So I am really curious to find out that since I work for a village. Are the buildings that I work out of (town building and storage place). Would that be considered "federal/government "? I know post office, banks, and such but what about the small town's street, water and gas departments? I am even a volunteer emt, volunteer fireman, what happens then.....oh shoot FIRE!!!!! ,gotta go most times I don't even think twice and just head to department. So many regulations that I am still not going to be able to carry and protect myself and family. Sorry for the rant. Any help to clarifying things up would be appreciated.

they are controlled by local government. so make sure you leave it locked up in your car before going to change.

I feel your pain...sort of. I'm a dispatcher...even with HB997, I'd resigned myself to having to have a lockbox in the car, and leaving the gun in there when I get to work because I'm in Chicago and it's way too antigun to allow carry in a building. Still the same with 183. Carry is disallowed in government buildings, but at least it'll be legal to leave it locked up in the parking lot.

I just wanted to apologize to everyone. I finally found the actual HB183 bill and read it. I have to say that none of the 6 places that I work at I won't be able to carry. Myself being the head of the street department, volunteer EMT, volunteer firefighter, security at a local concert venue, an EMT-I at my local hospital, and an auxiliary police officer. Yes even being an aux. officer can not carry because we are (in my area) with homeland security and there is a provision that prohibits it.

This is a similar problem for me at my Fire Dept. According to the law I will be able to lock it up in my vehicle. According to Dept. SOP no firearms are allowed on the property....Gonna have to work on getting the Chief to change that.

I really wished that they would of looked at this carry bill just in a different perspective. It still won't limit the criminals from carrying a gun. Now it gives the criminals a chance to get more guns because our "safe" guns are secured in our vehicle while we are inside working, shopping, or just plain living.

Same here. I think there's a few of us here with the same problem.

I was a dispatcher in the early 80's and my Chief allowed me to have my gun in my briefcase in the dispatch room.

I wonder how a new carry law will affect a county or city that wants allows carry. Can they just not post a sign? Can a jurisdiction give a licensees blanket permission under the current law for places were you have permission?

Vehicles will be easy targets, quality lock boxes will be needed. Keep all the pro gun decals , including Law Enforcement off your vehicles , unless you want them damaged or broken into. Included should be vanity license plates , that make those references also.

1980's much different era....No way any police chief would allow this today!

Does anyone know exactly what Marion did regarding the city workers? I caught a bit of it on the news about they had banned city workers either carrying or storing in the vehicle I think. If that is indeed the case would the safe haven clause over ride this?

Please remember ALL of your concerns AFTER we get CCW. We will then be able to have TODD & CO start correcting the loopholes.

This is one of the better FIRST CCWs laws written. Every state has had to fix omissions constantly.

THANK YOU TODD MOLLY B & CO.

I really believe that after a few loose ends are tidied up I whole heartedly believe that we as muni's should have the same rights just as everyone else. It is unfair to us to take away our rights just because of our chosen careers.
