How many of you will start carrying (concealed hopefully) starting June 9th. In Chicago and cook? Just asking to develop an idea how much of us feel comfortable carrying after the deadline

If you don't have an illinois concealed carry permit, i wouldn't do it. Both Cook County and Chicago have laws already on the books to arrest you several times over. That arrest and conviction would prevent you from getting a concealed carry permit from illinois or any other State in the future.

Well here is my question, the 7th circuit said to craft a reasonable bill by June 9th. No bill shouldn't pass muster. So what's the odds of the 7th imposing a bill?

Once the stay is over and the courts rule, as far as i'm concerned there's no law to enforce. If there's no law to enforce, there's nothing stopping me.

And obviously, if the state law is unconstitutional, then so are any home rule laws that ban carry. I guess cops in those locals may still arrest people as cops have been arresting people on unconstitutional laws statewide for so long. The big question i guess is will cops begin to honor people's rights or continue to infringe them for that bit of weekly compensation they get.

Courts judge constitutionality of laws, they don't draft bills. Zero chance.

but won't those laws not be enforceable when the injunction from ca7 to the SA? Or only Illinois uuw/AUUW?

I think everyone will make his or her own decision on this matter. Part of the benefit of the concealed carry laws, is the criminals don't know who is or isn't carrying. Thus, keeping it a mystery is a good thing.

Here is my prediction:

There are a heck of a lot of good folks who have carried defensive guns for years. If the state fails to pass a good carry bill, there will be more folks carrying after June 9. When the state passes a good carry bill, there will be even more folks carrying. But even then ... that may only come to be roughly 5% of the law-abiding adult population. At least that is what things seem to settle out at in other states ... roughly 5% of adults with carry licenses (some more, some less).

0.0000%. That's not what the 7th said. Read the decision again.

The 7th found UUW and AUUW to be unconstitutional, put in place a permanent injunction against enforcement, and gave the state the courtesy of a 180 day stay on the injunction to allow them to put a reasonable carry bill in place. If they put a bill in place or not is the state's decision, but if they don't, their de facto ban on carrying becomes a de facto FOID carry for the state.

Personally no permit, no carry . If arrested loss of money to defend, possible loss of right to carry or own firearms in the future and damage to firearm or firearms . Have waited a long time for carry and can wait a little longer until things get ironed out legally.

Exactly. Folks are reading too much into the Moore decision.

I am sure there will be those people out there who go around and carry their AR strapped to their chest while taking their dog for a walk. I know this because the thought has crossed my mind  . These are the people that will get themselves in trouble. If you carry a concealed weapon and don't give the Police a reason to bother you, then you should be okay. If you are stopped by the Police and they find out that you have a firearm on you, then there is no law for them to enforce.

I won't cary without a permit or case law on the books. If FOID carry comes June 9th, I promise people will be getting arrested, and that's until all the little towns and villages start passing their own restrictions, because without preemption there is nothing to stop them from having their own restrictions. It'll be an absolute nightmare. No bill is better than a bad bill, but I still won't carry (immediately).

i think the big picture here is that some one needs to keep track of the crime rate after June 9th cause that will help a lot in the next carry bill. just think if the crime rate goes down by 10% because of court carry that would be grate. but you can bet your azz that Mcarthy will say he did it.

It's just sad that the people arrested after the 9th will most likely be our law abiding citizens who don't know the technicality behind this issue. I wish more people would come here for their education rather than the main stream media which will get them arrested.
