DD123 Posted June 8, 2016 at 02:28 PM Posted June 8, 2016 at 02:28 PM Does anyone know which Dems are running unopposed this coming election? The reason I ask, and hopefully those of you more familiar with running for office , can guide me towards the process for tossing your hat into the ring. We constantly see people that run unopposed and if push comes to shove, I'd like to run against them. I'm not a lawyer, or quite frankly that qualified, but I'm sure that I'm way more qualified than some of these dems that are never challenged. I've never had an interest in being a politician, but I've had enough and want to get more involved and push through some changes in leadership. Even if I don't win, and more than likely I wouldn't, but we should have a choice when election time comes, not only one choice. If someone can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. I literally know nothing about running for office so even if it's in the form of a mentor, I would be highly interested. I haven't decided on what I'd run as, but if they can run RINO's...............

jpearson Posted June 8, 2016 at 02:42 PM Posted June 8, 2016 at 02:42 PM To late filing deadline for November election was May 31. Madigan and others were watching closely and holding their breath to see if any one would enter the un contested races. Now they dont have to worry. If you are serious need to start looking at running 2018 if there is an uncontested house race this year odds will be it will be uncontested 2018. Talk to your county Republican commitee. Reason why no one ran is because they think district is so lopsided that a republican can not win.

spanishjames Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:04 PM Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:04 PM Tammy Duckworth is running unopposed. Mark Kirk has just about laid down for her.

DD123 Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:22 PM Author Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:22 PM Dang, that sucks, but I will definitely read up on all of this and try to get in the next time. I think everyone is sick of seeing unopposed candidates. I'm sure everyone has seen enough posts of mine that shows how much I hate government so me even considering a run means that I've reached a point of disgust that I'd like to effect change myself. I believe that the platform that I'd run on would be the libertarian party, because I believe that there's a better chance of actually getting elected in a solidly blue district than running as a republican. Thanks for providing all of this information via links. I'm going to read up on everything and figure it all out so that I can enter the race. The only problem I'd personally have is the cash to run a campaign. I'll have to put some thought behind that because I don't want to wind up having to do things for people that aren't in the best interest of everyone.
TRJ Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:37 PM Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:37 PM Probably better to skip the libertarian party too. When I speak to dems they all poo poo on the libertarian name because they think it means you're unconcerned about the welfare of the truly poor and disenfranchised. Independent is best. All the Bernie voters know he's an I in his home state. Might as well capitalize on past success you can co-opt, even if the uninformed are perhaps duped by it. It's not dishonest, rather it's their own fault for not being involved. Might be worth a shot to run and use the soap box and media just like Trump has to call out the wrongs of both major parties and get folks to question why voting D hasn't improved their condition despite the promises.
d_tierne1 Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:51 PM Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:51 PM Tammy Duckworth is running unopposed. Mark Kirk has just about laid down for her. Yup after his comments he will be losing a bunch of votes including mine and I met the man a few times and thought I would always vote for him. This year she will get my vote just because he is a (redacted).

Independent would be a great way to get a foot in the door. I do have criticisms of both parties so that would be a perfect fit. There are a great deal of misconceptions about the libertarian party, and hopefully as time goes people will start to learn more about what the party actually stands for. I'm just tired of having mentally incompetent people in government and if the only potential candidates are the same every time, I want to get in and rock the boat. Like Trump, I'll have to work on filtering what comes out of my mouth lol.
spec4 Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:58 PM Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:58 PM Tammy Duckworth is running unopposed. Mark Kirk has just about laid down for her. Yup after his comments he will be losing a bunch of votes including mine and I met the man a few times and thought I would always vote for him. I have no use for Kirk but if I lived in IL I would vote for the GOP candidate against Duckworth no matter who they were. Do you really want a few decades of Duckworth in the Senate?
mic6010 Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:58 PM Posted June 8, 2016 at 03:58 PM Kirk is dead weight anyways. Hes about as much of a Democrat as a Republican can get. And if you want to get into IL politics you have to go find the people from whatever respected party you choose to run for in whatever area you want to run in.Get in good with them. One does not simply "run" for something because they decided they have a good outlook on things. Maybe at a village level, and even thats tuff. Those spots are bought and paid for years before hand with favors and promises to help those in the shadows who have the real power. The people that can get you the votes and endorsements and where you want to be. That's American politics.

This year she will get my vote just because he is a (redacted). You're thinking in terms of black/white versus shades of grey. Losing Kirk means possibly losing our control of the senate. Gotta look at the forest and not the trees. I've found that republican's get too focused on the micro versus the macro side. One less republican in the senate means less juice for republican's overall. I hate the guy too, but the big picture is far more important to me. ETA: don't forget, if we lose control of either the house or senate, and Hillary gets elected, we're basically screwed. Keep that in mind when thinking about the SCOTUS.
markthesignguy Posted June 8, 2016 at 04:10 PM Posted June 8, 2016 at 04:10 PM DD123,unless my memory is faulty, Kathleen Willis is your State Representative. (This time?) she is NOT running unopposed: Anthony Airdo is her opponent, and he does have a facebook page as well as a fundraiser in later July. Now, gerrymandering has affected that district, BUT the district USED to be Skip Saviano, a Republican - so there is hope of ridding ourselves of this current embarrassment.
markthesignguy Posted June 8, 2016 at 04:12 PM Posted June 8, 2016 at 04:12 PM p.s. and both duckworth and kirk are BOTH backbench embarrassments.

Just as bad, and there's less hope of unseating her. Skip is actually the mayor of my town now. My former mayor is now on the Crook County board. Skip got totally shafted. That's one thing we need to do away with is gerrymandering. It's basically like playing chess, except your Rooks, Bishops, Knights, and Queen are removed from the board before you start.

No way but the time to beat him is in the primart not the general election. He is a deadbeat but we need the R in the seat no matter who wins in November, but especially if H wins. I hope you reconsider.

1911 .45 Posted June 8, 2016 at 10:52 PM Posted June 8, 2016 at 10:52 PM Kirk is a pud. It truly is a sad state of affairs that the only viable option here is to cast my vote for someone that I totally despise. I obviously could never vote for Duckworthless, she is just your run of the mill ignorant liberal, but at least she doesn't pretend to be something she's not. I actually loathe Mark Kirk.
