Bud Posted May 14, 2013 at 09:33 PM Posted May 14, 2013 at 09:33 PM As some of you know, I have an Illinois concealed carry permit as a retired cop. I have been very much involved in getting an Illinois concealed carry law passed for everyone because i believe, in my heart of hearts, that the Second Amendment applies to everyone. Not just special people identified by other special people, everyone. I have to admit, I get really upset every time i read one of you print something in favor of excluding Chicago or Cook County because was back in 1969, when i first became a cop, I was a witness to all the laws that now exist in illinois that makes all Illinois citizens second class. But they were directed at just one class of people by the original tyrant, Richard Daley.. How anyone cannot understand that all of this turmoil is being churned up to deny African-Americans living in Chicago their basic God given right to self-defense is beyond me. My own Republican Senator, Bivins, sold out to the Chicago machine and tried to carve out Chicago and Cook County and joined with Senator Raoul in derailing the vote on HB 997. I have inside information, please believe me on this, i have inside onformation. The people getting ready to pass a concealed carry bill are not talking to the NRA or the ISRA and they are getting ready to push through a bill that will not only exclude Chicago and Cook County, it will make the requirements for concealed carry so hard and so expensive, only the very elite and conncected people in the State will be able to carry. If they are able to ram this through and get away with it, don't think for a moment that all of the rest of the State is next because the Madigans, both senior and junior, own this State. As long as they continue to dictate to every politician in Illinois and force them to submit, then each and everyone of us have in effect, lost our citizenship and once again become subjects under the dictatorial rule of a despot. Please stop squabbling about whether or not to carve out Chicago because when you do, you splinter the effort and without a united front, we will lose. Tomorrow morning, please get on your phones and call every single State Sentor and Representative, regardless of where you live and politely asked the call rtaker to speak to the individual if possible, and if not, politely state that you will not accept any Bill that carves out an entire race of people just because of where they live and you will only accept a Shall issue law with State wide pre-emption. The politicians outside of Chicago and Cook County are getting ready to stab each and everyone of us, and liberty itself, right in the heart. Please get busy tomorrow morning and start fighting not for yourself but for all of us, each and everyone. Sendp out emails to every Illinois resident in your address book and ask them to get busy and help. Copy and paste my note and post it wherever you think it might do some good. We need a collective scream of rage to start and we need to do it right now because by Friday of this week, or at the latest, the end of this session in just two weeks, we may have a concealed carry law that will make you want to vomit. There is absolutely no time to discuss this, there is no more time. Now is the time to stand up because if we don't get this done now, there will be no other chances. Don't hesitate, don't even blink, get busy, start now, right now and generate as many phone calls tomorrow morning as possible and don't stop calling. Chicago and Cook County are not being thrown under the train, all of us are.

Bud Posted May 14, 2013 at 10:43 PM Author Posted May 14, 2013 at 10:43 PM We had a private even t at Buffalo Range today and I called Rep Phelps' Springfield office on the way home. I identified myself as a retired Police Chief from LaSalle County and asked to speak to him directly. He was unavailable. I explained the purpose of my call and how concerned I was about concealed carry and that i knew of a plan in the works to sell out Cook County and make the restrictions on the rest of the State so strict that very few people would even be able to afford to get a concealed carry permit. She assured me that she had not heard anything like that. I told her that i had and several of my friends who are also retired cops had and there was quite a bit of chatter going on about it on a west suburban retired cop mail server.that I am subscribed to and that there is sudden;ly a great deal of anger being expressed. I also told her it was my intention to actively support the rival of any politician that sells out the 2nd Amendment to the dictates of Mike madigan regardless of what their political party was and I was going to start that fight right now. I was very polite and expressed how angry I was with al,l Illinois politicians and it was time right now to do the moral and ethical right thing and not roll over and play dead because any politicians that sells us out will inherit a very hard fought campaign in 2014.
Jfl0 Posted May 14, 2013 at 11:08 PM Posted May 14, 2013 at 11:08 PM one state, one law, one nation. We all get our rights or we don't. All men (and women) are made equal.

2AFOREVER Posted May 14, 2013 at 11:34 PM Posted May 14, 2013 at 11:34 PM Thank you Bud. here is what i have been sending. Copy the letter/template if you want. As your constituent, I want to urge you to support a bill like Illinois HB 0997 "Shall-Issue" with no "Home-Rule" exemption. Other gun control proposals that have been introduced which would criminalize the private transfer of firearm, arbitrarily limit ammunition magazines or reinstate the failed ban on commonly owned semi-automatic rifles is just way too much to ask law abiding gun owners to give up. Even President Obama's experts say gun control policies won't work. Look at Chicago. # 1 again in murders for the United States. We already have the FOID system in place that goes "Above and Beyond" any other state with "Shall-Issue" for a through background check system that even uses the F.B.I.'s instant background check system. The one thing all of these misguided proposals have in common is they won't reduce crime. Criminals, by definition, are lawbreakers. They are not deterred by laws against murder, rape, armed robbery, etc., and they won’t be affected by additional gun control laws on top of the tens of thousands of existing laws we have on the books at every governmental level. My husband and I have FIRST hand experience with this living here in cook county. Again, I urge you to support a bill like Illinois HB 0997 "Shall-Issue" with no "Home-Rule" exemption. Any and all anti-gun legislation that will simply penalize law-abiding gun owners and instead focus on improvements to our nation’s mental health system and enhancing school security, while respecting our Second Amendment rights. The votes are almost there. What we can not allow is "Constitutional Carry" to set in because Cook County and Springfield can not come to a compromise. Please reply to me with your position on these measures. Your votes on these issues will be a major consideration in my future voting decisions.
Double-J Posted May 14, 2013 at 11:40 PM Posted May 14, 2013 at 11:40 PM Do we have an e-mail list and phone list of "downstate" Senators? If you have the latest edition of the "Illinois Shooter" from the ISRA they are all listed. So are the Reps. Maybe check the website if you aren't a member.
ilphil Posted May 15, 2013 at 12:34 AM Posted May 15, 2013 at 12:34 AM As a wise man said...your rights shouldn't be determined by your Zip Code! NO CARVE OUTS!!! NO BAD BILLS!!!

br1772453 Posted May 15, 2013 at 12:53 AM Posted May 15, 2013 at 12:53 AM You got it, Bud. Well said. All for naught if we are silent like sheep.
MINOOKAJOE Posted May 15, 2013 at 01:02 AM Posted May 15, 2013 at 01:02 AM One state one law . We stand united for the cause.
junglebob Posted May 15, 2013 at 01:14 AM Posted May 15, 2013 at 01:14 AM Do we have an e-mail list and phone list of "downstate" Senators? If you have the latest edition of the "Illinois Shooter" from the ISRA they are all listed. So are the Reps. Maybe check the website if you aren't a member.iI didn't find any list of reps or state senators on the website. Any place other than the Illinois General Assembly website at www.ilga.gov have a list of all the State Senators or reps with email addresses and phone numbers on one page? You can go to each name on the ilga.gov website and go to that rep or senators info but it would be quicker just to have a one page list of state senators and a one page list of reps. BTW, Newby folks don't call your Illinois U.S. Senators they couldn't help on this legislation if they wanted to. And I am sure neither would if they could. State Senators are the folks to call starting with your own.

With any luck at all, you can completely derail this thread and make sure any effort started here will have zero success and you can then swoop in and claim you were right all along! I seriously have to wean myself off this website.
