Tvandermyde Posted July 17, 2009 at 12:32 AM Posted July 17, 2009 at 12:32 AM Ok guys, the Brady PAC has filed their semi-annual report. the good news is they only raised $27,745. Much less than I would have expected. And if you take out the staff types, it is much less than that. The really good nes is that they spent $26,517 which left them with $632 for election activities. Seems they spent $17,500 on some consultant. OK I'll bite, was this a fundraising consultant?? a new lobbyist?? a political guru telling them how to win elections??? I dunno. But it sound that some of the same people running the Brady PAC maybe running our state budget.

Lou Posted July 17, 2009 at 02:56 AM Posted July 17, 2009 at 02:56 AM This kind of confirms my thinking that the antis might be anti-gun but not so much that they'll open their wallets. I just wonder how much will come as a grant from the Joyce Foundation???

cherryriver Posted July 17, 2009 at 12:15 PM Posted July 17, 2009 at 12:15 PM The one that jumped out at me was "Friends of Tom Dart".Tom Dart is the sheriff of Cook County. He is also widely considered to be in the lead to be the next mayor of Chicago. His campaign fund donating to a gun-ban group might be helpful to bring up when his next campaign is underway.

I guess I don't see the point to this thread. Are we going to resort to the type of thuggery that those against Prop 8 in CA are doing? I agree with FF. To me, the salient information was that Brady tried to raise decent money, and failed. Also, another important point is that Chicagoans who support gun control are incestuous, and quite limited in number. That's a good thing ... at this point, writing letters (and certainly mailing them cases) would be entirely counter-productive. I know the cases thing was a joke ... but still, some readers might seriously consider it. High Road, people.
Air Commando Posted July 17, 2009 at 02:27 PM Posted July 17, 2009 at 02:27 PM One thing you can do for the businesses is not do any business with them in the future, losing funds hurts them where it counts.

1957Human Posted July 17, 2009 at 02:51 PM Posted July 17, 2009 at 02:51 PM What I find interesting is registered lobbyists, like All-Circo (a Democratic group), passing money to other lobbyists. Todd, you think they do that on behalf of clients (perhaps politicians) who won't or can't openly do so themselves, for the usual reasons? Or are they just "true believers" in the cause?
Chiburbian Posted July 17, 2009 at 04:46 PM Posted July 17, 2009 at 04:46 PM Just to be clear, I wasn't advocating actually following through with sending them letters of any kind. I was just pondering how those diners would feel if they learned how thier money was wasted.
Tvandermyde Posted July 17, 2009 at 05:26 PM Author Posted July 17, 2009 at 05:26 PM why groups contrubute that are lobbyinf firms is usually becuase a freind of the firm asked or they wanted to be on record. As individuals we will be prohibited from contributing if the gov signs the new campaign finance law. I posted the info to show the failure of what they tried to do. And that we should not rest on our haunches as we move into this election cycle in two weeks. Everyone is all scared about the brady campaign and what they can do. they can only fear monger those uniformed people, and legislators who shoose to allow themselves to be bullied. We caught a break in this as we are not facing a six figured jaugernaut right now. not saying they can't raise the money, but for a first roll out, this was pretty poor. but lets not let our guard down. first brigade meeting is scheduled for the 1st of aug. But, I would like to have some other meetings before that. who is available the night of the 22nd or on the 25th? I may move this to a new thread just becuase. I'm working on a southern IL meeting next month as I will be traveling down there. And trying to do another sit down in springfield

Don Gwinn Posted July 24, 2009 at 05:44 PM Posted July 24, 2009 at 05:44 PM More fallout from this report: Chicago anti-gun donor family raises cash for Obama despite sub-prime past Highlights:Remember the New World Ventures company that donated $1000?And ______ noted that they're a venture capital group investing for the Pritzker family?Penny Pritzker is Obama's Campaign Fund-Raising ChairShe helped him raise record amounts--almost $800 million for the campaign and inauguration togetherShe almost became Commerce Secretary, but . . . . . . she would have had a rough confirmation because she and her family personify all the "greed" and "stupidity" that Obama's been railing against for the last yearThey took over a failed S&L in 1988, pumped it for $845 million in federal incentives and questionable dividends, then had it seized by the feds in 2001They agreed to pay back $460 million to the feds, but NOTHING to the depositors who lost their life savingsThey were given 15 YEARS to pay back the $460 million (their net worth is around $15 BILLION) and the FDIC offered them $500 million from its lawsuit against the accounting firm they usedYesterday, Obama spent the evening raising money in Chicago with Penny Pritzker again. A lot of that is tangential to gun control, at best, but it's all interesting reading.
Don Gwinn Posted July 24, 2009 at 05:50 PM Posted July 24, 2009 at 05:50 PM TVan, where did you find the report? If it's PDF we can put it up as a Scribd document.
