Tvandermyde Posted August 24, 2011 at 05:53 PM Posted August 24, 2011 at 05:53 PM The anti-gun guys look like they are trying to get a crowd for the town hall meeting. Look over the list of towns in Rep. Ford's district and see if you have any friends that would be willing to come out and support us. Friends: Last Spring, during the vote on HB 148,which would have allowed for the carrying of concealed loaded handguns in public places, Rep. LaShawn Ford was the only present vote on the bill. Rep. Ford will be hosting a town hall meeting on Wednesday,August 31st on this important topic. He has invited speakers on both sides of the issue for this public discussion on CCW. I've included a list of towns in the 8th District as well as the link to the meeting flyer. If you or anyone you know lives in the district, I hope you will please make your voice heard on the issue. Even if you don't live in the district, please attend and show your commitment to peace and safety in our communities What: Rep. wazzle Posted August 24, 2011 at 06:15 PM Posted August 24, 2011 at 06:15 PM I had a long phone conversation with Rep Ford after that vote. I ended up on his email list and I emailed him with a request for a conversation and he agreed. He isn't exactly anti gun from what I gathered but says he has constituents that both say yes and no equally. He said he had problems with some of the wording on HB148 but wouldn't get into detail with me without having the bill in front of him. His present vote was due to the way the people in his district are split on this. One of the issues he did mention was he thought there should be more training.
drdoom Posted August 24, 2011 at 07:39 PM Posted August 24, 2011 at 07:39 PM As if there was not ENOUGH training worded into the bill already (which I believe was something like 40 hrs total!)

I spoke to Colleen and Rep Ford at 3:00 pm today, there was coverage on CBS this morning as per Mr Ford so we may see some tonight as well. Colleen said she would update us when it is over.Brian

BTW how many hours of fire arm training does a police officer get? 40hrs for the officer's down here Training that a police officer gets is irrelevant to the discussion of CCW training. Holders of CCW licenses do NOT have arresting powers, they do not put themselves into harms way, they do not enter volatile situations and they do not get paid to carry a gun and protect others. All a CCW license holder wants to do is protect those he loves and himself from attacks and threats of harm. He/She doesn't need 40 hours of training to do that. Many states require no training what so ever. Of those that do require a certain number of hours in training, the average is probably 4-5 hours. Many simply list the subjects to be covered, then require "sufficient time to cover the subject matter". Do not compare LEO training to civilian training for a CCW license. They are completely different animals. Oh, and drdoom, where in the world do you see that in the bill?? AB
