I might have seen that guy since we were there on the day he reports being there. We have not received our CFPs yet, but my wife was told we'd have them next week.

By the way, the permit is literally the upper 3rd of the 8.5x11 form with your passport photo glued to it. No way to forge those! :)

I recieved it last week. You're right it is just the top of the app. like the old registrations were. Must've gotten lucky, I was prepared for a wait. I'm going to laminate it, so it lasts the three years or at least until the ordinance is overturned :) .Submitted the registrations early this week, we'll see what happens.

I'm just going to mail my registrations forms in, I think. Save me a trip downtown. 2 will be rejected for sure, but I'm submitting them anyway, cuz that's how I roll.

Is the $15 fee refundable? I can't recall.

one week turn-around for me.

Very cool. Next Monday is day 32 on my FOID application. Will be walking over to the office of my state senator that morning (4 blocks away).

I work from home, so I should be able to apply for CFP, the day after I get FOID.

So....for my hundo to Hizzonner I don't even get a plastic ID card like my Drivers License, FOID and Utah Carry Permit?

I get a hunk of cardboard?

Sheesh!

right, that YOU essentially created!

I'm turning in 9 apps, 7 renewals today.....

I've been keeping a running total of time and costs.

I uploaded the PDF to pdffiller.com and inserted the appropriate text. Then saved and copied, thereafter not having to edit the common fields again. Filled probably 3 dozen forms that way. Now all I have to do is print each PDF double sided and mail them in.

The PDFs I can save for posterity and to use as basis for new registrations. Also have them in case rumors that we have to re-register in 3 years are true.

Well, as I expected, no FOID on Saturday. I just placed a call to the office of my state senator, and made a request with the district manager to look into it. He was very nice, and I expect to hear back from him later today.

I'm curious, what kind of firearms are you guys registering. WIth that long list of prhibited/unsafe firearms I'm curious which ones they allow.

I registered a S&W M&P 45 and my wife registered a S&W M&P 9mm (with 10 round magazines).

They haven't approved or denied either registration yet.

two semi auto pistols.

one pump shotty.

one o/u

four semi auto shotties.

I am registering a .50 cal muzzleloader. I was old it was no problem, even though .50 cal is declared icky bad by hizzoner.

I dont own one yet, however though the banned list is long numerically, 95% of the ones on the list are "no-name" guns.

Only 2 I see that are questionable are Walther P22 and Sig Sauer Mosquito (which I have heard is legitimately a dangerous gun)

The bigger issue for me is the 12 round magazine limit. Most magazines seem to be either 10 rounds or 16+ rounds.

Most manufacturers make 10 round mags for their guns that normally ship with a standard capacity over 10 for sale in NY and CA. Now add Chicago to that list.

My Wife's M&P 9mm comes standard with a 17rd magazine. We were able to buy 10rd magazine for use in Chicago.

My handgun registrations came in today. Several name brand quality weapons. Like others have stated here, I'm really peeved about the money and time for exercising what is a fundamental right. On the other hand I now join the majority of U.S. citizens who can legally own handguns in their home no matter what the politicians of Chicago may wish or think or how much crap they spew, this is my RIGHT and I choose to exercise it. As I write this one of my pistols is on my lamp table, no longer when friends come over will I automatically run and hide it, (of course I am very safety conscious, especially around children). It is here, it is mine, don't like it, too bad. I will go to the range tomorrow and carry my pistols in pistol rugs, casually and openly to the car, not worried about a nosy neighbor or a cruising squad. As sappy as this sounds, this is my symbol of democracy that I believe is entirely what the founding fathers had in mind.

Hopefully lawsuits in the works strike down most of this ordinance and eventually legal carry comes to Illinois, in the meantime this is definately a step in the right direction. Even with the numerous roadblocks. With every registration, gun ownership among law abiding citizens will become more of an accepted norm and maybe become in Chicago the non-issue that it is in the majority of the country. Well anyway this is my long winded self indulgent rant of the week

You know, I was just looking at the ordinance again, and the lack of a proper ID card is actually a big deal.

Ordinance reads anyone with ammo/firearm must have "a valid CFP and registration certificate for a firearm of the same gauge or and registration certificate in his possession when he is not in his home"

So now, when I go to a range, I need to have the the yellow paper, and the gun registration with me. That blows.

Why couldn't it just be something I could stick in my wallet?

Got a call back from the senators office. My application has cleared the process, and is being submitted to the ID manufacturer by Wednesday. It should be in my hands a week after that.

I got my FOID in the mail today. Here is my personal timeline, for future people doing searches.

July 13th - Mailed in FOID application

July 16th - IL State Police deposit my check (proof of when they had the application)

August 14th - 30 days

August 16th - Called state senator's office on Monday morning

August 18th - ID manufactured

August 21st - Received FOID in mail

Thanks to all the various posters who suggested calling the senator on day 31.

I will be applying for the CFP Monday.

A damn shame, isn't it, when the very people who are SWORN to uphold the law, fail to do it, and YOU have to go to your state senator for action.

A damn shame!

The hysterical part is that I am represented by Senator Cullerton, who is one of the strongest proponents of gun regulation

;)
