Binocular recommendation?

I have cheap pocket binoculars that don't work too well.  Was trying to see a wasp nest on my chimney about 30 ft up and just could not focus or see clearly.  I would likely use these at the range, for bird watching etc.  Looking for something better quality and possibly with zoom.  Any brands you like?  Any magnification you prefer?  Things to stay away from?  Can you recommend a place to purchase?

I have Vortex 10x42 binoculars. I bought the crossfire and then the diamondback models. 

 

Depends on what your budget is, but I'm happy with both models.  I think the Vortex Diamondback is a little better than the crossfire but both work great.

I like Vortex for the price point. I have both Vortex riflescopes and binoculars with no complaints. However, for just a little more coin my Kowa binoculars blow the Vortex out of the water with clarity and quality. Call this place and they will help you tremendously. I like my Nikon Acculon  10X50. I think I paid 120. for them.

I ended up getting a set of Vortex Crossfire HD 10x42 on sale at Cabela's.  They seem to be nice and much better than the pocket set i had here.  Thanks for the recommendations.
