  1. i applied last week. havent heard anything. probably because i am in cook
  2. 1) First confirm this is real. 2) Vote with your wallet.
  3. the person to person check at the isp website now asks for much more information than it used to. Seller info, buyer info, MAKE, MODEL, SERIAL NUMBER. https://verify.ispfsb.com/Public/Verification.aspx it's become a gun registry of who owns what.
  4. I recently read on Reddit of an arrest or of someone who was car-carrying a loaded AR15 pistol and was charged with carrying a loaded rifle. The post was taken down, likely on the advice of his lawyer. I'm trying to find details of this case, as obviously the ruling has major implications. Does anyone have any info?
  5. Second amendment foundation has always done good work in illinois. The firearm policy coalition is picking up the load where the NRA dropped off and also is involved in multiple cases in illinois and is actively seeking plaintiffs in cook county to attack the prohibition against concealed carry on public transportation. If i only gave to one, SAF. If i have enough, donate generously to both.
  6. There are a couple seats left in this class. If you were thinking of signing up, I wouldn't wait.
  7. I have a Defensive Pistol class, (DP1 Critical Pistol Skills) coming on April 16th at the Aurora Sportsman's Club. There are only a few days left to register and only a few spots left in the class. In Defensive Pistol 1 you'll learn the Critical Pistol Skills that you need to be a master of your firearm. This is the class you NEED after your concealed carry class. Holster draw and fire. Multiple Targets. Rapid target identification & acquisition. Multiple Reloading techniques. Malfunction drills. Voice commands. Point Shooting, also known as threat-focused shooting. Stress Inoculation. The basics of movement while shooting. Defensive Pistol 1 is a pre-requisite for our DP2, DP3, and Low light classes. Learn more and sign up: https://www.alphakoncepts.com/defensive-pistol-training/
  8. With HB4296 Concealed Carry – Forest Preserve back in committee, the deadline the judge set is March 15th, if I remember correctly, there is no way the civilian disarmament advocates in the Illinois house can pass this law in time. While they may try in the future, it seems to me that the prohibition of carrying in Cook County forest preserves shall expire in a few days. Thus it will no longer be unlawful to carry in the cook preserves making the cook preserves equal with the rest of the other county preserves. Do all agree? Also shall this prohibition be stricken from the compiled statute or shall that take an act of the general assembly to submit an amendment to have it removed? If not removed from the compiled statute, it seems to me that arrests shall continue. Having said that, the question is do the police agree?
  9. I have public classes or can do private classes at my school in Park Ridge. Week day or weekends. https://www.alphakoncepts.com
  10. about 75% of those weekly emails cause me to sigh and face palm. This week was no different.
  11. Where di Where did I say you CAN'T defend yourself? But since you asked, https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs4.asp?ActID=1876&ChapterID=53&SeqEnd=9700000&SeqStart=8200000 (720 ILCS 5/7-1) (from Ch. 38, par. 7-1) Sec. 7-1. Use of force in defense of person. (a) A person is justified in the use of force against another when and to the extent that he reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or another against such other's imminent use of unlawful force. However, he is justified in the use of force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if he reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or another, or the commission of a forcible felony. A punch the the face is unjustified force and your use of force is justified to defend. However a reasonable person (prosecutor, judge, and jury) is unlikely to agree that a single punch to the face is force which is intended or likely to cause immediate death or great bodily harm. Therefore ones use of lethal force to defend against a punch to the face wouldn't be justified. If anyone is thinking they're going to shoot someone who punches them, I really hope your self defense insurance is paid up. You're going to need it. This whole incident has me reminded of the cliche that a man who only owns a hammer looks at every problem as if it were a nail. Not all problems are nails. Not all use of force situations are lethal use of force situations. Also running away is almost always an option. We get bogged down in the discussion of what is legally justified. We are asking ourselves, "can we shoot?" The question we should be asking is "SHOULD we shoot?". Just because it might be legally justified doesn't mean it's always the best course of action. Are we really looking for excuses to take a life? That's sometimes what it seems like in these conversations. The reason I carry is to ensure I sleep in my bed at night. That's the goal. In this case, shooting is contrary to achieving that goal. Id have popped that curb before I'd have unrolled my window and got involved in that argument. Having just typed that paragraph reminds me of the protests of 2020 and a number of students emailed me asking "if blah blah blah blocking my car, can I shoot?" My answer was why? If you felt your lofe was in danger, why not just mash on the gas?
  12. Plenty of people have been arguing with me that a punch to the face presents lethal force. While there have been cases of people dying from one punch to the face they are incredibly rare. You're going to have an uphill battle convincing a judge or jury that a single punch to the face was an immediate thread of death or great bodily harm. In my opinion, although force was justified, lethal force was not justified. I hope the people who think shooting is an option to defend against a punch, I hope you have self defense insurance. One thing is for sure, you win the fight that you're not in and running away is often an option. I'd have popped the curb immediately as this guy approached my vehicle. I would have never rolled my windows down and engaged in an argument. Was it worth it?
  13. And if you don't get a card they say wait 45 days before contacting them. WHAT?! Hey ComEd, I swear I printed and mailed the check. Just wait 45 days and contact me back if you don't have it. I'm advising my students to start raising heck after 10 days. It doesn't take that long to arrive by mail, and since we know they are having printing errors, waiting 45 days to find out is a waste of time. A right delayed is a right denied.
  14. Registration to become a certified Sabre Pepper spray instructor closes on Arpil2 9th. Don't miss your opportunity to become certified to teach less lethal options for self-defense. https://www.sabrered.com/pepper-spray/civilian-safety-awareness-class-park-ridge-illinois-may-28th-2022 This 1-day Instructor Certification Program is designed to train instructor candidates in the methods of teaching effective self-defense and safety awareness utilizing SABRE pepper spray. 15. This is happening to A LOT of people. Some people are even getting 3 cards. Some people aren't getting any card.
  16. Why can you not buy ammo from out of state? what prevents an out of state retailer from verifying your foid? I don't like this nonsense anymore than anyone, but I haven't heard anyone being denied a sale because the retailer didn't want to verify. That's not to say that some vendors don't do business with Illinois people. It's just to say that there are plenty who will.
  17. I have a few seats available in this weekend's class, and just one seat available for March 12th and 13th.
  18. If one is to travel and intends to carry out of state, I am highly recommending to my students to get a FL and or AZ licenses to avoid any issues with an out of state LEO not understanding out stupid combined cards.
  19. The civilian disarmament politicians seem to be making up for lost time.
