Careful with Freedom, they have a history of quality control issues.

As in their branded ammo? For the 45, I chose Winchester from them! But their .308 did look ok upon inspection.

I wanted to add in here, I was able to order from Freedom Munitions,

https://www.freedommunitions.com

I am in McHenry and ordered 200 rounds of .308, and 100 rounds of .45 for about $210 bux

their Illinois policy is as follows, it doesn’t mention counties, and I did receive my order. Not sure if this is on the list somewhere already, but thought I would toss it in here, feel free to delete if they are a NO to chi town.

Instructions for Illinois Ammunition Sales:

  • FOID cards AND State photo ID should be uploaded during or before placing your order online. You may also submit by email – support@freedommunitions.com (IMPORTANT: You must enter your order number in the email subject line) It is your responsibility to follow up with Freedom Munitions to make sure we have received your information.
  • These MUST be current, valid, & completely legible.
  • Orders will be held for 10 days and then cancelled if proper documents are not submitted to and received by Freedom Munitions.
  • Ammo can only be shipped to an address on one of those two documents.
  • FFL Dealers must provide a copy of their FFL to support@freedommunitions.com to be added to the FFL Finder.

They only option from them was their brand. It sounds like they have expanded. If you search around a bit, it's not hard to find horror stories out there.

+1 on that.  I ordered a bunch of .223 from them and when firing it out of an AR, it was keyholing badly.

The bullets were tumbling immediately when exiting the barrel, probably due to low pressure.

I was surprised the gun didn't jam or have any other malfunctions.

Never had that issue with any other ammo, including some older Freedom stuff, which probably happened to be made right.

Hi ChangeLogg,

Would like to submit another Chicago-OK ammunition retailer: AE Ammo https://www.aeammo.com/

Someone from the company is very active on Reddit, specifically r/gundeals and after stating that IL shipments are OK but Chicago is not, another user and I provided some background information. Specifically, that the old ordinance prohibiting ammunition sales (O2013-6015/MCC 8-20-100(b)) was repealed. I also brought up that in  MCC 4-144-710 a city license is required to sell ammunition, however this portion is located in the business regulations and includes provisions about inspection by various city departments, which can only reasonably refer to businesses located within city limits.

AEAmmo responded stating they've lifted the ban on ammunition sales to the City of Chicago. They are competitively priced, ship fast, and receive lots of great feedback on Reddit.

Thanks,

wanna add another seller wildhorseammunition.com
Ordered from them twice (1500rd of 5.56) , not only they ship to Chicago BUT they ship REGARDLESS of the address on your FOID! Yep, my foid and my driver license having the same old address but i provide them my new updated address and told them that i didnt updated my foid/dl yet - they said all good. And i received my ammo to my new address that don't match foid.

Spoke with this seller on r/gundeals before and he modified his shipping policy a little while back. Very nice guy

Thank you alco0203 and sin. I've added AE Ammo and Wild Horse Ammunition.

I've also included legal references so everyone can reference the legality of shipping ammunition to Chicago.

Please post any legal updates so I can edit the first post accordingly.

The retailers below are confirmed or have been reported to me as willing to ship ammunition directly to addresses within the City of Chicago (zip code beginning with 606##).

Feel free to post any retailers who have shipped or willing to ship ammunition to addresses within the City of Chicago (zip code 606##).

I'll continue to update the list below with the most current retailers mentioned.

References to statute 430 ILCS 65/13.1 [https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/documents/043000650K13.1.htm], with the new Public Act 102-538 [https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/publicacts/fulltext.asp?Name=102-0538] is effective August 20, 2021.

This references the possession and transportation of ammunition by a holder of a valid FOID card. This is a requirement by ammunition sellers that buyers will have to provide proof of a valid FOID.

In the past, Chicago Ordinance O2013-6015 [https://chicago.councilmatic.org/legislation/o2013-6015] references Chicago Municipal Code 8-20-100(b) which read “No ammunition may be sold or otherwise transferred within the city, except through a licensed weapons dealer, or as otherwise allowed by this code.”

Currently, the Chicago Municipal Code 8-20-100 has been amended and no longer contains this language [https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/chicago/latest/chicago_il/0-0-0-2644532].
This was amended by Chicago Ordinance O2014-4271 on June 25, 2014, it removed the restriction to purchase ammunition within Municipal Code 8-20-100. [https://chicago.councilmatic.org/legislation/o2014-4271].

It looks like liberty ammunition's website has changed.
