Molly B. Posted May 31, 2012 at 02:34 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 02:34 PM Right to Carry Bill Stalled in House,Blocked by Speaker Madigan We are down to the last day of session and afterbeing told repeatedly that we are 1 to 2 votes away from having the super majority we need to pass Right to Carryafter the Chicago Black Caucus asked for and was granted a special task force to analyze concealed carry laws and the effect of those laws in the other 49 statesin spite of the fact that we are the only state left without a Right to Carry lawand even though hundreds of women like Mary Shepard continue to be assaulted, raped, and murdered through out this state Mary Shepard and the people of Illinois may be denied a vote on a Right to Carry bill by Speaker Mike Madigan Madigan and Madigan alone has the power to move the carry bill out of rules committee and onto the floor for a vote. In a maneuver to expedite a vote on Right to Carry, House bills HB148 and HB5745 have been combined into an amendment for SB2539. Speaker Mike Madigan controls whether or not that bill moves out of committee today. Madigan is the Democrat leader of the House and the state party. If you have a Democrat representative, call them today and urge them to tell Madigan to move SB2539 out of rules committee. You can find contact information for your State Representative by going to the IL State Board of Elections website.

ChicagoSigFan Posted May 31, 2012 at 03:08 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 03:08 PM Call made to Rep Dunkin (5th Dist).
Drylok Posted May 31, 2012 at 03:11 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 03:11 PM There's nothing left, it's all in the hands of 1 person. Hey I found out last night that running a magazine through your AR as fast as you can pull the trigger really helps one releive his frustration and anxiety.
AFigmentOfYourImagination Posted May 31, 2012 at 03:12 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 03:12 PM My Rep. (Morthland) is pro carry and pro 2A in general and he voted against 3881, much like I figured he would. My Senator (Jacobs) has also been pro carry.
oneshot Posted May 31, 2012 at 04:17 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 04:17 PM I'd say call Madigan's office. I don't care if he's not our directly elected official, as far as I'm concerned, if he's the Speaker and has this kind of power, his accountability can't simply fall to his district, it falls to all of us.

I was wondering why this as well.
bersa380 Posted May 31, 2012 at 04:31 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 04:31 PM Is there not some way they can keep them from adjourning until this bill is called?
abolt243 Posted May 31, 2012 at 04:37 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 04:37 PM Is there not some way they can keep them from adjourning until this bill is called? No
bersa380 Posted May 31, 2012 at 04:58 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 04:58 PM Ok so the SB can not be called but couldn't one of the HB's either 148 or 5745 be called by their sponsors? Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2
Getzapped Posted May 31, 2012 at 05:02 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 05:02 PM i don't think so, all the bills got the 19/a treatment and are all in rules committee.
lockman Posted May 31, 2012 at 05:05 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 05:05 PM Is there not some way they can keep them from adjourning until this bill is called? If there is no further business the speaker can adjourn. Of course he will declare no further business whether there is or not and ignore any shouts or objections from the floor.
202s Posted May 31, 2012 at 05:27 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 05:27 PM I just called Rep Phelps office to ask that he request Madigan call for a vote on CC. The lady answering the phone stated they have been requesting this, today included and have been told no.
Uncle Harley Posted May 31, 2012 at 06:06 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 06:06 PM That doesn't sound good! Did you reaaly expect anything else? After hearning some of the things that's in it, I'm not so sure it should pass, It's one thing to get RTC, but to sell out in order to get it? We need to start blocking all bills out of chicago untill we get our way. We can't pass certain bills without Chicago, they can't pass any unless downstate folds. We should all be contacting our reps and tell them NOTHING comes out of CHicago untill they start giving down state a fair shake.
Talonap Posted May 31, 2012 at 06:10 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 06:10 PM That's what was supposed to happen yesterday - didn't work too well.
Drylok Posted May 31, 2012 at 06:17 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 06:17 PM It's over, Madigan isn't going to budge. The court is going to do this for us. Have you noticed Bud hasn't been around much lately?
Uncle Harley Posted May 31, 2012 at 06:18 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 06:18 PM That's what was supposed to happen yesterday - didn't work too well. I didn't hear a peep about it untill it was over with. Anytime a bill comes out that benifits Chicao specifically, we need to blow up the wires just like we do on a anti gun bill. Kill these things in comitte and don't wait till the last minute. I have a meeting set up with my Rep during the summer recess, one of the things I am going to ask him is to vote no on all Chicago bills, and to let me know if he see's any particular nasty ones that need killed pronto. The reason the down staters vote yes, is because they are promised money or jobs, but how many times do they have to get burned before they stop believing them.
Don Gwinn Posted May 31, 2012 at 09:29 PM Posted May 31, 2012 at 09:29 PM Madigan sure knows how to make it seem like the votes are there. I suppose he could just be protecting his people from having to cast a vote against--AGAIN--but that's not how it looks.
