Trevis Posted February 23, 2024 at 09:08 PM Share Posted February 23, 2024 at 09:08 PM So, in the renewal class, everything was pretty much boilerplate stuff that you'd expect. One thing stuck out to me, though. It was said that you can only carry one firearm, no backup. I don't remember that being part of the original law, and I keep relatively up to date with it. Had that been added or is the language of the actual law supportive of this take? Let me know!

Euler Posted February 23, 2024 at 10:37 PM Share Posted February 23, 2024 at 10:37 PM You can completely legally pretend to be Mel Gibson in Beyond Thunderdome if you want (and actually can).

dogsoldier321 Posted February 24, 2024 at 12:34 AM Share Posted February 24, 2024 at 12:34 AM Two is one, and one is none. Carry on my friend! I often have one in my bag that goes everywhere with me, and I typically have one on my person as well, for the times the bag does not make sense. AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted May 29, 2024 at 09:27 PM Share Posted May 29, 2024 at 09:27 PM I've heard this before, and while I disagree, the argument made is that the law says "carry A loaded or unloaded...." However, for those of us who watched the floor debates one state rep lost his marbles because the law specifically didn't limit the number of guns one could carry. FWIW, Simon Solomon, the gentleman who was arrested in the cook county forest preserves was carrying two guns at the time of his arrest and the 2nd gun was a non issue. i remind everyone that we can all be arrested for any reason or no reason at all. We then have to prove our innocence in the court of law.

howie Posted May 30, 2024 at 02:30 PM Share Posted May 30, 2024 at 02:30 PM I asked our state rep at the time (Mike Unes) that very question a few years back. He told me, after consulting ISP, you can carry one or one hundred, as long as they are concealed.

mauserme Posted May 30, 2024 at 04:52 PM Share Posted May 30, 2024 at 04:52 PM The Governor's attempted Amendatory Veto of HB183 of the 98th GA, the bill that became the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, read in part: The bill provides no cap on the number of guns or on the size or number of ammunition clips that may be carried. Instead, it allows individuals to legally carry multiple guns with unlimited rounds of ammunition, which is a public safety hazard. This "multiple gun" interpretation is consistent with the legislative intent expressed during floor debate. Thus, it was clearly understood that the legislative language was not intended to limit the number of firearms a licensee can carry. Rather, the language creates an exemption to the carry prohibition in 720 ILCS 5/24-1. When the legislature overrode the Governor's veto, they rejected his attempt to limit carry to a single firearm, leaving the number of firearms carried by licensees unregulated.
