Is crime dropping due to the coronavirus?

With the warm weather, lots of people out on the West Side of Chicago yesterday around 4:30PM. Most people sitting on their porches keeping distance but there were a few basketball games going on. Almost seemed normal except for the masks (50%?).

Only crime I saw (around 3PM) was the 20 people on motorcycles screaming onto the 290 Eastbound at Oakley. Popping wheelies, flipping off the 3 CPD SUVs following them. Strange fun but what do I know.

Those darned Outlaws and their noisy Harley's.

Harley?

I’d like to see that wheelie.

They ain't what they used to be. Fuel injected, 6 gears, 4 valves per cylinder, and a torque peak that feels just above idle. I'd consider a new Road King if they were $2000

Also, I'd say crime is up due to all the new social distance/stay at home laws being broken.

A man on house arrest for carrying a gun without a license allegedly shot and killed a 15-year-old boy who lived across the street from his Lawndale home, Cook County prosecutors say.
Dequawn Little, 21, was allegedly close enough to his electronic monitoring box, located in the dining room of the house, that he didn’t trigger a violation, according to a bond proffer prepared by the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.
Florida:
On March 19, a drug suspect with a lengthy rap sheet was released as part of Hillsborough County’s efforts to thin out the jail population amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. One day later, deputies say, he committed murder.

There seems to be a new boldness for breakung into homes during a time now where most people might be expected to be at home.

A person was reportedly shot in Neptune Beach, Florida, on April 14, after allegedly breaking into a home. The home’s doorbell camera captured audio of the suspected break-in, and police are searching for suspects.

In the video, a hooded man can be seen repeatedly rushing the front door, eventually getting through, followed by two others. Gunshots can be heard and the three suspects run from the home.

The Neptune Beach Police tweeted on their official Twitter account that they have been searching for suspects and urged the public to provide any information to the police tip-line.
