Just spoke to Hi Point Corporate. Hi Point pistols now fall under the banned list of firearms not legal to sell. "Saturday Night Special" law, because of melting point temp of some of pistol components. They're not illegal to own but you cannot buy from FFL. The carbines are not affected.

Woah, any reference on this?

(720 ILCS 5/24‑3)

"(h) While holding any license as a dealer, importer,

manufacturer or pawnbroker under the federal Gun Control Act of 1968, manufactures, sells or delivers to any unlicensed person a handgun having a barrel, slide, frame or receiver which is a die casting of zinc alloy or any other nonhomogeneous metal which will melt or deform at a temperature of less than 800 degrees Fahrenheit. For purposes of this paragraph, (1) "firearm" is defined as in the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act; and (2) "handgun" is defined as a firearm designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand, and includes a combination of parts from which such a firearm can be assembled. IIRC, we have had other forum discussions on the topic in addition to the one linked above. There are a number of other firearms that fall in this category, yet you can (or at least could prviously) still find them on the shelves of many FFLs. Do they not know? Care? Is it a law that is simply ignored?

ETA I seem to recall a bill last year that tried changing that law but dont know what happened to it

From Feb bill watch thread

Synopsis As Introduced

Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Deletes provision that the offense of unlawful sale or delivery of firearms includes the manufacture, sale, or delivery by a holder of a license as a dealer, importer, manufacturer, or pawnbroker under the federal Gun Control Act of 1968 to any unlicensed person a handgun having a barrel, slide, frame, or receiver which is a die casting of zinc alloy or any other nonhomogeneous metal which will melt or deform at a temperature of less than 800 degrees Fahrenheit. Effective immediately.

The law hasn't changed. Unless Hi Point changed their alloy they either always were illegal for licensees to sell, or they still are not.

I've seen HiPoint pistols in stores recently, so what gives?

what if there was a law and nobody really cared

I found this topic interesting. Never heard of a Hi Point firearm before. Now if somebody gives me a "good deal" on a Hi Point, I'll know better.

NO such thing as a good deal on a Hi Point unless they give it to you and throw in some cash for you to take it.

I've seen Hi-Points in local gun stores, and I wanted one...

Admitting you have a problem is the first step.

He just wants one. I actually have one and like it.

I've said more times than I could count, don't knock it til you've tried it.

I've considered one of the carbines but then I saw they won't ship the high cap mags to Illinois at all...so not giving them my business.

Having had a carbine with the extended donkey d**k magazine you weren't missing anything.
