quackersmacker Posted March 30, 2018 at 08:27 PM Share Posted March 30, 2018 at 08:27 PM The Vermont legislature has just sent a gun control bill to the Governor, including a ban on "high capacity" magazines. This, from a state that has always had Constitutional carry (for both residents and non-residents) and open carry for both long guns and handguns. Those may now be at risk as well. We're in real trouble when this happens in Vermont. https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/vermont/articles/2018-03-30/vermont-senate-to-vote-on-gun-restrictions
Evil Porkchop Posted March 30, 2018 at 08:56 PM Share Posted March 30, 2018 at 08:56 PM Same stuff they want to shove through here basically. But they will have major court challenges to this.
lockman Posted March 30, 2018 at 10:52 PM Share Posted March 30, 2018 at 10:52 PM This is just another case of the behavior of criminals and the mentally insane dictate our freedoms and liberty. It will be interesting how the VT courts will rule in these measures. Vermont has some very strong precedent making gun control very difficult. A show of force of the resistance the tyrants will face if the legal system fails to protect the fundamental right to bear arms. Among the most stupid things that the U.S. did in the 20th century was to give 18 year olds the right to vote.If a citizen can be conscripted they should have a right to have some say in the matter. The 26th amendment is in place because 18 year olds were getting drafted without being able to vote for their representation. Hipshot Percussion Posted March 31, 2018 at 06:08 PM Share Posted March 31, 2018 at 06:08 PM Poiticians overreacting to a bunch of emotional teenagers. Among the most stupid things that the U.S. did in the 20th century was to give 18 year olds the right to vote. They aren't overreacting. This isn't a knee-jerk response to an unfathomable occurrence. They see it as an opportunity, a fortuitous though tragic event. They know as well as we do that you can't stop a madman, but it offers them a serendipitous stroke of emotional cover to move against the Second Amendment, our guns, our Rights, our Freedoms and eventually, our very way of life. It is difficult to stay vigilant if I allow myself to think this is just a passing storm of overreaction and emotions.
Ultralisk Posted March 31, 2018 at 06:20 PM Share Posted March 31, 2018 at 06:20 PM When you take the statistics into account it's even more ridiculous. Between 2011 and 2016 there were 420 deaths where a firearm was used in Vermont.Of those 420, 373 were suicides. That's 89%. 8 non-suicide deaths per year. Coming from a free state like Vermont, this is tremendous news. Doesn't bode well.
45Badger Posted March 31, 2018 at 07:00 PM Share Posted March 31, 2018 at 07:00 PM Vermont has had lax gun laws because it is a very small state and has no large cities to drive crime. It is also a very liberal progressive state in all other ways. Socially and economically is deep blue. Very nice place, very nice people. Guns have not been an issue because they’re practically a non-issue.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
