Blood-soaked streets

The masthead of the website IllinoisCarry.com states: "A website devoted to advancing your right to carry in Illinois."

Illinois is the only state that doesn't allow citizens to carry a concealed firearm in public. However, Illinois does have carry and conceal. It's just not legal.

Maybe the folks running that website should stroll down Chicago's mean streets after dusk on Saturday night to see how effective all those thousands of concealed firearms carried around by the local citizenry are in preventing violence. Somehow, I suspect those carry-and-conceal devotees would change their tune about the crime-fighting effectiveness of even more concealed firearms being carried around those blood-soaked streets.

Is this guy inferring that those carrying on the mean streets currently are otherwise law-abiding honor students with no intention of doing misdeeds?

Must be one of our anonymous site devotees.

Convicts have been interviewed and admit they prefer easy unarmed victims.

Great example is the gun free house cartoon. Which would you rather hit ?

Wow, this guy must not be firing on all cylinders...

If you check out his blog he is an avowed "progressive" so your observation is correct.

This guy sounds familiar. IIRC, he had a different blog a few years ago and was a Rich Miller sycophant. I went round and round on his blog.

I'm more concerned with Dodie Hofsteter who is the "editor" who picks which letter to print. She chooses 3 to 4 anti-gun / liberal letter for each pro gun / conservative letter. Since I pointed that out to he she hasn't printed any of mine.

Funny thing...of this guys 14 listed priorities I actually agree with three (Term limits for congress, overhaul the education system and rebuilding national infrastructure) goes so show you even someone who is diametrically opposed to your points of view can STILL have something in common. I have a feeling him and I might not see eye to eye on how to do two of those three things though.

In one of his older posts he actually appears to blame the bush tax cuts for the collapse of the economy.

Sadly, Congressman Roskam arrived in Congress in January, 2007, just when the Bush Administration's trillions of dollars in unneeded, undeserved tax cuts and elimination of sensible financial regulations tipped the US economy into the worst crash since the Great Depression of 1929.

I don't know what he does for a living, but it's clearly not rocket science :) . There are a few items I can agree with him on his wish list, but I don't expect him to come up with any good solutions on how to achieve them.

Rebuilding the national infrastructure is a code word for re-paving roads.

Are we still doing that?

It was supposed to kick start the economy and drive the whole nation into prosperity wasn't it?

Oddly enough one of the things that is an actual growth engine in this economy is the gun manufacturers !

I think this moron doesn't understand the difference between "criminal" and "law-abiding citizen". He somehow infers that because criminals use guns in Chicago, it must be the guns fault? Sounds like he can't even string two coherent sentences together.

Not like we're going to help them fix their broken arguments :)

I'm just always curious with people like this if they know they are lying, or if they actually think they are making sense.

Hint to manifesto writers (a/k/a bloggers): Please organize your demands for social justice into list form. Then ask yourself who appointed you the omnipotent decider over all matters you have listed.

Personally, I believe that you can pretty much split the Anti's into two basic groups.

Those that know the facts, history and the truth, but still spout the anti-rights garbage are the 'purposefull liars'. They know the truth but are still lying in your face. They deserve absolutely NO respect what-so-ever.

The other (far larger) group are those that have been lied to, and since the propaganda seemed to fit their feelings at that moment, or seemed to jive with what others in their lives had said, accepted the lies without checking the facts. These are the 'unintientional liars', usually used to inflate numbers cited by the purposefull liars (HCI, Brady bunch, VPC, LCAV, whatnot). The "Usefull Idiots" of the gun ban movement.

JMHO of course......

That guy is a left-wing total nut. I read his profile. What a FREAK! Interestingly enough, I think I went to high school w/ his daughter. I don't remember much about her except that she was good w/ the violin.

I really had a hard time with my reply because this guy is so far outside the mainstream. This is not one of my better efforts but I sent it anyway. I know it will never be printed anyway.

This is in response to the June 19th letter to the editor entitled "Blood Soaked Streets" by the gentleman from Glen Ellyn in which he states his opinion that it would be wrong for Illinois to join the other 49 states that allow law-abiding citizens the Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. I find it ironic that he talks about "blood soaked streets" when Illinois stands alone in two categories; the city with the most blood soaked streets and the only state that denies the right to keep and bear arms. I would like to point out the obvious fact that Chicago has some of the most restrictive firearms laws in the country yet criminals for some reason do not seem to obey those laws. Criminals by definition do not obey laws.

The letter writer takes the position that because criminals commit crimes with firearms, Illinois is justified in denying law abiding citizens their Second Amendment rights. Let me extend his logic to other rights. Because some people abuse their First Amendment right of free speech by practicing hate speech we are justified in prohibiting him from ever writing another letter to the editor and he must close down his blog forever. Religious fanatics attacked New York City and Washington DC killing thousands of people so the letter writer is now prohibited from practicing his chosen religion. By his logic these actions would be justified. Law abiding Americans should never be denied basic Constitutional rights because criminals abuse those rights.

The letter writer points out that Illinois stands alone in denying it's citizens the basic human right of self defense because otherwise we would have "blood soaked streets." Let me point out two truths:

1} If he did a bare minimum of research he would find that in every state that passed Right To Carry legislation the very same predictions were made. In every single case those predictions were proven to be false. Violent crime either went down or in the very least it stayed the same.

2} If he opens up the Chicago Tribune every Monday morning the streets are already soaked with blood and it is only getting worse.

Just today a federal district judge in struck down another portion of the onerous Chicago anti-gun laws in Gowder V Chicago saying: "The same Constitution that protects people’s right to bear arms prohibits this type of indiscriminate and arbitrary governmental regulation.” The Chicago anti-gun policies have proven to be a deadly failure and it is time to join the other 49 states in the 21st Century.

How in the world is B.O. going to spin this in his favor? At least there is one industry that is booming.

Forget the president, I want to see the spin those Brady liars put on it.

Well Dodie did a little editing and did post it on the online edition only.

Right to bear arms
