At 4:00pm today, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hear Senate Bill 206, legislation which would legalize the possession and use of suppressors in Illinois. It is important that you immediately contact your state Senator and strongly urge them to support Senate Bill 206 when it comes up for a vote.

Suppressors provide numerous benefits to the hunters and sportsmen who choose to use them. Most importantly, suppressors decrease muzzle report to hearing-safe levels and reduce shooters’ risk of hearing damage, which can occur when discharging a firearm without the proper hearing protection. Additionally, suppressors help increase accuracy by reducing felt recoil and shot “flinch.” Beginners to shooting sports adhere to a quicker learning curve on average because the muffled sound equates to increased focus and concentration on proper shooting mechanics. Furthermore, suppressors help reduce noise complaints from neighbors, which are frequently used as an excuse to close hunting lands throughout the country.

Again, please click the “Take Action” button above to contact your state Senator and politely urge them to support Senate Bill 206.

How do we feel about this amendment, HFA2, at this point?

I think it would also be important to stress how Europe allows suppressors for such reasonsl without as heavy a restriction as the US.

I modified my email to John Cullerton to focus on

a) how suppressors aren't the assassin tools that Hollywood portrays them as, but are legitimate safety devices and are widely available and in some places required throughout Europe

B) reduce firearm report to hearing-safe levels (about as loud as a rock concert)

c) Help hunters and sportsman to ethically take game (improved accuracy through recoil reducing decreases the risk of wounding the animal)

d) Reduce noise pollution that closes most hunting grounds in the state.

I dropped the "important pro-gun legislation" at the beginning, because he's definitely not pro-gun and I didn't want him to dismiss what I had to say outright.

Also - witness slips filed.
