Ranger Posted December 13, 2023 at 02:53 PM Posted December 13, 2023 at 02:53 PM My wife took the CCW 16 hour training class about 5 years and 2 months ago. She had never applied. It was just one of those "need to do when we get around to it" things. We finally sat down at the computer the other day to apply for her CCW and it was rejected. We finally figured out that the original certificate says good for 5 years. ... Hadn't even thought about it expiring... Does she have to take the entire 16 hour class again or ?
THE KING Posted December 13, 2023 at 03:38 PM Posted December 13, 2023 at 03:38 PM The training certificates do not expire. I have never seen a certificate that says it expires in 5 years.
Quiet Observer Posted December 13, 2023 at 04:06 PM Posted December 13, 2023 at 04:06 PM I looked at my copy of my original certificate from 2013. There is no expiration date on it. Nor is there one on the 2018 renewal certificate. There is nothing in the text of the law that says the certificate expires. There is a statement that requires instructors to keep records of each student for 5 years. IL Firearm Applicant Portal (ispfsb.com) I thought that the ISP provided the certificates to the instructors. It seems that the ISP should tell you why it a certificate is rejected. Could it have been a bootleg instructor? All guesses on my part, I have only been a trainee.
Molly B. Posted December 13, 2023 at 05:36 PM Posted December 13, 2023 at 05:36 PM It's possible the certificate is on an old template? What is the date at the bottom right corner?
Ranger Posted December 13, 2023 at 07:25 PM Author Posted December 13, 2023 at 07:25 PM Thanks all! I will take another look at it when we get home.
John Q Public Posted December 13, 2023 at 07:40 PM Posted December 13, 2023 at 07:40 PM If the instructor is still around, you can have them issue an updated cert with the original information. If not, you are stuck doing the training again, the ISP will not let you use the older cert, and only the original instructor may reissue.
Ranger Posted December 14, 2023 at 12:51 AM Author Posted December 14, 2023 at 12:51 AM Well... We just dug out the certificate again and it does not have an expiration date on it so... My wife and I discussed. I think it was the website that rejected it because it was too old (April 14, 2018). We went ahead and just submitted for her FOID renewal. Should we try to apply again for the CCW now or wait until FOID approved or ?
Ranger Posted December 14, 2023 at 12:52 AM Author Posted December 14, 2023 at 12:52 AM Instructor still around; but no longer doing CCW classes. His former partner is; but not sure if that helps.
Ranger Posted December 14, 2023 at 05:10 PM Author Posted December 14, 2023 at 05:10 PM OK... I'm in the ISP site now. It won't accept my wife's training date. Just keeps blanking it out and coming back to it when I hit save or next. Advice?
John Q Public Posted December 14, 2023 at 05:46 PM Posted December 14, 2023 at 05:46 PM Try logging out and using another form if cell then try a laptop or something. If they put in a date barrier, it's the first I heard of it and there has been no change in the law, so they would have done this on their own, which is not allowed. If that's the case, we need to get Val on it to see whjy this was done and where it came from. JQ
Smallbore Posted December 14, 2023 at 06:26 PM Posted December 14, 2023 at 06:26 PM The current 16 hour certificate format was created in March 2018. All earlier certificates are not accepted. Hopefully your original instructor's partner will issue you an updated certificate.
John Q Public Posted December 14, 2023 at 07:33 PM Posted December 14, 2023 at 07:33 PM @SB We still need to find out why it's rejecting the date on the ISP sight. If this was and old cert issue, it would take it and the ISP would view then reject. Here, they are saying it is rejecting the date of training as in it's to old. @Ranger Be sure you are on the original 16hr application and not a renewal.
Smallbore Posted December 15, 2023 at 03:01 AM Posted December 15, 2023 at 03:01 AM Don't know either but software can easily recognize the wrong format or even just the form's revision date.
Ranger Posted December 15, 2023 at 03:33 PM Author Posted December 15, 2023 at 03:33 PM I've texted the instructor asking for a new certificate. If he doesn't respond soon, I'll text his partner (who is still doing classes). Thanks everyone!
Ranger Posted December 15, 2023 at 06:54 PM Author Posted December 15, 2023 at 06:54 PM Instructor will provide new certificate. All good.
John Q Public Posted December 15, 2023 at 09:00 PM Posted December 15, 2023 at 09:00 PM Great, unless the system was changed to a time frame. Let us know! JQ
captdan Posted December 15, 2023 at 09:37 PM Posted December 15, 2023 at 09:37 PM Be advised your ccl application will be stuck in the Q as it will not move until FOID has been approved.
Ranger Posted December 16, 2023 at 10:46 PM Author Posted December 16, 2023 at 10:46 PM Understood. She's gone 5+ years so a few more weeks hopefully won't matter (although one never knows!).
Ranger Posted January 5, 2024 at 04:23 PM Author Posted January 5, 2024 at 04:23 PM Received the new certificate from her instructor and the ISP website accepted so now just waiting. Thanks to everyone for your help!
John Q Public Posted January 5, 2024 at 06:23 PM Posted January 5, 2024 at 06:23 PM Glad we could help!
Rockdiver Posted February 2, 2024 at 12:11 AM Posted February 2, 2024 at 12:11 AM Molly, John, Is there a number or email contact as ISP to request the new templates for course certificates? Respectfully, Rocco

John Q Public Posted February 2, 2024 at 06:39 PM Posted February 2, 2024 at 06:39 PM You get them okay Rock? They used to have them online to download. I see no reason not to heave them for current instructors on login....
