Molly B. Posted October 30, 2018 at 03:27 PM Posted October 30, 2018 at 03:27 PM Sixteen counties have referendums supporting the Second Amendment on their Nov. 6 ballot. Several municipalities and Cook Co. have anti-Second Amendment referendums. It is crucial that you read the question carefully before voting because the wording can be tricky. Most would be a YES vote for Second Amendment supporters but Christian Co. and Montgomery Co. are worded differently and Second Amendment supporters would vote NO. Pro-Second Amendment referendums: Boone - Shall Boone County oppose any law restricting law-abiding gun owners from their Second Amendment rights as guaranteed by the US Constitution and to protect them from unconstitutional gun laws which have or may be passed by the Illinois General Assembly?" Cole - COLES COUNTY RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS Should the Illinois General Assembly pass legislation protecting a citizens right to keep and bear arms as defined by the second amendment of the United States Constitution? Yes/No Christian - Should the Illinois General Assembly pass any additional legislation limiting a citizen's right to keep and bear arms as defined by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution? Cumberland - Should the lllinois GeneralAssembly protect a citizen's right to keep and bear arms as defined by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution? Hardin - "Shall Hardin County become a sanctuary county for law abiding gun owners to protect them from unconstitiutional laws passed by the Illinois General Assembly?" Iroquois - Should the Illinois General Assembly refrain from passing any additional legislation limiting a citizen's right to bear arms as defined by the Second Amendment to the United State Constitution Johnson - '"Shall Johnson County become a sanctuary county for law abiding gun laws passed by the General Assembly LaSalle - "Shall LaSalle County oppose the passage of any bill where the Illinois General Assemb ly desires to restrict the Individual right of US Citizens as protected by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution "? Logan - "Shall Logan County become a sanctuary county for all firearms unconstitutionally prohibited by the government of the State of llllnols, for everyone except undocumented immigrants, in that Logan County will prohibit its employees from enforcing the unconstitutional actions of the state government." Macoupin - “Should the General Assembly pass any additional legislation that restricts a citizen’s ability to own and possess guns or firearms?” Madison - Shall Madison County become a sanvtuary County for law abiding Gun owners to protect them from unconstitutional gun laws passed by the Illinois General Assembly? Massac - "Shall Massac County become a sanctuary county for law abiding gun owners to protect them from unconstitutional gun laws passed by the Illinois General Assembly?" Moultrie - Should the Illinois General Assembly pass legislation protecting a citizen's right to keep and bear arms as defined by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution? Montgomery - Should the Illinois General Assembly pass any additional legislation that restricts a citizen's ability to own and possess guns or firearm? Richland - Shall Richland County become a sanctuary county for law abiding gun owners to protect them from unconstitutional gun laws passed by the Illinois General Assembly? White - Civil Rights of Firearm Owners - The People of White County, Illinois are OPPOSED to all attempts by the Illinois General Assembly, in violation of their Oath of Office, to infringe upon the Constitutional Right of the PEOPLE to Keep and Bear Arms. Anti-Second Amendment referendums:While these referendums may seem like 'commonsense' questions, we know they will be used by these entities to pass legislation and ordinances to further restrict our rights. The storage question comes up time and again with lawmakers who want to lock up any and all guns that are not carried on your person. The Chicago/Cook Co. referendum is a trick question all around. Of course everyone would be in favor of strengthening penalties for illegal firearm trafficking - but not for requiring all gun dealers to be certified by the state when they are already regulated under federal law. Chicago/Cook Co. - Should the State of Illinois strengthen penalties for the illegal trafficking of firearms and require all gun dealers to be certified by the State? Melrose Park - '"Shall all firearms be required by law to be stored in a safe and secure manner that prevents access by unauthorized persons, when such firearms are not under the control of the owner?" Oak Park Township - "Shall all firearms be required by law to be stored in a safe and secure manner that prevents access by unauthorized persons, when such firearms are not under the direct personal control of the owner?"
ChicagoRonin70 Posted October 30, 2018 at 11:44 PM Posted October 30, 2018 at 11:44 PM Chicago/Cook Co. - Should the State of Illinois strengthen penalties for the illegal trafficking of firearms and require all gun dealers to be certified by the State? This is the equivalent of saying, "Would you like to continue to breathe and be punched in the face?"
Sigma Posted October 31, 2018 at 12:13 AM Posted October 31, 2018 at 12:13 AM The cook one is so bad. Wish there was a way we could challenge these in it's infacy
lilguy Posted October 31, 2018 at 01:12 AM Posted October 31, 2018 at 01:12 AM Yes, elect the Republican candidate for governor and keep your second amendment right. Elect the democrat and lose them. This is the referendum that counts. All this other stuff is window dressing. The Illinois state government will not be deterred by these gun safe countries. Illinois is not kidding folks, they’re coming for our guns.
soylentgreen Posted October 31, 2018 at 03:04 PM Posted October 31, 2018 at 03:04 PM Define "safe and secure". Nothing is absolutely secure. What kind of gun safe is required? Will a $150 cabinet good enough? I don't expect anti-gun owners to actually ask themselves these questions. Guns = icky. Gun owners = bad. I guess I will say I'm heartened to see there are more pro-freedom referenda on ballots across the state than anti-freedom ones.

Quiet Observer Posted November 7, 2018 at 05:06 PM Posted November 7, 2018 at 05:06 PM It is too bad that the Illinois General Assembly was not set up similar the U.S. Congress in which one house is based on population and the other on territory. If each county had the same number of state senators, the power of Cook County would be limited. Anti-2A bills would be blocked by down-state state senators. Now what passes or is defeated in one house often has the same result in the other, since Chicago has such a overwhelmingly large population compared to the rest of the state.
