timdske Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:07 AM Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:07 AM I've been trying to search an answer, and can't find it. I'm looking to leave Illinois, I'm going to a state that Illinois allows to get a non-resident ccl. Will Illinois allow me to convert my ccl to a non-resident license? Thank you.
InterestedBystander Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:17 AM Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:17 AM Sure, if your definition of convert is submit a new non resident application and pay the non resident fees (seriously though, no conversions)
kwc Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:19 AM Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:19 AM The statute offers no provision to “convert” your CCL when moving to become a resident of a substantially similar state. The ISP will cancel your FCCL when you get your new driver’s license, and you will need to reapply for the IL FCCL once you obtain a permit or license in your new state. Several on this forum have reported this happening to them in the past.
quackersmacker Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:21 AM Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:21 AM The short answer is NO. This IS ILLannoy!
sirflyguy Posted June 6, 2018 at 04:11 AM Posted June 6, 2018 at 04:11 AM $300.00 more for the privilege.
oohrah Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:41 PM Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:41 PM Welcome to Texas! (Saw you on the TexasCHLforum). I'm betting you will have to wait until you get your TX DL and LTC, then reapply and go through the whole non-resident procedure. But, at least you will be able to eventually get there.
BigJim Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:48 PM Posted June 6, 2018 at 01:48 PM The other question OP didn't ask is can he reuse his original training cert if he reapplies for a non-resident FCCL or will this lousy state make him take class again?
BobPistol Posted June 6, 2018 at 03:20 PM Posted June 6, 2018 at 03:20 PM Do you need an Illinois FCCL? Are you going to return to Illinois and visit?

I never thought about that.
timdske Posted June 6, 2018 at 05:15 PM Author Posted June 6, 2018 at 05:15 PM Do you need an Illinois FCCL? Are you going to return to Illinois and visit? Primary reason I want the non-resident is so I don't have to wait for my new ccl from the state I'm going to.
dumpnpump Posted June 6, 2018 at 05:53 PM Posted June 6, 2018 at 05:53 PM I don't know about other states, but when I moved to Michigan, they honored my Illinois permit and other non resident permits while I got my Michigan license. They also waived the six month residency requirement.

In which case, you still have your old CCL so use that until your new permit from your new home state comes in.

There's a reason you can't find an answer, Illinois non-residents ccl states ZERO.

yyyz Posted June 7, 2018 at 01:33 AM Posted June 7, 2018 at 01:33 AM We left Illinois last month... moved to South Carolina. Not the most tax friendly state, but better than Illinois. And, when we all leave, who will be left to pay the taxes?

Primary reason I want the non-resident is so I don't have to wait for my new ccl from the state I'm going to. Get a Florida license, honored in TX, before you leave. Turn around time for an LTC in TX is not too bad.. BTW, just saw TX LTCs are taking 20-60 days to issue, depending on BG checks.

Wild Bill Posted June 24, 2018 at 11:28 PM Posted June 24, 2018 at 11:28 PM When you use the words "will Illinois ALLOW ME TO ..."The answer is no. Illinois will not allow you to do anything unless you pay a large tax for it.That's part of the reason why everyone - including me, are leaving the state

oohrah Posted June 25, 2018 at 01:11 PM Posted June 25, 2018 at 01:11 PM Yep, I'm a TX resident and I have an IL CCL.
