Tvandermyde Posted July 1, 2013 at 09:53 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 09:53 PM Quinn to AV Carry bill 7/2/13 Governor Quinn is set to announce an amendatory veto of HB-183 tomorrow with fanfare at the Thompson Center. The Governor is rumored to be making several changes to the bill which would include: · Limiting individuals to carrying a single handgun with a single magazine and no more than 10 rounds of ammo. · Changing the definition to where the handgun must be completely concealed as opposed to concealed or mostly concealed · Banning carry in any place that serves alcohol except private clubs and residence. This would nullify the restaurant carry provisions of the bill. · Inverting the no carry posting to make carry permissible only in places that post it is OK to carry a concealed firearm · Allowing employers to ban firearms on their property and negate the safe harbor provisions. · Remove the ability of individuals to get out of their vehicle and store their handguns in the trunk of their vehicle Look for the Legislature to move to override the veto when they come back the 8th or 9th.
Don Gwinn Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:01 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:01 PM Great. I'll be in Kansas for the vote. I blame Quinn for that, too.
KingWalleye Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:02 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:02 PM Its almost seems like he likes getting his butt handed to him.
Patriots & Tyrants Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:04 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:04 PM Is Quinn insane ? I never thought I would say this but go get em Madigan.
Xwing Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:04 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:04 PM Thanks for the non-surprising news... I thought he'd throw a AWB in there for fun too though... I hope the veto-override is a ***-kicking!
Onytay Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:04 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:04 PM No supprise there, although if thats all its not as bad as I thought it would be.
RoadyRunner Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:04 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:04 PM Does not surprise me. In fact, one thing does. I expected him to AV out the preemption.
d38runner Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:05 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:05 PM Thanks for the update. Let's hope the ILGA overrides.
Dave D Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:09 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:09 PM Good times..... We'll see ya in court....
Skorpius Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:10 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:10 PM No worries, unless some of our tenuous "friends" decide to flip.
Lou Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:11 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:11 PM It almost seems like he is trying to lose the few southern Illinois Democratic votes he might need to win in the primary. Ya hafta wonder how much Speaker Madigan is promising him to make sure his daughter wins the primary??? Was he even awake Friday when 100,000 people booed him at the Hawk rally? Is he trying to become more unpopular?
cm.stites Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:15 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:15 PM What! No "AWB"?wouldnt put it past him to use 1189 for that
Chef Jeff Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:15 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:15 PM It almost seems like he is trying to lose the few southern Illinois Democratic votes he might need to win in the primary. Ya hafta wonder how much Speaker Madigan is promising him to make sure his daughter wins the primary??? Yeah, I had no idea he was in such a hurry to be the next former governor of Illinois. An AV ought to do the trick.
Rail Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:16 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:16 PM He bit off more than he can chew.
out in the tall grass Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:18 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:18 PM He's in a hurry to be the next former governor that isn't in prison. He wants out before the Feds catch on........
handyflyer Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:18 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:18 PM About freakin time!! Everyone knew this was coming. I'm giddy with excitement to see Jello get his hat handed to him July 9th.
Jason4567 Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:19 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:19 PM Quinn to AV Carry bill 7/2/13 Governor Quinn is set to announce an amendatory veto of HB-183 tomorrow with fanfare at the Thompson Center. Todd, any details on this? I don't think Quinn heard enough boos at the hawks rally.
madjack1564 Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:22 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:22 PM You really gotta wonder What the hey!!! he is thinking...he's gotta know they have the votes to override, if this is just for political show what is it accomplishing for him?
TFC Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:23 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:23 PM Thanks, Todd.No surprises here.Just be ready for the back room shenanigans that they're prone to.
RoadyRunner Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:25 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:25 PM It would be nice if a special session were called for 4pm tomorrow - to override the expected veto the very same day it was issued. Not likely, I know. Nice to think that it could though.
BixBix78 Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:27 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:27 PM Political theater hopefully all this bull will not cost someone their life when they need their ccw but do not have it because of the posturing for the 2014 election
LYU370 Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:37 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:37 PM I guess we'll see in a few days if it was all planned out in the first place, of if the House overwhelmingly overrides it. I won't be holding my breath though. Lived in Illinois/Crook County for way too long.
BikerNut Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:42 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:42 PM I guess we'll see in a few days if it was all planned out in the first place, of if the House overwhelmingly overrides it. I won't be holding my breath though. Lived in Illinois/Crook County for way too long. STILL live in Crook County. I won't be holding my breath either. They don't do aything without a plan. I wonder what is up their corrupt little sleeve.
JasonI Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:45 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:45 PM Quick question. What does the AV do to the SA's who have put out letter's allowing CC?
Don the Mon Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:46 PM Posted July 1, 2013 at 10:46 PM I think it's just a political move, Ouinn knowing that his veto will be over ruled, he won't upset his voter base.
