This will work great as long as everyone remembers to check Mauser's thread for calls to action, etc. Thanks TyGuy, let's put it on a test run and see how it works.

Not a bad idea. I've got a busy day at work today, another 12 hour day, and very little time to check in on things. If we keep Mauserme's thread clean of anything but updates, that'll help me out quite a bit!!

I got yelled at for doing this a month or so ago.......

Goes to show that this forum is highly biased towards people with high post counts and biased against new people. (This should change because it does turn off people)

No bother, I am in it to win it as a group. :)

I still like the idea and glad it was given an offical "thumb up" to try out.

I'm sorry to hear that StreuB1. IDK why that happened, and if the IC mods want to shut this down then they can. I was just trying to help keep Mauser's thread as clean as possible cause so many people
whined moaned cried
complained about it.

:flowers:

and I don't think my post count has anything to do with it. I like to post here, so I have a high count. I don't get any special privelleges for having a high post count.

I don't understand why they don't make Mauserme a mod so he can keep the ILGA threads on lockdown that way he is the only one that can post the important updates and keep it clean. That way we can all chatter away here without making it difficult for the others to catch up at the end of the day.

Why not just use the livestream chat room?

As another newbie, I think there's another way to look at this, Steub. You saw what was happening first, and while you met initial resistence to change something that hadn't been a problem before, once you pointed it out, others started seeing it, too. Any time there is a sudden, relatively large influx of new posters on a board of ANY kind, it causes changes in dynamics that may take a while to be recognized and adjusted for. Patience, all around, is a good thing. :)

+1

IDK about others, but I can't use the livestream chat, and I like it here. The water is warm, the beer is cold, and the friends are great.

Today starts at 1pm right? Then I a sure they will go to caucus .

If you're in the east coast. Supposed to convene at noon, but with a caucus it will probably be closer to the 1pm start time. I think it's hilarious when Bost right off the bat asks for an immediate republican caucus. The sighs and groans from the dems is music to my ears.

I just hope there's absences on their side and none on ours. We don't need any absent today, I'm sure they all know how important it is though.

If they followed the normal process of adding amendments in committees then the Rs wouldn't need to caucus right off the bat everyday. They shouldn't grown, it's their leadership that's causing the problem.

There seems to be some nutballs on the blueroomstream chat. People who have no idea how this works, and it's a lot less civlized. I like it here because most of us know what's going on, the "rules", etc., and analyze things instead of just shouting.

No biggie!! Like I said, I am in it to win it as a GROUP. It is all for one here baby! :D

And, it is due to post count. I am a 17year veteran to online forums. I know the flow, its all good. Its almost as bad as car forums lol. Just less whining. ;)

Oh I agree that new ideas and an influx of people upset the dynamic. I am used to it; been there done that. I'm not butthurt over it. I really really like this forum and don't see myself leaving. I am on it more than any other forum I belong to and that says alot about you guys. In my eyes at least. lol

This is a collaborative effort and we have a mission. We ain't got's no time for no cryin or emotionzzzzzz!!!!!!

I apologize if you thought I was "yelling" at you. I was hoping it was received as friendly advice, but I evidently failed miserably.

In ANY group, it takes a little time until the "new guy" is accepted, and it takes a little time for the new guy to learn how the group operates.

You're right, some people place too high a value on post counts. I place value on the content of their posts. Having read most of your 500+ posts, I am very glad you are a member here.

I don't really feel it's needed or necessary. As Abolt has pointed out, the similarity in the title could confuse people - and we don't need people missing out on Action Alerts.

I mean, come on people!! There's a time for work and a time for fun. There's also a place for seriousness and a place for laughs and levity. Furthermore, it's not like if someone got off topic in one of the General Assembly threads that they were banned from posting here ever again.

The problem is we can't allow General Assembly threads to turn into a gab fest and run up a post count of eight-hundred seventy four posts like it did on 3/13/2013. Even the minister cracks a joke in Church from time to time. But that doesn't mean everyone can turn to their spouse or neighbor in the pew and start rattling away like church is over.

Can't we act like adults and recognize that this is a serious topic about keeping tabs on our politicians? I surely hope most of the clowning around is frowned upon at the range when you're shooting. And this is no different. If we can't stop the gabfest from going on while these people in Springfield are passing laws, then I'm afraid we're just going to lose our rights to shoot anything.

Leave the laughs and the jokes and the unnecessary comments in the other threads. They don't allow a lot of shenanigans in the gallery overlooking the house chambers in Springfield. And this should be no different. Or doesn't that make any sense? And if you must joke around, save it until they are hazing a new Rep or Senator when THEY are fooling around.

This is serious business folks. it should be treated as such. I'm sorry Ty. I don't think we need a rumpus room for General Assembly discussion. If someone has a question - by all means ask it! But if you're posting a comment just to let people know you're there - it's not needed. We can see who's following along at the bottom of the page.

And there's no shame in putting forth new ideas, Ty!! Points for trying!!

Posted
See I disagree. I like, and I think many others do too, the discussion light hearted or not. If the discussion isn't wanted on Mauser's thread then we'll do it here. If a mod wants to close the topic then fine, but we'll migrate back to the daily legislation thread. We'll have to disagree on this until a mod wants to a decision.

Until someone on the leadership team of Illinoiscarry makes a decision about where live discussion should take place, how much will be allowed, and whatnot I'll keep posting these discussion threads. There's a lack of consenus on this issue across the board, and until the powers that be make a final decision on it I'll take the reigns and lead. I'd rather do that and be told to stop later. Either way is gonna upset people.

1) We post discussion in Mauser's thread and people wanting a concise recap of events get upset.

2) We post discussion here and people that agree with Buzzard get upset.

I don't have a great answer that fixes both problems right now, and I am open to improvements, but until IC gives us direction I like the idea of having two threads - one for a call to arms / recap, and one for live discussion of the house floor.

Perhaps changing the name of this thread would make Buzzard happy? "Live Discussion of IL House - 2013-03-19" or something similar?
