The retailers listed below have been confirmed or reported to me as willing to ship ammo to addresses in the City of Chicago (zip codes starting with 606##).

Feel free to share any retailers that have shipped or are willing to ship ammo to Chicago (zip code 606##).

I’ll keep updating the list with the latest retailers mentioned.

At the bottom of this post, I’ve also included a legal rebuttal to common replies from vendors who give reasons for not shipping to Chicago.

If you have any problems, please bring this to my attention.

References to statute 430 ILCS 65/13.1 [https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/documents/043000650K13.1.htm], with the new Public Act 102-538 [https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/publicacts/fulltext.asp?Name=102-0538] is effective August 20, 2021. This references the possession and transportation of ammunition by a holder of a valid FOID card. This is a requirement by ammunition sellers that buyers will have to provide proof of a valid FOID.

In the past, Chicago Municipal Code 8-20-100(b) by way of Chicago Ordinance SO2013-6015 [https://chicityclerkelms.chicago.gov/Matter/?matterId=C86D1C2B-E00D-ED11-82E3-001DD80693B4] read “No ammunition may be sold or otherwise transferred within the city, except through a licensed weapons dealer, or as otherwise allowed by this code.”
CURRENTLY, the Chicago Municipal Code 8-20-100 has been amended as of June 25, 2014, and NO LONGER CONTAINS this language [https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/chicago/latest/chicago_il/0-0-0-2644532]. This removed the restriction to purchase ammunition within Municipal Code 8-20-100. [https://chicityclerkelms.chicago.gov/Matter/?matterId=410CA95A-E00D-ED11-82E3-001DD80698CB].

A big thank you to ChangeLogg for taking on the work of maintaining this list, and a  big thank you to McCroskey for starting it and keeping it going all these years.

The original thread is closed so we can keep the list in one place, but it can still be found here.

Tactical Defense Solutions has refused to ship ammo to my Chicago address in the past.

Thank you DocHoliday.

Tactical Defense Solutions moved to Lost Causes

https://www.tds-us.com/terms-conditions/

Their Terms and Conditions specifically state "Ammunition sales to the city of Chicago or Cook County must be shipped to an FFL. No exceptions."

I'm thinking this thread should be pinned and my old one de-pinned.

Strange about Steel City - stated policy on their website for ammo is:

  • Illinois— No sales to the city of Chicago or Cook County. All other Illinois residents must email us a copy of their FOID card in addition to their State ID. Ammunition must ship to an address on one of these ID’s.

Confirmed with phone call and verified it was not a typo. Steel City Ammunition does not ship to Chicago addresses.

Oh ok. That's weird, when I emailed them I got a response saying that they did.Screenshot_20220413-012522.thumb.png.d7708e04b00a921cf63cd6a3e6e3230f.png

Thank you HelloAll!!

I called Steel City Ammunition again to clarify their contradicting information on their website and the email above.

Their representative did not give a definitive answer if they will or will not ship to a Chicago address.

They seem receptive, and I will revisit to verify policy changes.

Thanks again!

Thank you for keeping this updated.  I have run into way to many places that wont ship to IL even though I am not in cook county.

+1 for rogers sporting goods though. They have been awesome.

You might try Brownells.  I don’t live in Chicago, but I do live in Crook County.  🙁

Midway won’t ship magazines, but Brownells does understand the law and will ship to Cook.  Ammo too.

Also Optics Planet is infamous for it's terrible track record. Even though they may technically ship to Chicago, they are known to receive payment for orders for ammo they claim to have in stock, only to NEVER ship the item. They'll email you with delay notices for months and months on end, Reddit is full of horror stories. I feel they should just be taken off the list. They're a bait trap.
