Does any one know what has been added to Chicago's AWB

I am checkig to see if anyone has seen a copy of the new proposed Chicago AWB, and which weapons were included that were not in the 1994 AWB? I have already called my Alderman and asked him to vote NO to any AWB, and urged all Chicago friends in my email bank to do the same.

Of all the blatant nose-thumbing of court rulings and state laws by Chicago, putting a handgun ban in there has to be one of the dumbest.

Question to the legal experts here.

If the CPD arrest you and you are charged under a Chicago gun law which violates state law does that open Chicago up to a 1983 lawsuit? In effect you are denying someone a civil right in violation of both state law and a court ruling.

Are semi-auto .22 rifles banned by this? Does anyone know when the ordinance takes effect?

ETA: I know I could probably look this up I just haven't had a free minute yet. Thanks.

Looking at paper from the meeting yesterday:

ANY semi-auto rifle regardless of caliber with one or more of these (6) features

Folding, detachable, telescoping stock

Handgun grip

Forward grip

Threaded barrel

Grenade, flare or rocket launcher

Barrel shroud

Any semiautomatic rifle with a fixed magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds, except for an attached tubular device capable of firing .22 rim fire only

A semiautomatic version of any automatic rifle

It goes on... Specifically naming as prohibited; All AK and AR types, Ruger Mini 14 tactical M-14/29CF, all Thompson rifles and a whole bunch of rifles I am not familiar with.

It's a pretty short must read.

so it looks like ruger 10/22 are ok by these definitions?

Thanks Soundguy, I just read it.

Anyone know what they mean by "forward grip"?

A "forward grip" means a grip located forward of the trigger that functions as a

handgun grip. A "handgun grip" means a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other part, feature or

characteristic that can function as a grip.

I would assume a typical forward grip

Funny, if you strip out unnecessary words their definition of a forward grip is a grip that is a grip that functions as a grip. a grip is then further defined as any grip that can function as a grip

Common sense, liberty, freedom and the Constitution have also been added to the ban.

Actually I think I should have used black instead of purple text.

While I'm not in Chicago, my concern would be the language where it says any semi auto rifle version modeled after a full auto. Most AR's would fall into that category even if it meet the other requirements. Kind of a back handed way to restrict it even more.

That was my reading of it as well: a handgun grip is a grip that can function as a grip. Come on!

so if we make it an ATF-certified pistol by removing the stock, then we can include all those extremely dangerous parts like threaded barrels? won't someone think of the children?

It would also have to fit the IL definition of handgun. IE no forward grip or anything to grab onto with your other hand, by my understanding

This is what I could see from the changes:

-Added AR/AK style handguns to the banned assault weapons list

- Parts of assault weapons that can be assembled are also banned (i imagine this includes uppers, lowers, collapsible stocks, etc)

-Reclassified "evil features" on rifles, and semi-auto shotties

-They removed the "unregisterable firearms" ordinance

-Banned .50 caliber rifles (the Barrett M82A1 is named)

-Banned SKS rifles (A semiautomatic rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds)

-They banned slide-fire stocks or anything that can increase the rate of fire of a semi auto rifle/shotgun

-Banned SBRs/SBS

-Refreshed the banned rifles list by adding new ones (SCAR, Bushmaster ACR, FNH FS2000, Saiga 12, etc)

-Removed the "12 round limit" from high capacity magazine definition and raised the limit to 15 rounds

-Removed any references to "Registered firearms"

-Banned extending capacities for a shotgun, via an extended magazine tube

-Removed any references to "piercing bullets"

SKS has a 10rd fixed mag. Not an "assault weapon" under current definitions.

However my 59/66 SKS has a fixed grenade launcher, effectively making it an "assault weapon"

This is how I read it as well. It bans some SKS rifles, but not all of them.

Obviously it's the "shoulder thing that goes up". These retards have no clue on how things work. It's disgusting to even call them representatives. Do you know that in Europe's anal gun retentive culture they have suppressors? It's considered a safety feature, you know so you don't get your eardrums blow out. Here is the infamous clip from a representative speaking about "clips" and "shoulder things that go up" http://youtu.be/ospNRk2uM3U
