@ Chitownshooterz.. You might want to re word your statement because it is inaccurate. I do not know what shigt you pulled this off of but I live in the south suburbs of Chicago (Cook County) and I can buy, and legally own a lot of what you have listed including the Sub 2000 that is in question. Do your homework before posting misleading information.

@Rebel1CSA; Sorry but my post is absolutely correct. It is right out of the Chicago Municipal Code. Check it out for yourself. Use the link below and follow the instructions:

http://library.amlegal.com/nxt/gateway.dll/Illinois/chicago_il/municipalcodeofchicago?f=templates$fn=default.htm$3.0$vid=amlegal:chicago_il

1. Select Title 8

2. Select Chapter 8-20 Weapons

3. Select 8-20-10 Definitions

4. Read it through

5. Better Idea, read the entire Chapter through

Some good advice. It's a very good idea to be thoroughly familiar with and observe the Chicago and Cook County gun laws. Boasting about owning illegal weapons to strangers or new acquaintances can get a person a visit from the CAGE unit or Sheriff's Office.

As I recall, Cook County home rule municipalities can over-ride county code. The Cook County code would apply to unincorporated areas of the county or to towns/villages that do not adopt other legislation.

Don't take my word for it though. I am not an attorney but I know of Cook County towns that do not abide by the same restrictions as the county code.

7) A semiautomatic version of an automatic handgun .....

according to your link ^ this would make all glock pistols banned because glock makes a full auto version. But how can they ban a pistol with the CCA overriding home rule?

Hello Everyone,

Just wondering if I could legally possess and own a Keltec Sub2000 9mm rifle in Chicago. Is this considered an "assault weapon" since it has a pistol grip? I'm debating whether I want to pick up a shotgun vs. the sub2000 for home defense.

Thanks in advance!

Another option is building an ar15 pistol from a virgin lower and buy 10 round mags. Shotguns are hard to wield in tight spaces and can go through multiple walls. Im not a lawyer but Id rather have to fight a case over the definition of "pistol" vs accidentaly harming someone through a wall. I've lived in Chicago and the rules are crazy. As far as I know there are certain things people never get charged with because they would rather have the laws on the books unchallenged, ie magazine cap, assault weapon ban. Still better to cover yourself by staying within the law or at least in the grey area at the margins. Just know its unlikely you'll ever see any gun again if it's confiscated in a dgu.
