Duck888 Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:15 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:15 AM I just wanted to say thank you to the Illinois State Police for making this license process as painless as possible. Even though I haven't physically received my license yet, the application process has been relatively easy and seeing the word approved under my name ahead of schedule was a pleasant surprise to see today. Can we get a round of applause?
Mr. Fife Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:21 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:21 AM No. I'm not thanking anyone until I have the license in my hands. I'm not getting fooled again.

Thomas Redmond Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:23 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:23 AM Thank you Judge Posner who made this all possible. The PoPo did a good job on there website also but they did have a lot of money to play with.
GT1 Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:28 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:28 AM I'll think on it, after I have the card in hand.
Bud Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:39 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:39 AM all the State police did was complete the process that was foirst ordered by the Court and then (reluctantly) put into law by the State Legislature. None of the people involved in that first line deserve any thanks. You want to offer thanks? Thank Otis McDonald and Mary Shepard for standing up for all of us. Thank Valinda and Mike Rowe and the Board of Illinois Carry, thank Todd Vandermyde who was the general and then thank every single person who ever marched at IGOLD, filed a witness slip, wrote an op-ed, sponsored a town hall or called their State Representative. And then take a moment and remember the countless victims of robbery, burglary, rape and even murder who were denied their rights by the corrupt bureaucrats who make up the illinois government

But if you could see through the cloud you would see that the ISP has done a pretty darn good job of doing the job they were given. They do not make the laws, they just enforce them. Reading that Todd and Valinda have been working with them and are happy with the process is enough for me. Thanks again!
Lou Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:59 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:59 AM I will gives a big thanks too if/when my permit shows up in my mailbox. As Bud says, the state did nothing they were not forced to do by the courts. Ever wonder who found Mr. McDonald and hooked him up with lawyers who would take his case all the way to SCOTUS? Ever wonder who took Mary Shepherd and her terrible story and turned it into a positive by hooking her up with someone who would would take her case all the way to the Seventh Circuit? The person who did that is our very own Valinda Rowe with the support of her husband Mike. She could not have done they without the support of the dedicated patriots of Illinos Carry. The day I have my license in my pocket and my Glovk on my hip is the day I send in yet another contribution to Illinos Carry Inc.
StreuB1 Posted March 1, 2014 at 04:07 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 04:07 AM I was approved today also. I would love nothing more than to make it to iGold and shake the hands of those on the big end of this stick and take a picture with them and my card. :-)

WillT Posted March 1, 2014 at 04:32 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 04:32 AM I'd like to thank Tom Dart for giving me headaches, ulcers, and general malaise. Thanks Tommy!

Dr. Rat Posted March 1, 2014 at 04:41 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 04:41 AM There be some stubborn people here on this forum. Well, you know, some of them think they could have implemented this faster and better with just a calculator, a dot matrix printer, and the fire in their bellies that god gave them. If only the ISP hadn't been constantly delaying just to...well, we never really get a good answer as to why they would do that. I agree with you. Thanks to the ISP for pretty damn good rollout.
WtJen Posted March 1, 2014 at 04:46 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 04:46 AM Thank the ISP who continued to enforce an unconstitutional law even after the courts and the legislature had spoken on the matter? Not in this lifetime.

Elderberry Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:06 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:06 AM Look, I appreciate the job the ISP did. A lot of people worked really hard and did a good job -- just as I expected such a professional organization to do. And if you look back at my posts I expressed confidence in them all along. I supported them and defended them when many others were offering other words. They have a lot of good people. But the organization didn't campaign for years to pass this law. They didn't hold a single rally. They didn't march a single march. Or write the letters and make the phone calls. They didn't fund or fight a single legal case. They simply did the job they are paid to do -- and did it well -- and I appreciate that.... But Bud and Lou are right....
Duck888 Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:07 AM Author Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:07 AM Thank the ISP who continued to enforce an unconstitutional law even after the courts and the legislature had spoken on the matter? Not in this lifetime. If I remember correctly, the ILGA. was given a certain amount of time to re-write the law. Which was appealed and extended more than it should have been. The Illinois State Police enforced the laws they were given.
Jefferson24 Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:08 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:08 AM On one hand I am glad it will not take the whole 90 days. On the other hand why did they have to reinvent the wheel? 49 other states have systems set up, most of those states actually use them. This didn't need to be from scratch. They could have added a endorsement to the FOID and knocked 6 months off. Glad the light at the end of the tunnel is almost here. Deep down I feel like my rights have been infringed upon and the courts agree. I don't feel like most of the legislators or state police took that seriously.
GlockShooter Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:19 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:19 AM In the end, I think they are just folks getting out of bed and going to work everyday. Those doing the dirty work are not the ones making the calls. YMMV.

Not in this lifetime. If I remember correctly, the ILGA. was given a certain amount of time to re-write the law. Which was appealed and extended more than it should have been. The Illinois State Police enforced the laws they were given. Yes, they did. Even when many county sheriff's didn't. And when many county SA's said they wouldn't prosecute anyone. Never loose sight of who the commander is. A political hack from Chicago, Anita Alvarez disciple and Quinn appointee....
Duck888 Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:23 AM Author Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:23 AM This thread is hopeless. All I am asking is for a kudos to the IL State Police. Not the ILGA or the hurdles Representave Phelps, and all of the other lobbyists that made this possible. Those people deserve a thread of their own and I know they have received it already. Can't we have a sincere thank you thread without it turning into a bitchfest?
Jefferson24 Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:33 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:33 AM There are a bunch of folks sitting out there waiting for a paper application because this system is not possible for them for one reason or another. I don't think we should consider this system a success until everyone is able to apply.
Elderberry Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:33 AM Posted March 1, 2014 at 05:33 AM Probably not. But I bet most around here would thank the individuals that did the work, if not the organization itself.... I would also bet both Molly and TV had some great contacts within the organization who worked hard to work with them rather than against them -- I'll bet most around here would thank them also. As Glock said, they are just people going to work everyday...
