HB758 may come to a vote!

HB 758 may be coming up for a vote soon, like tomorrow. It's the bill calling for background checks on private sales between individuals. The sponsor, Harry Osterman has amended the bill today to make it mandatory that all gun sales and transfers take place at an FFL's place of business.

Obviously, this bill would only affect law abiding citizens making legal transfers of handguns. The gangbangers that it's aimed at won't pay anymore attention to this than they do to the ban on handguns in Chicago that's been in effect for 20+ years.

Call, fax and e-mail your representative tonight or tomorrow and ask them to oppose HB758!! Do it even if your rep is on our side and especially if you have a fence sitter for a rep. If you're saddled with an anti, call and fax several times, and encourage all your friends, and aquaintences to do the same. Get the point across!!!

We can beat this one too, but the Brady bunch has already put out the word to their group. We need to get going on this now!!!!

Thanks,

AB

Students from Taft High School on the Northwest Side are scheduled to travel to Springfield on Thursday.

That is the school my daughter's would have attended had they not gone to private school. Their friend, a neighbor, goes there. I'll have to find out if she's going.

Usually the offices open at 8:00. They almost always have machines so call when you can and leave a messtage if you must.

Most are staffed by 8:30, I believe.

They're all there now, I just talked to each of the offices. Pihos and Bellock are in the same office with the same Secretarty so one call can do both, just mention both names!!!

Made all the calls per post #7. Got through to each first try.

Make those phones ring, people. The Brady's and allies at ICHV have this bill as a high priority, so I suspect they are going to move if the moving seems good.

Got done with my calls from the list above + my rep Rose. Got through to all of them 1st try except Froehlich (took 2 there).

The gal at Coles' office was particulary kind but sorta fast winded. She said "ok I'll add you to THE LIST" lol.

Anyway, whatever.....

Keep the phones riging boys!

House session scheduled to begin at 10 am - if HB758 comes up for debate and vote you can listen/watch at http://www.ilga.gov/house/audvid.asp

House session just moved to "Party Caucus" where legislators meet privately with their own party leaders to discuss strategy - don't know when they will come back in - could be minutes, could be hours . . . stay tuned!

Molly B.

Would anyone care to speculate what this means?

Does the term "Behind closed doors" mean anything!!

They're just strategizing, discussing bills, etc. out of the public view.

Edited to ask: Everybody made their calls????/

Yeah...an ol' Charley Rich song! :frantics:

"The title track from his 1973 album, 'Behind Closed Doors,' became a number one hit early in that year, crossing over into the Top 20 on the pop charts."

Sorry...couldn't resist!

What is there to hide? I guess what I meant was, could this be looked at as a good sign/bad sign?

Common practice. They have lots of bills to look at. We're focused on just a few, but trust me, as much as we'd like it, they're priority is probably not the same as ours. It's just a way of talking things over before they go to the floor for debate and vote.

No good/bad to it.

Bump.

There's still time to make the calls specified in post #7.

Also make sure you remind your own Representative to vote NO on HB758.

My thanks to everyone who has already called.

That's only an increase on the "Rich" right? 250k?

Although on the national scene that was supposedly what HC and BO were for and yet a few weeks ago they voted yes on a non binding resolution that would increase income tax on the rich, them being individuals making 31,600 or couples at 64,000.

They shouldn't raise taxes on the rich, cause i've never been employed by a poor person. + they can't make up their minds what "Rich" is....

Mr. Drylock,

A you know, I am for the little man; the common Americans like you and me.

Rich is anyone self-employed or working for someone else...

Thanks a bunch for your money,

Love,

Rod
