McCroskey Posted November 29, 2015 at 11:17 PM Author Posted November 29, 2015 at 11:17 PM Anyone have had any dealings with AmmunitionStore.com? It seems they're the only ones with decent enough prices for Federal Premium 9mm HST. I have not, however they are on the list of vendors who ship ammo to Chicago.
BigBubba Posted November 30, 2015 at 11:30 PM Posted November 30, 2015 at 11:30 PM I just placed an order with ammunitionstore.com and I live well inside Chicago. I'll post up when I hear anything. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
mikeyk101 Posted December 1, 2015 at 10:54 PM Posted December 1, 2015 at 10:54 PM Just a quick post giving 2 thumbs up to http://www.selwayarmory.com/ I placed an order with them for a bunch of ammo because they had some good prices including PMC .223 for $5.50 a box. I had created an account a while back but dont remember if I had to provide a copy of my foid. Anyway, I just received a notification that my order has shipped and to my Chicago address. I am very pleased and will use them again in the future.
McCroskey Posted December 2, 2015 at 06:34 PM Author Posted December 2, 2015 at 06:34 PM I've also ordered from Selway in the past and had a good experience. I like to use one of the ammo pricing engines and then compare the lowest price I find with the list here. Wikiarms is a pretty good one.
BerettaMan Posted December 2, 2015 at 08:01 PM Posted December 2, 2015 at 08:01 PM You have Brownell's on the list; however, their website says they won't ship to the zip codes beginning with 606. All of Chicago's zip codes begin with 606. Is this an example of the retailer just not updating their site or have they changed their mind?I just received my order from Brownell's. Here's how it went down. I signed into my Brownell's account and ordered online. I received an order number and a confirmation number. I few minutes later I received two emails that my order had been cancelled because I live in Chicago. I called Customer Service and was told the order had been cancelled because I didn't have the proper credentials in my account. I had to email them photos of my FOID and Driver's License. For some reason they would not accept a fax. A few days later I called back for a status report. They said they had gotten my credentials and could now take my order again. Unfortunately; part of what I had originally requested was now on back order. In the future; I will only order over phone with an order taker to make sure the order goes through. I don't trust an online computer to find those credentials in my profile and risk having the order cancelled and delayed.
McCroskey Posted December 3, 2015 at 07:14 PM Author Posted December 3, 2015 at 07:14 PM Yep, I think they are still working out some of the bugs... it was only recently they began processing sales to Chicago. My guess is they have a canned response that goes out if they reject someone with Chicago zip codes. Hopefully they'll get this cleared up eventually.

Billyboy1075 Posted December 6, 2015 at 04:25 PM Posted December 6, 2015 at 04:25 PM I live in Will County on the border of Cook and unfortunately according to my mailing address most online stores think I'm in Cook County and will not take my orders. I emailed midway to explain I was in Will County and got a reply from them saying they would update my address but when I tried ordering again it still wouldn't let me put the order in so I gave up on them. I found grab a gun.com online and put a order in on Monday Nov 30th for some 9mm and 12 g ammo. My order was deliver Wednesday December 2nd. i was impressed. Shipping is always 9.99 no matter how much you order. Plus they have pretty good pricing in their ammo and their firearms. I will definitely be doing business with them again.
Marie Posted December 6, 2015 at 11:00 PM Posted December 6, 2015 at 11:00 PM LAX Ammo https://www.laxammo.com will ship to Cook County (I've ordered several times). McCroskey Posted December 7, 2015 at 12:16 AM Author Posted December 7, 2015 at 12:16 AM Unfortunately grabagun does not ship ammo to Chicago. They will only ship your ammo order to a FFL, which is technically illegal, since the FOID act requires that ammo be shipped to the address either on your FOID or Driver's License/State ID. I guess you could ask the FFL to order it and resell it to you, but that's stupid and there are no FFLs in Chicago that I know of, anyway. LAX Ammo (unfortunately) also refuses to ship to Chicago. This is noted on their Terms of Service page.https://www.laxammo.com/terms-of-service

The backordered part of my Brownell's order is back in stock but the order showed online that it is being held. I called and was told that, once again, it was because I live in Chicago. I told them I had already sent in a copy of my FOID and Driver's License. They said obviously because I received part of the order. I was put on hold. When they came back they said the reminder of the order is now approved for shipping. I was right. All orders to Chicago are spit out by their computer and has to be looked up and processed individually by hand. Their computer does not automatically look into your account to find the FOID each time you order online or have a backorder.

So the process is, you place an order, it goes on hold (even if they already have your FOID) and you have to call them to tell them to ship it?
BerettaMan Posted December 12, 2015 at 05:09 AM Posted December 12, 2015 at 05:09 AM As I said; I suspect all Brownell's Chicago orders are pulled aside and each account is individually checked by hand looking for a copy of a FOID. If not found; the order is cancelled, like my first order before I submitted my FOID. If a FOID is found; then the order is approved for shipping. Maybe if I had waited before calling, the order would have eventually been approved. I am not going to be too critical of Brownell's because they are shipping to Chicago and they have a larger selection than most.

I emailed them the following I heard that if you live in Chicago this place will only ship the purchasers ammo to an FFL. Unfortunately shipping to address other than one listed on either the FOID or license or State ID is a violation of ILLINOIS state law as shown below. (b-5) Any resident may purchase ammunition from a person within or outside of Illinois if shipment is by United States mail or by a private express carrier authorized by federal law to ship ammunition. Any resident purchasing ammunition within or outside the State of Illinois must provide the seller with a copy of his or her valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card and either his or her Illinois driver's license or Illinois State Identification Card prior to the shipment of the ammunition. The ammunition may be shipped only to an address on either of those 2 documents. Below is the link to the entire law for context.http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/publicacts/98/098-0508.htm
borgranta Posted December 13, 2015 at 01:15 AM Posted December 13, 2015 at 01:15 AM This is the response I got Dear Grabagun Customer Support, Thank you for contacting us. Yes unfortunately for you city as well as some states we are only allowed to ship ammo to licensed dealers (FFL). Unfortunately you live in one of the areas where we can not ship straight to your house. If there is any other questions please let us know. Thanks, Zach :::a0S1600000NDa2REAT::: I then responded by naming the public act that they were violating and pasted the specific section that they were in violation of as well as the link to the entire act and ended the response by stating that I sent the message due to them being at risk of losing their FFL due to continually breaking state law.

aboughton Posted January 6, 2016 at 12:22 AM Posted January 6, 2016 at 12:22 AM Thought I would give Sportsman's Guide another try, they balked a year ago and continue to maintain a corporate policy of no ammo shipped to Chicago. McCroskey Posted January 7, 2016 at 03:50 PM Author Posted January 7, 2016 at 03:50 PM Thanks for the update. I think I'll add them to the "no go" list. It sounds like they know it is legal but have a corporate policy against selling here regardless.

It seems they're the only ones with decent enough prices for Federal Premium 9mm HST. I have not, however they are on the list of vendors who ship ammo to Chicago. OK. I'll give them a try in a few days time when I get paid. I actually don't live in Chicago anymore, but I'll ask if they do indeed ship there since there have been plenty of shops flip-flopping from what I've seen in this thread. I've ordered from ammunitionstore as well as tactical defense solutions in the past month or so and both were exceptionally easy to work with (along with having decent SD ammo in stock/delivered to chicago). Now if they only had free or reduced shipping codes...
aboughton Posted January 18, 2016 at 05:17 PM Posted January 18, 2016 at 05:17 PM Natchez Shooter Supply shows on our list of will ship to Chicago, but have balked per response below. Have followed up and will update status. "We do not accept the Chicago area due to state laws. Sorry for the problem"

Have followed up and will update status. "We do not accept the Chicago area due to state laws. Sorry for the problem" Their answer was short, sweet and DUMB! Go to Brownell's. Go online and register for an account number. Then email them a very clear and readable photo of your FOID and DL referencing your new account number. Wait a few days. Call and place your order on the phone, not online. Tell the order taker to check your account profile to make sure they have your documents on file. In a day or so you will get shipping information. Easy once you know the process.
