Molly B. Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:12 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:12 PM IL House of Representatives Expected to Vote Soon onRight to Carry Bill HB148! Illinois state representatives return to Springfield Tuesday, April 26 and many believe a vote on Right to Carry bill HB148 is imminent. It is urgent that you call your state representative and firmly but politely ask them to support your right to protect yourself and your family. Urge them to vote YES on HB148. Every single vote will be critical for passage of the bill and it is common knowledge that legislators in the northeast portion of the state tend to oppose this legislation. If you live in the northeast part of the state, this call to action is especially important. If you have family or friends living in that area, please call them and urge them to contact their legislator. Need help finding your state representative? Go to Illinois State Board of Elections or call 217-782-2000
Drylok Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:22 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:22 PM Sent it to my buddies that I hunt with up at Chicago
3ddiver Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:24 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:24 PM Sent to my email list also. Everyone hold your breath now
JR1987 Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:33 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:33 PM Done and done. Sent Rep Burke a message requesting she support the bill.
PPK Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:34 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:34 PM Does this mean that the posted Full Text of HB148 is what they'll be voting on?

Federal Farmer Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:43 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 03:43 PM No, a Second amendment is expected first. Here's to the Second Amendment!
Bud Posted April 25, 2011 at 04:09 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 04:09 PM It absolutely cannot be stressed enough of how important it is for everyone to get involved immediately. Besides writing and calling your State reps, urging everyone you know to do the same can have an immediate effect. The anti-Second Amendment crowd continually condemns the action of the NRA and the gun lobby. But never once has the media or anyone who uses the term "gun lobby" has acknowledged that the gun lobby is everyone who supports the Second Amendment of our Constitution. All of us have close friends and family. Folks that we know we can always count on when we need help. It's time to stand up and take a stand for what is right and contact them and ask them to please help. The people who are against us are doing that and they have the media on their side. The only thing that will give politicians the courage to stand up and voite for us is to know that if they don't, we will throw them out. We outnumber the other folks, This arguement should not be happening because we have the majority on our side. But the majority can be defeated if it remains silent. Our State is in serious trouble and this vote is merely the first step in taking back our State from the corruption, political graft and the mindless voters of Chicago. It is time to stand up and join with other Illinois voters and demand the rights that are guaranteed to us by the US Constitution and denied to us by corrupt Illinois politicians. I want to be able to someday tell my grand children that I helped restore our Second Amendment rights.
Buzzard Posted April 25, 2011 at 04:26 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 04:26 PM Every single vote will be critical for passage of the bill and it is common knowledge that legislators in the northeast portion of the state tend to oppose this legislation. I would like to point out and applaud the accuracy of the above statement! It is NOT, nor has it ever been, legislators north of I-80 - which seems to be the common belief.
Skorpius Posted April 25, 2011 at 04:44 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 04:44 PM Just contacted Deb Mell, though her stance is probably clear based on her co-sponsorship of the failed mag ban bill. I should go over to Blago's house which isn't far from me, and use the press already assembled to preach our rights.
Paul Kirsey Posted April 25, 2011 at 04:59 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 04:59 PM Just sent this to my Rep, Michelle Mussman of the 56th District. She is currently a "No" vote but allegedly(she says) could be swayed depending on what she hears from her constituents. If anyone living in the 56th wants to copy this letter and email it to Mussman(or anyone, for that matter) you have my blessing. Hi Michelle, It appears HB148 may come up for a vote very shortly. I would really appreciate your support for this bill. I have a job which requires me to go in to some "not so nice" neighborhoods and I would like to be able to have some say about my own well being. Allowing properly trained, law abiding Illinois citizens the right to protect themselves is a most basic natural right and is the right thing to do. No person should ever have to rely on their cell phone to summons police when their very lives may depend on defending themselves right there and then. Considering the many women in the workplace these days who must come home late at night this bill would help level the playing field of a woman who is 5'2" 110lbs vs a 6'4" 240lb thug heck bent on doing his worst against an unsuspecting victim. This bill has the support of many law enforcement organizations in Illinois who recognize that it's time has come. 48 other states have some form of concealed carry and virtually all of them have lower crime rates than what we find in Illinois, especially Chicago which until the recent Supreme Court ruling had a handgun ban. It's ironic how these "gun free" zones also have the highest rates of gun related crime. The media always makes the same tired argument that fender benders will turn in to Wild West shootouts, but if you consider that hasn't happened in the states that allow CC it becomes clear this is just another agenda driven falsehood perpetuated by the media. So, I urge you to reconsider your vote as we have discussed before. Every child's mom or dad should be able to come home to them every night knowing they don't have to depend on an overworked, spread too thin law enforcement community to show up in time to prevent the unthinkable from happening. Thanks. Respectfully,
Federal Farmer Posted April 25, 2011 at 05:04 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 05:04 PM Just contacted Deb Mell, though her stance is probably clear based on her co-sponsorship of the failed mag ban bill. I should go over to Blago's house which isn't far from me, and use the press already assembled to preach our rights. My wife spoke to Deb Mell down in Springfield a few weeks ago. My wife got the idea she was against the bill but open to it personally. I bet her vote could be managed.
Skorpius Posted April 25, 2011 at 05:12 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 05:12 PM I'm willing to bet that few around here have spoken to her about it, pro OR con, so perhaps one of the few she'll hear from will be someone like myself and Mrs. Fed.
Sub Hunter Posted April 25, 2011 at 06:28 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 06:28 PM Done. Email sent to Rep. Mark Beaubien, Jr 52nd district.
sctman800 Posted April 25, 2011 at 06:52 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 06:52 PM Just called my Rep who is a co-sponser, my senator who says he will support it. Also called speaker Madigan's office, the person answering the phone was well aware of HB148. Also forewarded the e-mail I got today to every one on my list. Jim.
billzfx4 Posted April 25, 2011 at 07:09 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 07:09 PM Emails sent to Rep. Cunningham 35th District, also a few phone calls...daily.He's a Cook Co. democrat, but his votes on gun related issues have been all over the place. He voted with us on some and against us on others, so I really don't know what to make of him. My emails are all answered with a canned form letter from an aide, and I have to leave messages with his receptionist when calling. If anybody else feels like calling, it sure can't hurt.Rep. William Cunningham(217) 782-8200
3ddiver Posted April 25, 2011 at 07:27 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 07:27 PM For what its worth I just sent Rep Mussman an email asking for her support. I do not live in her district but reminded her that her vote still affects me.
Jeffrey Posted April 25, 2011 at 07:32 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 07:32 PM I just got off the phone with Kay Hatcher (50th) and had about a 15 minute conversation. She will be sponsoring any CC bill that comes up for a vote. She grew up in So. Illinois with guns in the home. She mentioned that a gun is more than just a tool. She will have my vote next election cycle.
bushyfan24 Posted April 25, 2011 at 07:39 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 07:39 PM I called Cunningham also. Will send fax when I get home tonight. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
mack69 Posted April 25, 2011 at 07:57 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 07:57 PM I called my Representative (Michelle Mussman) and talked with her assistant. I asked her to please tell Rep Mussman that I was one of her constituents and wanted to urge her to please vote for HB148 to which she responded "Ohhhh...very good"I have also had a few phone calls as well as unanswered emails with Representative Mussman. She has stated that she votes as her constituents request her to do so if you are in the 56th...Get on the phone and call her. 217-782-3725
Federal Farmer Posted April 25, 2011 at 08:00 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 08:00 PM I just faxed letters to Rep. D'Amico and Speaker Madigan. Frankly, I doubt D'Amico will ever budge, but at least the Speaker and let us have an open debate and up/down vote on the floor.
Elderberry Posted April 25, 2011 at 08:29 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 08:29 PM My wife spoke to Deb Mell down in Springfield a few weeks ago. My wife got the idea she was against the bill but open to it personally. I bet her vote could be managed. I have written and/or called every single member of the house. I have written, called and spoken face to face with my Rep & Sen (they are both strong supporters). Our chief of police has heard from me. Our sheriff has heard from me. (Both strong supporters, by the way.) Some of them have heard from me to the point that their staff seem tired of hearing from me. That's too bad.... I also have a long list of gun owners that I communicate with nearly every day to keep them up to speed on all our bills (THANKS so much to those on this web site that work so hard to keep the rest of us up to speed...!!!), and I always alert my list to write/call when this web site says it's time to do so. I know many of them take action too... In reference to Fed's quote above, this is the one thing about politics that has always frustrated me to no end. I understand party politics. Sometimes it works for my beliefs, sometimes against. It is a necessary evil on many "party line issues". I understand that. But I vote for people based on how it appears THEY believe. I trust them to always vote according to THEIR principals FIRST on matters of the CONSTITUTION and BILL OF RIGHTS. They are the solid foundation that our entire nation has rested on for well over 200 years. Unfortunately, too many of them clearly do not vote their principals or this fight wouldn't even exist. After all, they swore an oath when they took office and there are really relatively few things that are spoken to directly in our founding documents and guns are clearly one of those. Those that vote against HB148 are sending a LOUD message that they either have no principals or swore a false oath. There simply can be no other logical answer because I will not accept the excuse of party politics on fundamental constitutional issues. No voter should....
Paul Kirsey Posted April 25, 2011 at 08:43 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 08:43 PM I also spoke to Rep Phelp's assistant who is sitting in for Mussman's assistant today. Had a nice 10 minute conversation with her. She is very strongly for it also. I asked her for any feedback regarding support. She said the calls supporting HB148 were BY FAR more numerous than those opposed. I told her to please be sure Mussman received my message and also to thank Phelps for all his efforts to make this happen. She said the extension to May 6 has been granted meaning there must be a vote by then. EVERYONE, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR REPS!!! It seems we are soooo close to making important Illinois history! We are flirting with achieving the 71 votes needed for a supermajority. EVERY VOTE AND EVERY PHONE CALL COUNTS! This could come down to 1 vote!

I would like to point out and applaud the accuracy of the above statement! It is NOT, nor has it ever been, legislators north of I-80 - which seems to be the common belief. Nope. Our rep, Mr. Sacia, is a co-sponsor and about as north of I80 as it's possible to get in Ill-i-noise.
BigJim Posted April 25, 2011 at 09:13 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 09:13 PM Made a phone call (only got to talk with an aid) and sent a follow up email. I would write a letter but given the U.S.P.S the letter will arrive after the vote.
3ddiver Posted April 25, 2011 at 09:41 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 09:41 PM I just shot Rep Mell an email also. May not help but it shouldnt hurt.My Rep is solid on her support and I dont need to flood her with calls and emails until after she votes YES.
trea Posted April 25, 2011 at 09:50 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 09:50 PM Just sent my rep (Barickman) an e-mail.Thanked him for his suppport. And told him how I have told all the people I know of his support.
Rem870 Posted April 25, 2011 at 10:45 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 10:45 PM Anybody know where Chapin Rose stands on the issue?
Johnnybgood Posted April 25, 2011 at 10:53 PM Posted April 25, 2011 at 10:53 PM Called Rep. Rosenthals office. He is one hundred percent behind us.

I would like to point out and applaud the accuracy of the above statement! It is NOT, nor has it ever been, legislators north of I-80 - which seems to be the common belief. I think that notion tends to do a disservice to the members of the legislature from the northern and western half of Lake County as well as those in McHenry county. My rep is already signed-on as a co-sponsor of 148...I think generalizations can be just as dangerous whether you are referring to Democrats in Southern Illinois or Republicans in the northern part of the state.
