Call To Action

It worked so well last week, let's work on the online witness slips again!! This time, let's hit all the House committees with bills that pertain to our issues. I'll borrow Mauserme's list below and note "Proponent" in green to indicate support for that bill and "Opponent" to indicate opposition to the bill.

Here's a reminder on the procedure:

Go here, then > Hearings> "Committee Name">"Date of Hearing" > "time of hearing" > "locate bill number"> create slip. This brings up the digital slip. Fill out all fields indicated with a red star. You can put "none" for Agency/Title or any others that don't apply. You'll want to check "Record of Appearance Only" at the bottom. Copy the security text at the bottom, I think it is case sensitive. Click "create witness slip". Click "Yes".

Remember, we've determined that calls by non-Chicago residents to the Chicago reps on the committee are not helping our cause. If anything they may be hurting us. If your rep is on the committee, then you have every right in the world to call them and express your opinion. But, for right now, if your rep is not a member of the committee, let's confine our efforts to the Witness Slips.

Please, do not fill out slips with inaccurate information. Bogus names, addresses, etc. will not be veiwed favorably by the committee. If you don't feel strongly enough about these issues to use your real contact info, then don't fill out a slip at all. Any of the fields that are required but don't apply can be filled with DNA or N/A or None.

I've not indicated a position on some of the Wildlife bills in the AG committee. If you read them, have a position and want to file a slip, that's your choice. One exception would be HB5100, Wildlife Case Definition. That has a direct effect on the transportation of ALL firearms in this state and I feel should fall under our interest.

We'll not file slips on the shell bills until they are amended with something of substance.

AG committee meets Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. so tonight is not too early to start! Let's show them that we are watching, we understand what's being filed and we care!!

Yep, you're right!! I edited the post. I'm still doing some tonight and the system seems to be working fine and accepting the security codes better than last time.

Thanks Mauser!!

WOW!

Got them done but it was a task. "Autofill" seemed to work on about half of them. I hate the caprica code requirement

Yeah, but just think of the look on the chairman's face when he/she sees that stack of paper!!!!

Priceless!!

I emailed ISRA for their rational opposing HB5571 carry for Realtors and the reason was it specified 40 hours of training instead of a more reasonable 5-8 hours. It would take a new thread to list the threats (human and animal) I've faced entering vacant, foreclosed homes in Chicago and suburbs. My rep Karen May (Highland Park) could care less.

BTW, I'm in favor of carry for ALL IL residents, not special treatment, but I will say that agents who work distressed properties are in a similar boat as locksmiths when it comes to encountering hostile homeowners or "vacant" homes with squatters or raccoons inside.

Autofill does make it a snap!

I'd love to see the numbers on these witness slips and be able to release them when a legislator says "we don't feel our constituents support/oppose this measure".

Great Job so far guys!! Keep up the good work!

And RECarry, First of all welcome to the forum.

Yes, ISRA and the NRA oppose 5571 for that very reason. Creating another "special" class of people that can carry is counterproductive. And setting the training requirements at that high level would set another precedent for any carry bill we might try to pass. That 40 hours is the same firearm course that law enforcement must take. The difference being that they put themselves in harm's way, seek out bad guys, and are paid to do so. As a civilian who carries a firearm, my only goal is to defend my family and myself if confronted by bad guys, not to seek them out and arrest them.

Big difference.

I'm sure your experiences as a RE agent are chilling. My wife worked in the office of an RE agent that spent time in Decatur. That was chilling enough.

Thanks for the welcome. The witness slips are a welcome change from emailing Karen May (D-North Shore) and her condescending attitude.

I did all the witness slips. A suggestion everyone should do HB5745 Concealed Carry first. It does take a little time to get through them all. Some folks might go through the list from the top and not get to doing a witness slip for HB5745 since it is 8th on the list. It took me about an hour to do the entire list. For those that have say only 15 minutes maybe everyone could start on HB5745 at the Agriculture Committee and then 3 or 4 more based on the first letter of your last name maybe say A thru I , J thru O, and P thru Z. That way bills at the end of the list wouldn't get missed by those not having time to do the entire list. Folks could start at the grouping starting with their last name and if they finish this one go to the next grouping, if you in P thru Z go to A thru I if you finish your group.

Dividing into 3 or 4 groups would get more people involved and everyone doing it could get the entire list in 3 or 4 days, spending 15 minutes or so a day.

The committees are listed in the order in which they will meet this week. Starting at the top of the list insures that the earliest meetings will get done before they meet. I simply jotted down a list of the bills and did them in about 3 separate sessions. I personally prefer to make sure that I get the Opposition slips done first so that I'm sure they're done. The good bills will probably get out of AG, but a stack of slips will make an impression on the few antis there are on the committee and in the audience.

Thanks for taking the time to file them all!!

As a suggestion (and pending Tim's approval) I would suggest that you copy and paste Tim's first post into an email and send it to every Illinois resident in your email address book and urge them to respond with witness slips and also to forward that same message to every Illinois resident in their address books.

You want to see "smoke" turn into an "inferno"?

Then fan the flames

I just sent it out to three different email groups I belong to, the vast majority of the recepients are in Illinois (actually I think all are if you include snoiwbirds) and the total recepients are just over 2,000 addressees.

I am getting hammered by "I will!" responses
