 13, 2020 at 04:51 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 04:51 PM It makes perfect sense if you prefer to follow AlinskyExactly, perfect test run for socialism.
lockman Posted March 13, 2020 at 04:51 PM Posted March 13, 2020 at 04:51 PM If the Mayor proclaimed such power, then the removal of such "officials" by what ever means necessary would not violate the law, as the constitution and rule of law are suspended by such "official". Removal of such "officials" would restore the constitution and rule of law. Kind of harkens the old tree of liberty adage.
