transplant Posted May 9, 2017 at 01:44 AM Posted May 9, 2017 at 01:44 AM The bill passed in the Senate last month and moved to the house. Its status is currently "Referred to Rules Committee." What are likely next steps and when is the first opportunity to file witness slips on it? Current status: http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/billstatus.asp?DocNum=1657&GAID=14&GA=100&DocTypeID=SB&LegID=104404&SessionID=91 I did not see a rules committee hearing scheduled for tomorrow 5/9: http://my.ilga.gov/Hearing/AllHearings?chamber=H(note: link does not have date filter)
mauserme Posted May 9, 2017 at 01:54 AM Posted May 9, 2017 at 01:54 AM Assuming it moves in the House, the most straight forward path would be that Rules refers it out to a substantive committee like Judiciary - Criminal, which will schedule it for a hearing. It's at that point we'll be able to file witness slips. It could also be amended in the House to gain a few votes which would send it back to the Senate, giving us two whacks at it. There are more "unique" routes it could take but I'd be surprised if that happened. And, there's a chance it won't move in the House at all.
transplant Posted May 9, 2017 at 02:07 AM Author Posted May 9, 2017 at 02:07 AM Thanks. What is the latest date it could be passed by the house and sent to the governor's desk for signature or veto, assuming its not sent back to the senate?
mauserme Posted May 9, 2017 at 02:22 AM Posted May 9, 2017 at 02:22 AM Spring Session is scheduled through 5/31/2017, but it's not uncommon to see that extended or to have a Summer Session. Last year we had a continuous session all the way through the Fall and into Winter. .
JDW Posted May 9, 2017 at 02:37 AM Posted May 9, 2017 at 02:37 AM Hi IC, Can someone refer me to a FAQ on how and where to fill out witness slips. If and when the time arrives, I want to be able to do my part without totally screwing it up. TIA
InterestedBystander Posted May 9, 2017 at 02:42 AM Posted May 9, 2017 at 02:42 AM Mauser usually will often post a link to instructions so Im sure that will happen once we find slips are open. I recommend creating an account at ilga and doing it signed in. That way the position can be changed if you accidentally selected wrong position, otherwise it is not changeable. if you go to http://my.ilga.gov under help there is a witness slip user guide and FAQ

markthesignguy Posted May 9, 2017 at 05:50 AM Posted May 9, 2017 at 05:50 AM Thanks. What is the latest date it could be passed by the house and sent to the governor's desk for signature or veto, assuming its not sent back to the senate? Past May 31, IIAC it goes from 60 (simple majority) vote passage to 3/5 which is 71 votes. Anyone have an idea on how likely Rauner will veto the legislation if it passes the house? I don't think it will pass but if it passes I think he will do the right thing and veto it. Then the Dems will use that veto to try to demonize Rauner and hang the "subsequent" violence upon him as HIS fault at the next Gubernatorial election. You gotta remember that Rauner is doing what we elected him to do, FIGHT MADIGAN for changes. It's a game of "chicken" and so far no one has blinked or swerved. We MUST support Rauner by making sure it never lands on his desk.
cls74 Posted May 9, 2017 at 11:06 PM Posted May 9, 2017 at 11:06 PM Next step, kill it! Kill it with fire they have a lead already. Edit, this is not an official call to action. http://my.ilga.gov/WitnessSlip/Create/104404?committeeHearingId=14949&LegislationId=104404&HCommittees5%2F16%2F2017-page=1&committeeid=0&chamber=H&nodays=7&_=1494371015249
lawman Posted May 10, 2017 at 09:00 PM Posted May 10, 2017 at 09:00 PM NRA has a call to action to fill out witness slips. Where can you see the totals, i.e., number of opponents v. proponents?

ScottFM Posted May 10, 2017 at 09:20 PM Posted May 10, 2017 at 09:20 PM I have not seen what to do next from Springfield Armory. They've called for action and have said "We are wholeheartedly against this bill and will fight shoulder-to-shoulder with the NRA, National Shooting Sports Foundation, the Illinois State Rifle Association and others to see it defeated as the unnecessary and harmful overreach that it is." that is from their CEO Dennis Reese. So I am sure they will be leading us all to the next step!!!! Wait, nothing heard from them since this message on 2 May? How the heck can that be? They must be busy in the trenches!

I think I read that they have popups and take action links about the bill on some sites like gunbroker
