Molly B. Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:28 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:28 PM They Failed in the Senate - Now Gov. Quinn & Chicago Mayor EmanuelWill Attempt to Push Firearm BanThrough the IL House of Reps. Senate sponsors could not find the votes for HB815 and HB1263 before recessing for the weekend. However, that has not stopped Gov. Quinn and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel from trying to pass a Chicago-style gun ban during the lame duck session. The House will reconvene Sunday evening at 5 pm. and we expect a strong push to pass the gun ban and get it back to the Senate for vote before the deadline on Wed., Jan. 9.The bills will include banning most semi-auto handguns, rifles, and shotguns, plus restrictions on public shooting ranges that will close most if not all ranges in Illinois. What Can You Do To Stop This Assault On Your Rights? Keep the Phone Lines Hot! Please call your State Representative's Springfield and district offices over the weekend and urge them to oppose these outrageous attempts to infringe on our Second Amendment rights. We do not know which bill numbers they will use, but another alert will be sent as soon as we know and you will be asked to file a witness slip to voice your opposition in the committee hearing. 45superman Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:41 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:41 PM Rep. Acevedo has filed House Amendment #1 to SB 2899. "Assault weapons," .50 caliber firearms and ammo--with some kinda weird registration thingy, just for kicks.
WindyCityGuy Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:43 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:43 PM This is F'ing ridiculous. Putting calls in now. Will there be new witness slips??
cshipley92 Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:43 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:43 PM I've already called my Rep and spoke directly to him. He's on our side. I've made calls, sent emails, etc to Quinn, Emmanuel, and Madigan as well as many of the down states Democrats. I've been working off the list on the GA's website. When the bill numbers are know can we get an alert ASAP? I'll be at work until 5pm and have a 45 minute drive home so may have to stop and file witness slips from my phone. Thanks for all you do Molly.
45superman Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:47 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:47 PM When the bill numbers are know can we get an alert ASAP? I'll be at work until 5pm and have a 45 minute drive home so may have to stop and file witness slips from my phone. One of those bill numbers is SB 2899. Rep. Acevedo just filed an "assault weapon," .50 cal ban, registration amendment to it.
Capt_Destro Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:47 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:47 PM I've done all my writing, calling, faxing, emailing, and facebooking since 9:30 this morning.. What else could I do :S

Acevedo just filed an "assault weapon," .50 cal ban, registration amendment to it. I saw that right after I made my post. On it. Did a quick glance through. Seems they added a clause that the Senate bills didn't have in response to the question of how the State Police were going to pay for/ implement the registration requirements. Guess they felt they had to address that issue since it was brought up in the committee hearings on those two bills.
ming Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:53 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:53 PM Just called Emmanuel and Quinn. Had no problem getting connected to their offices. C'mon guys, let's keep those lines busy.
abolt243 Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:54 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:54 PM Todd will post very shortly. .45 Super caught that one, it is SB2899.

I still don't know what it means in (C-2) -if it bans all semiautos, why bother with the other criteria? I'm missing somethings on that, but this bill needs to go DOWN.
mauserme Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:56 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:56 PM I would love to see a fiscal note on this.
abolt243 Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:56 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:56 PM Before anyone asks, we can't post witness slips because the amendment is not posted to the system yet. Exec is scheduled for Sunday meeting, but the bill/amendment is not posted. We'll try to keep watch and alert when we can start the slips. We need to put at least 1000 slips on this thing.
cshipley92 Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:57 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 08:57 PM Just checked. SB2899 is assigned to the Judiciary I- Civil Law Committee Or that's where it's assigned now, before gutting it and rewriting it. Will it still be in that committee or can they assign it to another?
abolt243 Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:01 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:01 PM Just checked. SB2899 is assigned to the Judiciary I- Civil Law Committee Or that's where it's assigned now, before gutting it and rewriting it. Will it still be in that committee or can they assign it to another? Yep, the amendment is not listed nor are any of the bills listed on the witness slip site. Keep watch. thanks.

cshipley92 Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:09 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:09 PM Just spoke to my Rep's office. His staff said no bill had been filed yet and I gave her the number posted here. She looked it up and said yes it was just filed and she would be advising him of it.
XtremeRevolution Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:09 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:09 PM Can we file witness slips on that bill yet?
mauserme Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:10 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:10 PM Can we file witness slips on that bill yet? It's still in Civil Law. We can file opposition to the original bill there, but not the amendment.
Capt_Destro Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:10 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:10 PM We should also make it an effort to call and write the guy behind this... Representative Edward J. Acevedo (D) - Previous General Assembly (95th)2nd DistrictAssistant Majority Leader http://www.ilga.gov/images/members/%7B251C7010-7378-4919-AF20-6C216BC1AAC7%7D.jpg Springfield Office: 109 Capitol Springfield, IL 62706 (217) 782-2855 (217) 557-5148 FAX District Office: 2021 W. 35th St. Chicago, IL 60609 (773) 843-1200 (773) 843-9500 FAX
cherryriver Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:12 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:12 PM Already called the fellow. No answers at either number but left messages.Yes, the fiscal impact... how many tens of millions for legal fees to defend the law, then how many more to enlarge the Illinois State Police to anywhere near the level this would require?

Where did you go to file that? Could you provide a link. I looked and couldn't find where to file a witness slip on anything. I must be looking in the wrong place?

I was clicking to fast. But hopefully tomorrow they should have the amendment on there to sign.
cshipley92 Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:19 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:19 PM Anyone else think it's a bit weird they filed this now instead of waiting until Sunday when we would have less time to get our ducks in a row? Maybe hoping to distract us while they push for more votes in the Senate? Just wondering.
abolt243 Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:23 PM Posted January 4, 2013 at 09:23 PM Witness slips on the amendment are not available because the amendment has not been assigned to the committe that will hear it. It's in Rules right now and will be assigned to a sitting committee sometime soon.

I just called my former anti Senator again to let him know this new house bill is still unreasonable, unworkable and unconstitutional... They can't have the day off now can they???
