drdoom Posted February 5, 2010 at 05:32 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 05:32 PM Looking ahead to November elections, what does anyone think about the chances Brady has against Governor Quinn? I was hearing on WLS that the Dem's want him to win because he be easier to beat than say Dillard. I've been thinking about this for a while, but since Brady represents downstate, Quinn would loose the majority of the southern Illinoisian vote. So then you're looking at the race being determined by the North Eastern counties. This begs the question, will the crack heads in Crook county go for Brady in the primary? I've been thinking that so long as it's Quinn, nobody is gonna want to vote him in for another term (considering how he almost sold the state out to Obama and his handling of the state economy). Anyone think Brady has a better chance than Dillard (facing off Quinn in the primary). There are various aspects I like about Brady, his commitment to pushing through CCW legislation, vetoing the Chicagoan marxist gun-control schemes and overall being far more conservative.
junglebob Posted February 5, 2010 at 06:20 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 06:20 PM I hope Cohen stays in the race for Lt. Governor, that should help.
gravyboy77 Posted February 5, 2010 at 06:51 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 06:51 PM I have also been hearing that the Dems are keeping their fingers crossed that Brady wins. The problem up here with the Democratic voters is that they don't give a crap about the merits of the candidates they only care about who has a (D) next to their name. After seeing the Democrats reaction hoping that Brady wins, i'm hoping that Dillard pulls this off. The Dems know that Brady will be easier to beat than Dillard.
Don Gwinn Posted February 5, 2010 at 07:12 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 07:12 PM Now is the time for some of Tom Cross's astroturf. A campaign to support Cohen and encourage him to stay in the race is just the thing. I do think Dillard would do better statewide than Brady, but that in no way means Brady can't win. The overall political climate is not great for Democrats, and it's getting worse.
cherryriver Posted February 5, 2010 at 08:16 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 08:16 PM My take on this situation is more along the lines of, "Can Quinn keep from losing to whomever?" All the opposition has to say when Halloween's coming up is: "Early release! Early release!"I can't buy Quinn being what the media likes to call a "populist". More like "putzulist".
Buzzard Posted February 5, 2010 at 08:59 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 08:59 PM I wonder if Obama will be coming home to campaign for the dems??
Don Gwinn Posted February 5, 2010 at 09:21 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 09:21 PM I believe I heard Giannoulias on Wednesday say that he would definitely have Obama here to campaign for him, but don't quote me on that. I don't see why he wouldn't.Obama has lost some of his sparkle, but he's not a liability in Chicago and he's even better with the "base" Giannoulias needs. Besides, the day after the Scott Brown election I thought this through and decided that I expected the Massachusetts "pivot" to result in upstarts in Illinois being squashed immediately with overwhelming force. Democrats in Illinois should now be determined not to "be Coakley." They will get take no one lightly, they will take nothing for granted. You won't catch Giannoulias saying anything about the Cubs, Sox or Cardinals unless he's sure of his ground, and if Kirk is shaking hands outside Soldier Field next fall, Giannoulias won't sniff out something about how people must be crazy to think he'd lower himself to stand out there in the heat and shake hands with commoners. No disrespect to Scott Brown, because he ran a really excellent campaign, but Coakley really coasted and I don't think any Democrats in Illinois will do anyone that favor.
cherryriver Posted February 6, 2010 at 12:03 AM Posted February 6, 2010 at 12:03 AM Don, you're right, but...The Dems put Alexi Giannoulias up against Mark Kirk. That all by itself constitutes "coasting", to my mind.
TyGuy Posted February 6, 2010 at 12:15 AM Posted February 6, 2010 at 12:15 AM I thought Kirk and Giannoulias were the same person. Mark Giannoulias or Alexi Kirk. Any chance of a real choice this Nov. for Senate?
cherryriver Posted February 6, 2010 at 12:25 AM Posted February 6, 2010 at 12:25 AM The choice between Kirk and Giannoulias on the subject of gun rights is of a modest degree, I agree. And here at IllinoisCarry, that is certainly the topic of high importance. But on many, many other topics, there are huge differences. You may or may not like Kirk's record on those, such as budget conservatism, where Kirk is, by Illinois standards, pretty good or better, or support for the US military, on which he is very strong. But in the areas of corruption and ties to the Machine, Outfit, and Big Labor, Kirk is vastly better.Kirk is so much cleaner than Daley's guy it's simply no contest.
