Charles Nichols Posted October 3, 2019 at 04:34 AM Posted October 3, 2019 at 04:34 AM On a related note, Cheeseman was rescheduled to the conference of October 18, 2018. It was originally scheduled for the conference of October 1st. Ciolek, also a handgun carry case out of New Jersey has not been rescheduled. Ciolek was scheduled for the conference of October 1st. Rogers v. Grewal (yes, another New Jersey handgun carry case) was held over from last term. It was heard in the May 23, 2019, conference. There has been no change in the docket schedule since then. I will leave the reading of the tea leaves to others lest I be accused of overstating anything.
JTHunter Posted October 5, 2019 at 02:22 AM Posted October 5, 2019 at 02:22 AM Thanks for keeping us in the loop Mr. Nichols.
press1280 Posted October 21, 2019 at 11:03 PM Posted October 21, 2019 at 11:03 PM As I thought (not only with this case but all others worth anything), Cheeseman did not get on the denied list and wasn't relisted as of yet. It'll likely join the long list of other cases on ice at scotus.
Euler Posted October 21, 2019 at 11:21 PM Author Posted October 21, 2019 at 11:21 PM Cheeseman was on the agenda for conference last Friday. There are a bunch of may-issue carry cases in the queue. I think they'll probably pick the best one in light of whatever decision they make in the NYSRPA case (or send them back to circuit court with instructions). There are a bunch of illegal handgun possession cases getting kicked back to lower courts with instructions to reconsider in light of Rehaif v. United States.
