Reaper Posted October 22, 2023 at 03:04 PM Posted October 22, 2023 at 03:04 PM If my Illinois CCW expires in June of 2024, when do I begin the renew process? Do I wait till June? Do I need to re-take the class? If I do need to take the class again, how long is the process, before I receive the new license? thanks
soundguy Posted October 22, 2023 at 03:53 PM Posted October 22, 2023 at 03:53 PM (edited) From recent memory: I believe you can begin renewal about 180 days before expiration. Mine expires in December/23 and I began renewal in June/23. ISP should send you an email and a letter letting you know you can renew. If it is too early to renew, the renewal tab won't be displayed on your ISP portal. You will need to take the 3 hour renewal class before you renew. You can get that out of the way before your renewal window begins. At renewal, you will pay the renewal fee ($153ish) and upload the certificate from your instructor and a new photo. Then you wait. ISP will notify you if there are any problems but, at least with mine, it seems they don't even look at the application for 60 days. Cheers, Tim Edited October 22, 2023 at 03:58 PM by soundguy

John Q Public Posted October 22, 2023 at 05:57 PM Posted October 22, 2023 at 05:57 PM I have found that some do not get the letter for whatever reason.
luckydawg13 Posted October 22, 2023 at 10:55 PM Posted October 22, 2023 at 10:55 PM If I renew my ccw before it expires but don't receive my new card until after it expires I'm I still able to carry

The current cards have no expiration date on them. Yet on the ISP website you can see I have been renewed and good to go till 2029. (My date was 2/2024 and was pleasantly pleased to see that my renewal date is 5 years from that.) Edited October 23, 2023 at 11:05 AM by bmyers Entered correct year
luckydawg13 Posted October 23, 2023 at 11:11 AM Posted October 23, 2023 at 11:11 AM Good last time I renewed early and lost a few months
rmart Posted October 23, 2023 at 11:46 AM Posted October 23, 2023 at 11:46 AM For the record, I started the renewal in September and was approved and notified my card was being sent in about 28 days.

I did receive the email below on 10/6, but I will have to check with wife to see if we received an letters. Your FOID or CCL application has recently changed status. While there is nothing for you to do at this time, if you would like to view the new status and a description of what it means, please visit the ISP FSB Applicant Portal I just checked on the website to see what it states about a card, so I may still end up getting a card in the mail, but they sent me a card a few months ago when they started the switch to the combined FOID/CCL.
