Lou Posted March 1, 2011 at 07:27 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 07:27 PM Trbune Link SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan {AKA Mikey's daughter} says state police must release the name of everyone in the state who is authorized to own a gun. State police determine who gets a Firearm Owners Identification card, which allows people to own guns. The police have always kept the list private. But Madigan's public access counselor released a letter Monday night saying the information should be public. The Associated Press had requested the list of FOID cardholders but state police said that would violate the privacy of gun owners. The attorney general's office ruled that argument invalid. State police officials have not said whether they will comply with the ruling. There are Republican-sponsored bills in the Illinois House and Senate that would prohibit disclosure of the information.
Lou Posted March 1, 2011 at 07:46 PM Author Posted March 1, 2011 at 07:46 PM Link fixed. Thanks, I fixed it.
Bird76Mojo Posted March 1, 2011 at 07:55 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 07:55 PM How ignorant can one person be?
pyre400 Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:10 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:10 PM Do away with the foid and MADigan... This truly is absurd. Treating lawful gun owners like they are registered sex offenders!
GarandFan Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:10 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:10 PM Unless this issue is addressed in the FOID act (which I don't think it is) ... looks like Todd will soon have another bill to fast-track.
Lou Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:20 PM Author Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:20 PM Unless this issue is addressed in the FOID act (which I don't think it is) ... looks like Todd will soon have another bill to fast-track. It would appear that this is an endrun around HB0007: Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Provides that notwithstanding any other provision of law, the names and information of applicants or holders of a Firearm Owner's Identification ("FOID") Card are considered private and shall not be disclosed. Provides that no State or local law enforcement agency shall provide lists of information pertaining to FOID Card holders or applicants. Provides that a law enforcement agency may disclose whether an individual has or has not been issued, applied for, or denied a FOID Card in connection with a criminal investigation. Effective immediately.
Birdmang Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:21 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:21 PM Would this just be a giant list of names? No addresses? No cities? Chances are most peoples names will be on it unless you have a super uncommon name. It doesn't bother me, but it is wrong and i oppose it. Maybe someone can clarify what exactly the list would comprise of.
GarandFan Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:28 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:28 PM It doesn't bother me, but it is wrong and i oppose it. It's wrong, I oppose it, AND it bothers the heck out of me. Thanks for the heads-up on HB 7, Lou. Interesting. Yes, this order by Madigan might indeed be related to that bill. And this attention would certainly fast-track such a bill, as there is surely overwhelming support to keep FOID card holder information private. We know that gun registration is dangerous ... this goes to show that gun owner registration is also dangerous.
Jeffrey Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:30 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:30 PM Why doesn't she insist on a list of everyone that cannot own a gun. Those people are who should be watched and then point out how many of them are caught with one. It really is disturbing how these people can focus so hard on the law abiding and turn a cold shoulder on those breaking the law.
Bird76Mojo Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:35 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:35 PM In these hard times, this is a HUGE waste of taxpayer money. Things like this should never even make it to the table.

Lou Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:38 PM Author Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:38 PM The plot thickens. Anyone want to guess which bill is scheduled to be heard TOMORROW at 8 AM in the Judiciary I - Civil Law Committee???????
spec4 Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:40 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:40 PM Disgusting. What does she have to gain with this? Is it just more liberal nonsense, or is there a higher agenda here? This joke was never qualified for the office she holds (what else is new), the sheeple got her in because of her name. This seems unconstitutional as it invades a right to privacy.
Tvandermyde Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:45 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:45 PM We knew sge was gong this way and we are dragging it out to buy time to pass the bill
Tvandermyde Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:47 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:47 PM I just got asked to do don and roma at 6:05am tomorow

Its probably a personal attack due to a loss of power on another bill that may pass... Birdmang Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:50 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:50 PM The good that will come of her trying to pass this is that I know a lot of liberals that have foid cards, they will be completely against this and then madigan will lose some support.

She may have already lost some support - again why she's lashing out at those "eeevil gun owners".
waynes Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:56 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 08:56 PM Todd,Do any of the RTC bills have a provision for privacy?(Yes I did try to read them but got crosseyed after a while and decided to cut to the chase) Wayne
Sigma Posted March 1, 2011 at 09:06 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 09:06 PM I just got asked to do don and roma at 6:05am tomorow Good I will be listening, mention my name as the sexiest man from Illinois carry
DoYouFeelLucky Posted March 1, 2011 at 09:06 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 09:06 PM I'm all for releasing the list of names, as long as it's released without any filtering of the "left" people from the list. It could turn into hypocricy exposed.
gravyboy77 Posted March 1, 2011 at 09:40 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 09:40 PM My bro in law just called me and said he heard about this on the radio.
Buzzard Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:04 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:04 PM Oh my! I DO hope this doesn't wake the sleeping Fudds! You know how grumpy they get when woken from their sleep.
moparcardave Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:08 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:08 PM Would this just be a giant list of names? No addresses? No cities? Chances are most peoples names will be on it unless you have a super uncommon name. It doesn't bother me, but it is wrong and i oppose it. Maybe someone can clarify what exactly the list would comprise of. It bothers the heck out of me and I am living in Texas now. Think of it as one more brick taken out of our 2A rights in this country. Think of the elderly and disabled that keep a firearm for protection. This is like in nazi germany where they put a mark on a person and let the criminals and liberals know this person is an easy mark, like my 84 year old mom. It's a thiefs roadmap to where to obtain a weapon without buying one. It's letting the children of a parent know that wow dad has a gun cause he has a card and more problems. What about those out there that we know own guns, a heirloom passed down, a wife of a deceased spouse who has her husbands gun but just didn't do anything about it. Or the person that loves our freedom and will be darned if he will get a card because then somone will know he as a gun... What will happen here? Next step is offering rewards for turning in this criminal. Yes it does bother me and if it doesn't bother someone... well that worried the heck out of me. That's why Illinois is messed up like it is. WE, including myself stood by and said oh well this won't effect me...
lieut89 Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:30 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:30 PM Ms. Madigan needs to just offer up every licensed driver's information as well. It would only be fair.
Ashrak Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:42 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:42 PM Rahm gonna do the same thing in Chicago? This example is one thing wrong with permits in the fist place. No permit, no list, no problem. What Illinois should release is its wrongheaded and Unconstitutional stranglehold it has usurped over the enumerated individual right to keep and bear arms.

lieut89 Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:49 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:49 PM Thanks, looks like a fantastic spread! I just saw that channel 7 is about to run something at 5pm. I see this back-firing in the face of the AG. Any other outcome would be ridiculous!
abolt243 Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:52 PM Posted March 1, 2011 at 10:52 PM Todd,Do any of the RTC bills have a provision for privacy?(Yes I did try to read them but got crosseyed after a while and decided to cut to the chase) Wayne Section 65 of HB 148: Section 65. Privacy of permit holders and applicants.Except as provided in this Section, information on applicationsfor permits, names and addresses, or other identifyinginformation relating to permit holders shall be confidential, not subject to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, andshall not be made available except to law enforcement agencies. It helps to be cross-eyed to start with!! I believe that this same statment or something similar is included in every carry bill that is introduced, along with severability and immunity of Sheriff. This release of names has been fought in several other states, most notably Ohio where a newpaper wanted to release the names of all CCW holders. Nothing new, and if you doubted the liberal leanings of the main stream media, and they way they will play into the hands of the left, here's proof. This is Associated Press that is requesting this. And why do they need it?? Tell you what AP, rather than a list, how about we make open carry legal and you just look around and see who has a gun???? That work for you?? Again, to what purpose do they require a list of gun owners in IL?? Publish the list, make us targets for every thief that wants to lift a few weapons?? If this list comes out, security at the Abolt Ranch just got cranked up a notch or six!! This doesn't worry me, it just ***ses me off!!! Lisa baby just guaranteed that I will fight her bid for Governor with every fiber of my body!! AB
