junglebob Posted December 15, 2010 at 08:04 PM Posted December 15, 2010 at 08:04 PM Just a reminder there are 15 days left to get a Pennsylvania License to carry by mail, after December 30 you will have to go to Pa to apply. A FOID card copy is required of Illinois residents. I was wondering if the LTC had to be issued by December 30 and called the Centre County office in Pa. I was told they have to receive the application by then. So some folks who are waiting for their FOID cards might get under the wire. Cost is $26 for 5 years, it is good in the surrounding states of Mo, Ky, In, Ar, Tn now and also Iowa after December 30. Good in 20 states for those not a resident of Pa, then also Iowa in 2011.
Hatchet Posted December 15, 2010 at 08:21 PM Posted December 15, 2010 at 08:21 PM so just mail to any county in PA? mite pick it up... my FL and Utah covers them all.. but an extra for 26 bucks... couldnt hurt... and just a copy of the FOID is needed to be sent with the application and fee? just want to make sure i got this right...
Chad Posted December 15, 2010 at 08:55 PM Posted December 15, 2010 at 08:55 PM FOID and DL. It arrives shockingly fast, makes the FOID system look silly. There is a thread here about how to do it, I believe stickied, it includes the app on PDF.
Hatchet Posted December 15, 2010 at 10:39 PM Posted December 15, 2010 at 10:39 PM k thanks... off to look
junglebob Posted December 15, 2010 at 10:56 PM Author Posted December 15, 2010 at 10:56 PM FOID and DL. It arrives shockingly fast, makes the FOID system look silly. There is a thread here about how to do it, I believe stickied, it includes the app on PDF.Click on the Illinois Right To Carry Forum and the Get a Permit From Other States Topic. There is a link to the Centre County Pa Sheriff's Department, they issue non-resident LTC. You can download the application. Send them it completed along with a check (personal check O.K.) copy of your Drivers License and FOID card. You need 2 references for the application, they didn't contact mine, or for some others that have applied. They don't wait for your check to clear, they trust you more than the state of Illinois does. The get a Pennsylvania Permit topic should answer about all your questions, if it doesn't you could always call the Centre County Sheriff's Office. Those folks are some of the most polite and helpful civil servants I have come across. The are also very efficient sometimes issueing a LTC in a week.
templar223 Posted December 15, 2010 at 11:40 PM Posted December 15, 2010 at 11:40 PM I was under the impression you were good until Mar 31. John
Hatchet Posted December 15, 2010 at 11:54 PM Posted December 15, 2010 at 11:54 PM yea i found it and filled it out... will be sent out tomorrow... so lets how long it takes...
Nomad Posted December 16, 2010 at 01:40 AM Posted December 16, 2010 at 01:40 AM Mine only took seven days! Sent it on Election Day and got it the very next Tuesday. The process was so easy that I feel EVERY IllinoisCarry member should do it, even if you don't plan on carrying in the near future. Getting this is so easy that you'd be a fool to pass this one up. Did I mention that it's easy?
Mr. Fife Posted December 16, 2010 at 04:11 AM Posted December 16, 2010 at 04:11 AM so just mail to any county in PA? Centre County My link Don't forget a copy of your FOID
sctman800 Posted December 16, 2010 at 08:21 AM Posted December 16, 2010 at 08:21 AM One friend I work with sent his in Dec. 4th and got it back Dec 10th. Jim.

Is it possible to add a poll to this topic now that it is started. I'm wondering how many folks have the Pa LTC or have applied?
wazzle Posted December 16, 2010 at 02:04 PM Posted December 16, 2010 at 02:04 PM Is that true for a renewal, or is there such a thing? Is it like a FOID, reapply for a new card when the first expires.

Is it like a FOID, reapply for a new card when the first expires. For a renewal you fill out the same form and mark the renewal box. Good for 5 years. I called the Centre County Sheriff's Office and was told that the cutoff for renewals by mail is December 30 as well. I just sent my renewal in and would recommend anyone else who wants to keep the PA LTC do so as well. Templar223 said he thought the cutoff was March 31, well when I called the Sheriff's Office they said they were trying to get an extension til May. Will they get it? Who knows? Why chance it when you can get it by mail now. She said Sheriff Nau's website www.dennynau.com will have information on any extension.
ishmo Posted December 16, 2010 at 02:48 PM Posted December 16, 2010 at 02:48 PM One friend I work with sent his in Dec. 4th and got it back Dec 10th. Jim.I sent my renewal in 11/22 and got it back 11/29, not a bad turnaround time considering the holiday involved. Sent my FOID renewal in 11/8 and finally got it 12/13 thanks to a large assist from Todd V. It never ceases to amaze me just how screwed up this state is.
TomKoz Posted December 16, 2010 at 05:28 PM Posted December 16, 2010 at 05:28 PM Sent my PA application with copy of IL Driverss Licence, copy of FOID, copy of Utah permit, and $26 check about 2 weeks ago. Still haven't received PA Permit. Should I be worried??? Seems most folks got them back within 10 days.

Jeffrey Posted December 16, 2010 at 06:18 PM Posted December 16, 2010 at 06:18 PM Mine doesn't expire for a couple more years. Am I OK to send now or will I be grandfathered in when expiration comes near to just renew through USPS?

Am I OK to send now or will I be grandfathered in when expiration comes near to just renew through USPS?I checked for you, the sheriff's office said that when it expires you will have to come in person and renew if it is after the cutoff date. Then they'll be required to take a photo and do it in the office. She said you can renew early if you wish and it will be good for 5 years from the renewal date. All the other counties require a photo and that you come in, they are being required to also.

If that doesn't work he doesn't have much motivation.

jim123 Posted December 29, 2010 at 09:30 PM Posted December 29, 2010 at 09:30 PM So is there another state we can use instead of Penn? Centre County is over 600 miles one way. I don't know if I'll move to North West Indiana by 7/22/2015 or if illinois will become a normal state before then.

I don't know if I'll move to North West Indiana by 7/22/2015 or if illinois will become a normal state before then. By 2015 there won't be a single working person left in this state, unless you call government employees and legislaters working people. Illinois will have driven the honest people out and all that will be left is welfare cases, criminals, illegal immigrants, government employees and the Democrats that ran Illinois right into the ground.

I was told that the sheriff is will be issuing by mail for at least a little while longer. I was told he would like to keep issuing non-resident by mail. There is some new equipment involved with the new issue system I believe. If you want the Pa LTC by mail better get your application in now after the state determines "the fat lady sings" you'll have to make a long trip for it.
jim123 Posted December 30, 2010 at 07:14 PM Posted December 30, 2010 at 07:14 PM I just renewed 5 months ago. Not sure its worth it for just 5 more months.
