leadchucker Posted January 10, 2017 at 09:45 PM Share Posted January 10, 2017 at 09:45 PM Just spoke to Hi Point Corporate. Hi Point pistols now fall under the banned list of firearms not legal to sell. "Saturday Night Special" law, because of melting point temp of some of pistol components. They're not illegal to own but you cannot buy from FFL. The carbines are not affected.

WARFACE Posted January 10, 2017 at 09:48 PM Share Posted January 10, 2017 at 09:48 PM Yeah we need some proof of this. What are dealers that have them in their inventory supposed to do with them? Something doesn't pass the smell test here.
MagSlap Posted January 10, 2017 at 09:49 PM Share Posted January 10, 2017 at 09:49 PM Woah, any reference on this? (720 ILCS 5/24‑3)"(h) While holding any license as a dealer, importer, manufacturer or pawnbroker under the federal Gun Control Act of 1968, manufactures, sells or delivers to any unlicensed person a handgun having a barrel, slide, frame or receiver which is a die casting of zinc alloy or any other nonhomogeneous metal which will melt or deform at a temperature of less than 800 degrees Fahrenheit. For purposes of this paragraph, (1) "firearm" is defined as in the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act; and (2) "handgun" is defined as a firearm designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand, and includes a combination of parts from which such a firearm can be assembled. InterestedBystander Posted January 10, 2017 at 09:56 PM Share Posted January 10, 2017 at 09:56 PM IIRC, we have had other forum discussions on the topic in addition to the one linked above. There are a number of other firearms that fall in this category, yet you can (or at least could prviously) still find them on the shelves of many FFLs. Do they not know? Care? Is it a law that is simply ignored? ETA I seem to recall a bill last year that tried changing that law but dont know what happened to it From Feb bill watch thread Synopsis As IntroducedAmends the Criminal Code of 2012. Deletes provision that the offense of unlawful sale or delivery of firearms includes the manufacture, sale, or delivery by a holder of a license as a dealer, importer, manufacturer, or pawnbroker under the federal Gun Control Act of 1968 to any unlicensed person a handgun having a barrel, slide, frame, or receiver which is a die casting of zinc alloy or any other nonhomogeneous metal which will melt or deform at a temperature of less than 800 degrees Fahrenheit. Effective immediately. House SponsorsRep. Reginald Phillips

"Saturday Night Special" law, because of melting point temp of some of pistol components. They're not illegal to own but you cannot buy from FFL. The carbines are not affected. The law hasn't changed. Unless Hi Point changed their alloy they either always were illegal for licensees to sell, or they still are not.
